n Do not stand between the tractor and the implement during hitching.
n Watch out for wires, trees, etc., when raising and moving implements. Make sure all persons
are clear of the working area.
n Turning the tractor too tight may cause the implement to ride upon wheels. It can result in
injury or equipment damage.
n Visually inspect the infeed bin and the flywheel before starting. Ensure that the chipper head is
clear, all the bolts are tightened, and the knives do not touch the case and the cutter bar.
n Ensure the PTO shaft does not come apart or bottom out during the normal lifting range.

Operator’s Manual Victory BX510H - Page 14 of 74 - Version 2.0
n Check the chip pile to see if the knives need to be serviced. Long slivers in the chip pile are one
of the best indicators of dull knives.
n It is NOT recommended to operate the woodchipper in temperatures below freezing. Hardened
steel (as used on knives) can become brittle in temperatures below freezing and may result in
breakage.
3.6 More Safety Tips for Safe Operation
n Always keep the guards and chip deflector installed properly while operating the chipper.
n Never leave the chipper running unattended.
n Do not attempt alterations, repairs, or adjustments while the flywheel turns.
n Always disconnect the PTO, stop the tractor’s motor, and put the keys in your pocket before
attempting any alterations, repairs, or adjustments.
n Keep hands, feet, clothing, and other extremities away from the hopper (infeed bin) and any
power-driven parts. Wear snug-fitting clothing to avoid entanglement with moving parts.
n Do not wear loose clothing when working around the woodchipper. Personal injury can occur if
someone or something turns the flywheel over while checking the knives or adjusting the
cutter bar. The flywheel has enough residual energy to remove fingers easily.
n Point the discharge chute away from doorways, sidewalks, or areas obstructing your view.
Point the chute downwind when possible. This will keep the chips from blowing back in the
operator’s direction.
3.6.1 Use Safety Lights and Devices
n Driving on public roads, slow-moving tractors, self-propelled equipment, and towed
implements can create a hazard. They are challenging to see, especially at night.
n Use flashing warning lights and turn signals whenever driving on public roads. Use lights and
devices provided with the implement.
3.6.2 Transport Machinery Safely
n Comply with state and local laws.
n The maximum transport speed for any Victory implement is twenty mph on paved surfaces and
ten mph maximum on an unpaved surface. Do not exceed. Never travel at a speed that does
not allow adequate control of steering and stopping. Rough terrain requires a slower speed.
Traveling at excessive speed on rough terrain that causes violent shaking or bouncing will
damage the attachment point on the implement and/or the tractor. This type of damage is not
covered under warranty.
n Use the following maximum speed - for paved surfaces only:
- 20 mph when weight is less than or equal to the weight of the tractor.
- 10 mph when weight is more than the weight of the tractor.
3.6.3 Keep Riders Off Machinery
n Riders obstruct the operator’s view; they could be struck by foreign objects or thrown from the
machine.
n Never allow children to operate the equipment.

Operator’s Manual Victory BX510H - Page 15 of 74 - Version 2.0
3.6.4 Practice Safe Maintenance
n Always work in a clean and dry environment.
n Lower the implement to the ground, put the tractor in parking mode, turn off the engine and
remove the ignition key before performing maintenance.
3.6.5 Prepare For Emergencies
n Be prepared if a fire starts.
n Keep a first aid kit and fire extinguisher handy.
n Ensure you have telephone numbers for the doctor, ambulance, hospital, and fire department.
3.7 Safety and Health measures when using Hydraulic fluid
Anyone working on installations where hydraulic fluid, lubricating oil, grease, or preservatives are
used must observe the following rules:
n Avoid prolonged contact of the liquid with the skin. In the event of contact, carefully cleanse
the skin. Wear clothing that is free of this liquid. Also, be careful when eating and drinking
during the operation.
n Avoid skin contact with liquids over 60°C or hot machine parts.
n Avoid eye contact; if this happens, cleanse with plenty of water and contact a doctor.
n Storage of the liquid must be following official guidelines; pay attention to fire extinguishers
and emergency exits.
n Permanently remove spilled liquids immediately to prevent them from slipping.
n Hydraulic liquids should not get into the ground or in surface water.
n Avoid high-pressure fluids hazards. Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin
causing severe injury.
n Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic lines.
n Never try to stop leaks from the system by hand.
n Have used liquids removed and recycled by specialized companies.
n Use a piece of paper or cardboard, not body parts, to check for suspected leaks. Wear
protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems.
n If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Always treat any fluid injected into the skin
within a few hours.
3.8 Driveline Safety
Agriculture and forestry are very hazardous occupations. Today’s farmer spends long hours close
to increasingly complex and powerful machinery.
To avoid accidents, everyone from the component supplier and the company that manufacturers
and assembles the machinery to the dealers and ultimately the actual user must keep safety in
mind. The checklist below relates to the driveline of agricultural implements, general safety
literature, and the standards published by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.

Operator’s Manual Victory BX510H - Page 16 of 74 - Version 2.0
3.8.1 Driveline Safety Checklist
Driveline Specifications
The first step toward safe applications is to specify and test the driveline to operate appropriately
under expected field conditions.
n Specify and test the proper size joints and telescoping members based on the power required
by the implement, speed of rotation, joint angles, shock loads, and expected lifetime.
n Test the hitch geometry to prevent the driveline from:
• Extending beyond the recommended maximum length.
• Bottoming out.
• Reaching a position that allows universal joints to lock.
• Exceeding the maximum allowable angle for the constant velocity of the universal joints.
You can find information concerning these parameters in all driveline manufacturer’s catalogs.
n Specify and test telescoping members to allow the lowest possible thrust loads, considering the
expected working conditions.
n Specify and test torque limiters to control excessive shock loads.
n Specify and test overrunning clutches to prevent inertial loads from overpowering the tractor.
Hazard Reduction
The second step in specifying a safe driveline application is to strive to eliminate as many hazards
as possible
n On a driveline with torque limiting or overrunning devices, specify that this device is positioned
at the end of the driveline near the implement.
n To implement connections that require bolts or set screws, select and/or supply hardware that
minimizes protrusions. You can find Information concerning these parameters in all driveline
manufacturer’s catalogs.
n For the tractor's PTO shaft connections, specify a safety type yoke (twist or slide collar) to
minimize protrusions.
n Provide a proper clearance zone for the driveline operation to avoid damaging the shielding
components.
Some common areas of interference are:
n Three-point linkage.
n Extended or eye loop hitch pins.
n Hydraulic hoses.
Guarding
To not effectively eliminated hazards, provide guarding whenever feasible.
The PTO master shield, integral driveline shield, and input connection
shield should offer an interactive guarding system.
n Provide instructions by labels or manuals. Use the implement only with the tractor’s PTO
master shield.

Operator’s Manual Victory BX510H - Page 17 of 74 - Version 2.0
n Specify and test an integral driveline shield with end cones that overlap but do not interfere
with the PTO master shield or implement an input connection shield.
n Provide an input connection shield to interact with the integral driveline shield to guard the
shaft coupling and any torque limiting devices installed on the driveline.
n Check that all routine maintenance of the driveline can be done without removing the shields.
Warnings and Instructions
Provide warnings and instructions for hazards associated with the machine. Provide instructions
for proper maintenance and repair.
n Provide labels on the unit to advise the user of proper hitch dimensions and maximum safe
operating speed.
n Check that proper danger labels are supplied with the driveline concerning these parameters
may be found in all driveline manufacturer’s catalogs.
n Provide easy-to-understand instructions for proper driveline operation, maintenance, and
repair in the operator’s manual.
n Advise against the use of PTO adapters which may defeat the purpose of the tractor’s master
shield and adversely affect the performance of the driveline.
n Advise the user of locations of genuine original equipment spare parts.
You can obtain further information about driveline specifications and safety from your driveline
supplier and the following ASME standards and engineering practices:
n S203 Rear power take-off for agricultural tractors.
