2 Functional specifications
The PROBA 4 Central Alarm Unit is an alarm collection unit.
The controller can be programmed with the addresses of the controllers that make their error codes
available through modbus TCP/IP. Furthermore can alfanet controllers suitable for modbus be
monitored.
2.1 Installation.
On the connection diagram of the Central Alarm Unit is shown how the RS485, Ethernet,
power supply and relays must be connected.
After connection the Central Alarm Unit to the supply, first a seft-test function is started.
The alarm unit has to be configured by fully qualified personel.
VDH Products BV is not responsible for any damage cause by incorrect configuration of
the unit.
Consult your network administrator before installing the device.
2.2 Control.
Using the display and the keyboard below, the unit can be setup.
The on/off key can be used to switch te unit on or off.
When switched off no controllers are monitored. Therefore no alarms are generated.
To switch the unit on or off an access code has to be entered.

The parameter menu is selected by pressing the menu key. After inputting a valid access
code: the first menu ‘network’ is shown.
Select the desired menu with the up or down keys. Press set to enter the menu. Next the
value can be selected using the up or down keys.
To modify the value set has to be pressed once more. To alter a IP address you have to
select the correct number before it can be changed with the up or down keys.
The menu key will always take you a step back until you are in the status screen again.
The parameters are subdivided into four groups

2.4 Configuring the network settings
A second way to change the network settings is by using the program vdh_conf. If you
want to install it, run the setup.exe program in the vdh_conf folder on the Alfanet
installation CD.
Start the program and press the `Scan' button to search the network for connected
interfaces. Make sure that the controllers are connected to the same network as the PC.
Use a standard straight-through or cross-over Ethernet cable, depending on how the
interface has been connected. Use a straight-through cable if the interface is connected
to a switch and a cross-over cable if the interface is connected directly to the PC.
After the interface has been found, you have to select it in the selection list, after which
you can change the network settings. Enter the password in the password field and press
the `Set' button to send the settings to the interface. The default password is admin.
You can also change the password by entering a new password in the `New Password'
field and confirming it again in the `Confirm New' field. Press 'Change password' to
change the password.
IMPORTANT:
** Only select the DHCP setting if there is a DHCP server.
** Consult your network administrator for the correct settings.
2.5 Time synchronisation
After the software has been installed, the internal clock of the interface has to be set to
the correct time. To set the right time, Alfanet must be started up. Then go to the control
screen of the Alfanet program (second icon from the left) and click `Sync time' on the
`Panels' tab. The clock now is synchronised with the time of the PC used for
synchronisation.
The time can also be synchronized automatically. Enter the address of a NTP server
(internet time server) in het network menu in. On the proba network the VASP server is
configured as a time server with address 192.168.250.250.
2.6 Entering the access code
When entering the access code choose the desired value for the digit with the up or down
keys. Press set to enter the next digit. When four correct digits are entered the chosen
action is executed. When a incorrect value is entered the code ‘0000' is redisplayed and
you can try again.

3Operation of relay outputs
The Central Alarm Unit has two relays. All terminals on the connection clamps of both relays are
available.
Relais 1 The alert relay is held closed in the idle state and will drop if any of the connected
panels on the network has generated an alert message.
Relais 2 Pulse relay, when a new alarm occurs the relay is activated for five seconds. For
instance an alarm dialer can be connected.
