AN INTRODUCTION TO
YOUR VERTEX M60 AQUALION
Your new Vertex Dive Watch is the latest in Vertex’s
historical lineage of timepieces and will no doubt
accompany you through all of life’s adventures, both
on land and off it.
Although this model boasts state of the art features
throughout, it is remarkable that the basic architecture
of the mechanical wristwatch has remained unchanged
for over a century, since the rst Vertex timepiece was
created in 1912.

As is our custom, and unlike a quartz watch, your
Vertex doesn’t rely on a battery for its energy source.
Instead, the power that drives the hands around the
dial is generated by the unwinding of a tightly coiled
at spring meshed with a gear train of toothed wheels,
fueling the escapement.
The escapement consists of a wheel which is caught and
released intermittently by a pivoting lever – responsible
for the telltale “tick” – and is presided over by a delicate
spiral, aptly known as the hairspring.
Furthermore, the escapement is responsible for the
regulation of the energy release from the mainspring
and feeds this power back through the gear train, thus
driving the hands of the watch to count out the seconds,
minutes, and hours with military precision.
We congratulate you on joining the intimate circle
of individuals able to call themselves owners of true,
internationally certied, dive watches. Just as Vertex
predecessors furnished the British Military in both
World Wars, it is our honour to decorate the wrists of
decerning gentleman and ladies across the generations,
now in new and exciting environments.

KEY FEATURES OF YOUR
VERTEX DIVE WATCH
Waterproof to 600 meters or 60 BAR
The BAR measurement is used to indicate how well a
watch is sealed against the ingress of water, measured
in units of pressure (BAR). Testing of dive watches
consider factors such as aging of seals, the properties
of water and seawater, rapidly changing water pressure
and temperature as well as dynamic mechanical
stresses encountered by the watch. Each model has
been rigorously tested to ensure optimal functioning
even at great depths. Please see further information
and guidance on best practices in the Water-Resistance
section of your manual.
ISO 6245
The Swiss rated ISO certication involves stringent
testing of many elements. The Control Condensation
Test submerges the watch under water for two days
before it is placed on a heat plate brought up to just over
100 degrees and nally tested with a drop of water on
the crystal for one minute to ensure no condensation
forms. The Water Resistance at Overpressure Test
subjects every model – not just a sampling - to 25%
more depth pressure than the rated depth and the
Resistance to Salt Water ensures no oxidation occurs
and all functioning remains intact. The Shock Resistance
Test simulates the shock of a fall from 1 meter onto a
hardwood oor like that of the deck of a boat whilst
the Magnetic Field Impact test ensures the watch can
maintain normal accuracy after exposure to a magnetic
eld of 4,800 amperes travelling along three different
axes for 1 minute each. Finally the External Forces Test
utilises outside force of 200 newtons in each direction
to ensure the spring bars are able to withstand any
sharp outcropping that may slip under your wristband
whilst diving.

Swiss Chronically Certied (C.O.S.C)
Only the highest quality timepieces pass the exacting
standards required to receive this distinction. Issued
by the Controle Ofciel Suisse des Chronometres
(C.O.S.C), a neutral and non-prot Swiss organisation,
the certication involves rigorous testing of the watch’s
internal timekeeping components with only 6% of the
market receiving this esteemed accreditation.
Selitta SW 3600 Movement
The Vertex Dive Watch is based on a Selitta SW 3600
manual wind mechanical movement with a unique main
rotor bearing system, taken from the rotor pattern
Vertex has used for over 100 years, operating at 28’800
vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with 25 jewels. The watch
has hacking movement enabled to ensure the most
accurate timekeeping through the hack or stop-seconds
function via simple use of the crown.
Power Reserve 42 Hours
The power reserve indicates the amount of time
required for a fully wound watch to unwind when not
worn. The Vertex Dive Watch boasts an impressive
power reserve of 42 hours allowing it to run for that
duration on a full wind.
The Historical Vertex AquaLion
The back of your new Vertex Dive Watch features a
tribute to the timepiece’s history. The Vertex AquaLion
is the same emblem used by Vertex founder, Claude
Lyons – great grandfather of current Director, Don
Cochrane – on his rst series of Dreadnaught Watches.
The “FN” found in both the serial number and on each
movement of the watch pays further tribute, standing
for “Fear Nothing” it references the natural translation
of the original “Dreadnaught” name.

VERTEX DIVE WATCH
MANAGEMENT
The Technical Renements
Your Vertex Dive Watch indicates the time in hours,
minutes, and seconds, accompanied by the date. The
internal rotating bezel, which for safety reasons can only
be turned anticlockwise, reads off the dive time. Your
Dive Watch is water-resistant to 60 BAR and protected
by a sapphire glass of hardness grade 9 on Mohs’ scale.
The power reserve allows for mechanical movement
with automatic winding to serve up to 42 hours when
fully wound. The following sections, and important
operating instructions, will ensure that your exceptional
new timepiece continues to operate faultlessly as it
ventures through life with you.

Normal Positioning
The assembly of your Vertex Dive Watch includes a
multi-functional, screw-in crown. To prevent accidental
adjustment of the time or date one must ensure the
crown is screwed into its standard position, indicated
above as “X” which also serves as a double seal, a
nal layer of protection to ensure water doesn’t seep
into the case. To utilize the functionality of the crown,
simply release it by unscrewing to the left allowing it to
automatically adopt the winding position “0”. To reverse
this action, depress the crown to position “X” whilst
simultaneously turning it to the right which will ensure
it is screwed rmly into place and secure once more.

Winding Position
By putting the crown into its winding position “0”
you can wind the automatic movement manually. To
start the movement simply turn the crown for a few
revolutions however maximum accuracy is ensured
by turning the crown through around 20 revolutions.
Please note, the crown must be returned to position
“X” when wearing the watch.
Date Setting
For the months of the year with fewer than 31 days,
the rst day of the following month will need to be set
manually. To do so simply release the screwed in crown
and move it out to position “1” at which point you will
be able to set the date by turning the crown to the left
(direct advance). Please note the rapid advance function
should not be utilized between 8pm and 2am as the
movement will automatically advance the date within
this period.
Time Setting
The time on your watch can be adjusted by pulling
the crown out to position “2” which will stop the
movement. To make use of the movement hacking
functionality and set the time accurately to the second,
stop the movement as the second hand passes 60.
Next, move the minute hand a few minute strokes past
the time to be set. From there position the minute hand
by moving it gently backwards until the correct minute
stroke is directly below it. This method ensures that
the minute hand starts moving as soon as you restart
the movement. By pushing the crown to position “0”
you will then start the second hand. When adjusting
the time be aware of the date change, which occurs at
12 midnight. If the change has occurred at 12 noon the
hands must be moved forward by 12 hours.

Marking the Start of a Dive using the Bren Bezel
Please note if you are planning to use your Vertex
watch as a means of timing your dives, you should
regularly have the water resistance checked and hold a
certication as an open water diver. The rotating bezel
is used to time dives and takes its design inspiration
from the rear sight adjuster of a Bren Gun, the same
model used by British Military in World War 2. To mark
the start of a dive, align the triangle on the rotating
bezel with the minute hand by turning the external
rotating bezel. The chosen point in time, perhaps when
entering the water at the start of a dive, can be xed
this way. The rotating bezel then allows you to read
off the elapsed time since completing the previous
step, perhaps the duration of the dive. It is for safety
reasons that the internal rotating bezel may only be
rotated in an anticlockwise direction. The rotating bezel
is noted audibly and visibly in one-minute steps and is
also decipherable in the dark thanks to its luminescent
markings.
Information about Magnetic Fields
In recent years the occurrence of strong magnets made
from rare-earth alloys (for example neodymium, iron,
and boron) found in things such as electric motors for
cordless tools, hard disk drives, magnetic hold-downs,
mobile phone cases and jewellery clasps, amongst
many others, means that mechanical watches are
more and more likely to be exposed to such magnets
and thus become magnetized. Although the testing
undertaken by the ISO certication ensures your watch
is resistant to such pressures, overexposure may result
in the need to engage a specialist to begin the process
of demagnetization. For these reasons we recommend
that you keep your watch away from such magnets.
Even watches with a soft-iron case - which provide a
higher standard of protection against magnetic elds,
far exceeding the requirements of DIN standard 8309
– can still be effected by very close proximity to strong
magnets and so we recommend that watches tted
with soft-iron inner cases still be kept away from direct
Vertex Watches M60 Instruction Manual Date.indd 16-17Vertex Watches M60 Instruction Manual Date.indd 16-17 22/11/2021 22:2822/11/2021 22:28

contact with strong magnets. If your timepiece shows a
sudden change in the accuracy of its timekeeping, please
contact a Vertex agent to check for magnetism.
Water-Resistance
The water-resistance of your Vertex Dive Watch is
stated in both units of pressure (BAR) and metres. In
keeping with the highest standards of dive watches, your
new Vertex timepiece has a water-resistance of 60 BAR
or 600 metres. Please note only the BAR measurement
is applicable to dive depth having undergone stringent,
dive specic testing whereas the metre measurement
only indicates water-resistance and not the watch’s
functionality under water. We recommend annual checks
with a Vertex agent, especially if the watch is exposed to
unusually harsh elements. As mentioned in the time and
date setting sections, while underwater the crown should
not be moved or utilized for any purpose whatsoever.
Cleaning the Watch After Diving
To prevent salt accumulating on the case, bracelet, strap
and clasp or buckle, your watch should be rinsed under
running tap water after diving, especially when diving in
seawater.
How Often Should the Dive Watch be Serviced?
Your unique lifestyle and wearing habits as well as the
environment and physical intensity of use all determine
the optimal service cycle of your new Vertex Dive Watch
and the recommended intervals between them. As a
result, we suggest wearing your watch for as long as you
are comfortable with its functionality, which, if treated
with care, should be indenite. You need only consider
a service if you notice an abnormality in its performance
and timekeeping, in such an instance we would be
delighted to return it to optimal functioning with our
standard servicing procedure.
