some expansion and/or contraction noises during the
startuporcooldowncycle.Similarnoisesarefoundwith
yourfurnaceheatexchangerorcarengine.
ItisnotunusualforyourVermontCastingsGroupFire-
placesgasreplacetogiveoffsomeodorthersttimeit
isburned.Thisisduetothecuringofthepaintandany
undetectedoilusedinthemanufacturingprocess.
Itisrecommendedthatyouburnyourreplaceforatleast
ten(10)continuoushoursthersttimeyouuseit.

General Information
Thisgasapplianceshouldbeinstalledbyaqualiedin-
staller in accordance with local building codes and with
current CSA-B149.1 Installation codes for Gas Burning
AppliancesandEquipment.
FORU.S.AInstallationsfollowlocalcodesand/orthecur-
rentNational Fuel Gas Code. ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54.
In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, all gas ttings
andinstallationofthisheatershallonlybedonebyali-
censedgastterorlicensedplumber.
FOR SAFE INSTALLATION AND OPERATION PLEASE
NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. This appliance gives off high temperatures and should be
locatedoutofhightrafcareasandawayfromfurniture.
2. Childrenandadultsshouldbealertedtothehazardsofthe
highsurfacetemperaturesofthisapplianceandshouldstay
awaytoavoidburnsorignitionofclothing.
3. Childrenshouldbecarefullysupervisedwhentheyareinthe
sameroomasyourappliance.
4. Undernocircumstancesshouldthisappliancebemodied.
Partshavingtoberemovedforservicingshouldbereplaced
priortooperatingthisapplianceagain.
5. Installationandanyrepairstothisapplianceshouldbecar-
riedoutbyaqualiedserviceperson.Aprofessionalservice
personshouldbecontactedtoinspectthisapplianceannually.
Makeitapracticetohaveallofyourgasapplianceschecked
annually. More frequent cleaning may be required due to
excesslintanddustfromcarpeting,beddingmaterial,etc.
6. Controlcompartments,burnersandairpassagesinthisap-
plianceshouldbekeptcleanandfreeofdustandlint.Make
surethatthegasvalveandpilotlightareturnedoffbefore
youattempttocleanthisunit.
7. Keeptheareaaround your appliance clear of combustible
materials,gasolineandotherammablevapor andliquids.
Thisapplianceshouldnotbeusedasadryingrackforcloth-
ing,norshouldChristmasstockingsordecorationsbehung
intheareaofit.
8. Undernocircumstancesshouldanysolidfuels(wood,coal,
paperorcardboardetc.)beusedinthisappliance.
9. Theowofcombustionandventilationairmustnotbeob-
structedinanyway.
10.Whethertheapplianceisinstalleddirectlyoncarpeting,vinyl
tileoranycombustiblematerialotherthanwood,thisappliance
mustbeinstalledonametalorwoodpanelextendingthefull
widthanddepthoftheappliance.
11.Thisappliancerequiresadequateventilationandcombustion
airtooperateproperly.
12.Donotusethisapplianceifanyparthasbeenunderwater.
Immediatelycallaqualiedservicetechniciantoinspectthe
applianceandtoreplaceanypartofthecontrolsystemorgas
controlthathasbeenunderwater.
13. Inspect the burner before each use of the appliance. The
burner must be replaced prior to operation if there is evi-
dencetheburnerisdamaged.Useonlyburnerspeciedby
manufacturer.
LP-cylinderenclosures,ifprovidedbytheconsumermustconform
tothedesignparametersasdetailedbelow.
Enclosures for LP-Gas Supply Systems
Enclosures for LP-gas supply cylinders shall be ventilated by
openingsatthelevelofthecylindervalveandatoorlevel.The
effectivenessoftheopening(s)forpurposesofventilationshall
bedeterminedwiththeLP-gassupplycylinder(s)inplace.This
shallbeaccomplishedbyoneofthefollowing:
a. Onesideoftheenclosureshallbecompletelyopen;or
b. Foranenclosurehavingfoursides,atopandabottom:
1. Atleasttwoventilationopeningsatcylindervalvelevelshall
beprovidedinthesidewall,equallysized,spacedat180
degrees(3.14rad),andunobstructed.Eachopeningshall
haveatotalfreeareaofnotlessthan1/2squareinchper
pound(3.2sq.cm/kg)ofstoredfuelcapacityandnotless
thanatotalfreeareaof10squareinches(64.5sq.cm).
2. Ventilationopening(s)shallbeprovidedatoorleveland
shallhaveatotalfreeareaofnotlessthan1/2squareinch
perpound(3.2sq.cm/kg)ofstoredfuelcapacityandnot
lessthanatotalfreeareaof10squareinches(64.5sq.cm).
Ifventilationopeningsatoorlevelareinasideall,there
shallbeatleasttwoopenings.Thebottomoftheopenings
shallbeatoorlevelandtheupperedgenomorethan5
inches(127mm)abovetheoor.Theopeningsshallbe
equallysized,spacedat180degrees(3.14rad)andun-
obstructed.
3. Everyopeningshallhaveminimumdimensions soasto
permittheentranceofa1/8inch(3.2mm)diameterrod.
Cylindervalvesshallbereadilyaccessibleforhandoperation.
Adoorontheenclosuretogainaccesstothecylindervalvesis
acceptable,provideditisnon-lockingandcanbeopenedwithout
theuseoftools.
Thereshallbeaminimumclearanceof2inches(51mm)be-
tweenthelowersurfaceoftheooroftheLP-gassupplycylinder
enclosureandtheground.
Thedesign oftheapplianceshallbe suchthat(1)theLP-gas
supplycylinder(s)canbeconnected,disconnectedandthecon-
nectionsinspectedandtestedoutsidethecylinderenclosure;and
(2)thoseconnectionswhichcouldbedisturbedwheninstalling
the cylinder(s) in the enclosure can be leak tested inside the
enclosure.
Description
TheODGSRSeriesareradiantreplaces.Donotburnwoodor
othermaterialsintheseappliances.Eachmodelisavailablewith
standingpilotforusewithNaturalorPropanegasunits.
Reporttoyourdealeranypartsdamagedinshipment.
Adequate combustion and ventilation air must be provided.
Theowof combustionandventilationair MUSTNOT beob-
structed.
Provide adequate clearances around the air opening into the
combustionchamber;andadequateaccessibilityclearancefor
servicingandproperoperation.NEVERobstructthefrontopen-
ingoftheappliance.
This replace is not designed to be water tight. There-
fore, when installing this unit against an exterior wall,
the wall must be nished before setting unit in place.

Thisoutdoorreplacewillshedmoderateamountsofwa-
ter, but is not waterproof. Water and condensing water
vapormayenterthechaseundercertainconditions.
Thereplace willnot perform as an exterior wall. Mois-
turepenetrationmustbeconsideredforconstructionthat
placesthereplaceinstructurewallsoronmoisturesen-
sitivesurfaces.
When installed on exterior walls: Vermont Castings
Group recommends the replace chase be constructed
outsidethestructure'sweatherenvelope.Wheretheplat-
formmeetsthewall,useaashingdetailsimilartothat
required for attached decks. Chase platforms, including
hearthsshouldslopeawayfromthestructureat1/4inper
foot.Thereplacecanbeshimmedlevel.
When installed on surfaces where water may collect or
causedamage:VermontCastingsGrouprecommendsa
slopeof1/8into1/4inperfoottowardsthedrainportsug-
gested.Thereplacecanbeshimmedlevel.
Hearthsshouldslopeawayfromthefrontofthereplace
andchaseat1/8into1/4inperfoot.Metalsafetystrips
mustbeontopofanycombustiblehearthmaterialsused
formoisturemanagement.
