Chapter 1
Introduction
The information in this manual covers the installation and operation of the VN-306T Digital Video
Transmitter. This system should only be installed by a qualified technician using common hand tools and
approved materials in accordance with national, state and local wiring codes.
The VN-306T is a six-channel digital video server powered by a software platform that enables each VN-
306T to collect local video from its analog inputs and send streamed video over the network to the
ViconNet Global Management and Configuration Stations or Kollector Elite recorders, providing
outstanding flexibility.
Each VN-306T has the ability to be remotely configured from other recorders and workstations on the
network. Changes to server parameters are possible from one or more ViconNet Global Management and
Configuration Stations or Kollector Elite recorders. In addition, it supports full PTZ control, alarm reporting,
picture quality configuration, external sensors, macros, and alarm configuration.
Upon request, the VN-306T distributes its own six channels of collected video to each workstation, or to a
Kollector Elite Server, over a network. Each recorder and workstation is capable of viewing a total of six
simultaneous cameras while supporting archiving, system configuration and the control of pan/tilt/zoom
drives. The VN-306T does not have monitor (video) output capability for local viewing. In addition, it has
no local recording capability, does not support Video Quality levels 1 and 2, and cannot be configured as
a Nucleus or Master Nucleus.
The VN-306T includes full support for NTSC/EIA and PAL/CCIR video cameras; it also supports Internet
connectivity for remote video transmission.
For software information, refer to the VN-306T Software Manual, XX129-3X (where X is a revision number
between 0 and 9).
The VN-306T complies with UL standard 2044, CSA safety standard C22.2, No. 1 and meets
requirements for an FCC Class A computing device.
Vicon recommends the use of line conditioners, voltage regulators and uninterruptible power supply
(UPS) systems in the electrical power service.
