Safety instructions for working on the system
Working on the system
Wear suitable personal protective equipment when
carrying out any work.
Danger
Touching live components can result in life
threatening injuries. After switching off the
ON/OFF switch on the control unit, there are still
live components inside the control unit enclo-
sure.
■Isolate the system from the power supply, e.g.
by removing the separate fuse or by means of
a mains isolator, and check that it is no longer
live.
■Safeguard the system against reconnection.
Danger
Hot surfaces and fluids can lead to burns or
scalding.
■Before maintenance and service work, switch
OFF the appliance and let it cool down.
■Never touch hot surfaces on the boiler, burner,
flue system or pipework.
■Wear suitable personal protective equipment.
!Please note
Electronic assemblies can be damaged by elec-
trostatic discharge.
Prior to commencing any work, touch earthed
objects such as heating or water pipes to dis-
charge static loads.

Auxiliary components, spare and wearing parts
!Please note
Spare and wearing parts that have not been tes-
ted together with the system can compromise its
function. Installing non-authorised components
and making non-approved modifications or con-
versions can compromise safety and may inva-
lidate our warranty.
For replacements, use only original spare parts
supplied or approved by Viessmann.
Safety instructions for operating the system
If you smell flue gas
Danger
Flue gas can lead to life threatening poisoning.
■Shut down the heating system.
■Ventilate the installation site.
■Close doors to living spaces to prevent flue
gases from spreading.
What to do if water escapes from the appliance
Danger
If water escapes from the appliance there is a
risk of electrocution.
Switch OFF the heating system at the external
isolator (e.g. fuse box, domestic distribution
board).
Danger
If water escapes from the appliance there is a
risk of scalding.
Never touch hot heating water.
Condensate
Danger
Contact with condensate can be harmful to
health.
Never let condensate touch your skin or eyes
and do not swallow it.
Flue systems and combustion air
Ensure that flue systems are clear and cannot be
sealed, for instance due to accumulation of conden-
sate or other external causes. Ensure an adequate
supply of combustion air.
Inform system users that subsequent modifications to
the building characteristics are not permissible (e.g.
cable/pipework routing, cladding or partitions).
Danger
Leaking or blocked flue systems, or an inade-
quate supply of combustion air can cause life
threatening poisoning from carbon monoxide in
the flue gas.
Ensure the flue system is in good working order.
Vents for supplying combustion air must be non-
sealable.
Extractors
Operating appliances that exhaust air to the outside
(extractor hoods, extractors, air conditioning units, etc.)
can create negative pressure. If the boiler is operated
at the same time, this can lead to a reverse flow of flue
gas.
Danger
The simultaneous operation of the boiler and
appliances that extract air to the outside can
result in life threatening poisoning due to a
reverse flow of flue gas.
Fit an interlock circuit or take suitable steps to
ensure an adequate supply of combustion air.

Intended use
The appliance is only intended to be installed and
operated in sealed unvented heating systems that
comply with EN 12828, with due attention paid to the
associated installation, service and operating instruc-
tions. It is only designed for the heating of heating
water that is of potable water quality.
Intended use presupposes that a fixed installation in
conjunction with permissible, system-specific compo-
nents has been carried out.
Commercial or industrial usage for a purpose other
than heating the building or DHW shall be deemed
inappropriate.
Any usage beyond this must be approved by the man-
ufacturer in each individual case.

Incorrect usage or operation of the appliance (e.g. the
appliance being operated for longer periods when
open) is prohibited and will result in an exclusion of lia-
bility. Incorrect usage also occurs if the components in
the heating system are modified from their intended
use (e.g. if the flue gas and ventilation air paths are
sealed) or if other fuels than those intended for this
appliance are used.

Aligning the flexible screw conveyor to the pellet store
The pellet supply with flexible screw conveyor can
either be connected to the room discharge with screw
conveyor supply system or to a pellet silo.
The pellet silo or room discharge adaptors as well as
the drive unit of the flexible screw conveyor on the
Vitoligno can be fitted in different positions.

Handling, transport and siting

Danger
Risk of injury due to the boiler being tilted or fall-
ing.
■Only lift the boiler by the lifting eyes.
■The boiler must not be lifted by the transport
rail or the support frame for the casing.
!Please note
Severe jolts can damage the combustion cham-
ber and the hopper components.
Do not subject the boiler to any severe jolts dur-
ing handling and positioning.
!Please note
The boiler can be damaged during transport with
a sack truck.
■Only slide the sack truck under the boiler from
the front.
■Secure the boiler to the sack truck with straps.
■Route the straps through transport eyes A on
the sides.
See following diagram.
Transporting the boiler
■Transport the boiler to the installation location in an
upright position and, if possible, on the pallet.
■The boiler may also be transported using a sack
truck.
■The whole boiler can be raised by lifting eyes B.

1. Undo straps and remove box.
2. Remove the parts lying on the boiler.
3. Remove 2 screws D from the base rails.
4. Lift the boiler from the pallet and position it.
5. Screw in 4 adjustable feet E and position the
boiler with a slight slope (approx. 0.5°) towards the
front.
Note
The slope is required for venting the boiler.
6. Remove and retain the bag containing the boiler
type plate from the combustion chamber door.
Note
The type plate is later affixed to the right hand cas-
ing panel.

Fit the l.h. side panel on the l.h. side of the boiler.
In doing so, insert feed unit cable B sYD and pel-
let sensor cable D sVK through the opening in the
side panel.
Note
Connecting cables B and D are located at the
left rear suspension rail.
2. Push the supplied seal ring onto the screw con-
veyor tube of the connection unit as far as the front
flange.
3. ■Insert the threaded studs with the short thread
into the supply flange on the boiler.
■Push the flat gasket onto the threaded studs.
■Push connection unit onto the threaded studs.
■Position the connection unit parallel to the top of
the boiler (not horizontally as the boiler is posi-
tioned with a slight slope towards the front) and
secure with nuts. Torque: 20 Nm.
4. Only for pellet supply via vacuum module:
Fit the gasket to the rotary lock valve.

Parts for steps 4 and 5 can be found in the box for
the pellet hopper with vacuum module.
5. Secure intermediate flange with 4 screws. Ensure
correct positioning: Incline A on the side facing
away from the boiler.
6. For pellet supply via flexible screw conveyor:
Insert plug B sYD into the connection unit on
motor C.
For pellet supply via vacuum module:
Pull the plug cable from the last cable tie. After fit-
ting the vacuum module below the mounting
bracket, route the plug cable through the cable tie
and plug it into the connection unit. See page 18.

In the delivered condition, the base plate and a bag
containing 3 nuts can be found on top of the boiler.
1. Secure base plate to the boiler with 3 nuts.
2. Align base plate at right angles to the boiler at the
pre-installed adjustable feet.

Remove the protective cap from the pellet sensor
for this purpose.

Setting the power stage on the vacuum module
The vacuum module can be set to 2 power stages. In
the delivered condition, it is preset to the low power
stage. Depending on requirements, it can be converted
to the high power stage simply by swapping plugs A
and B directly on the vacuum module. Select the
power stage in accordance with the following chapter.

After commissioning the system, check the suction
power and change the selected power stage if neces-
sary.
Selecting the appropriate power stage
For use of the low power stage, the following condi-
tions must be met:
■Suction head: max. 2.5 m
■Suction length: max. 15 m
If these dimensions cannot be adhered to, the high
power stage must be used.
The following table is provided as a further guideline.

If possible, use of the low vacuum module power stage
is preferred:
■Lower noise emissions
■Longer service life
■Lower power consumption
■Less pellet damage
Conversion to the high power stage can increase the
functional reliability of the vacuum system.

For 32 to 48 kW with vacuum system: Prior to fit-
ting the mounting bracket, remove the cable from
the nearby cable tie.
Secure the mounting bracket for the vacuum mod-
ule with 3 self-tapping screws.
Note
18 and 24 kW: The parts for steps 1 to 3 can be
found in the box for the vacuum module.
32 to 48 kW: The parts for steps 1 to 3 can be
found in a box in the pellet hopper.
2. Position vacuum module (pipe connectors to the
rear) and secure it to the mounting bracket from
below with 3 knurled screws.
3. Push the plastic pipe bend onto the bottom of the
vacuum module.
Slide the pipe clamp over the pipe bend and fasten
tightly.
4. Remove the pellet hopper cover.
To do this, press the tensioning toggle clips and
open the tensioning toggles.
5. Remove the pellet hose from the pellet hopper.

6. Close the cover again. 7. Fit the supplied earth cable.

Push pellet hose onto the pipe connectors on the
pellet hopper and vacuum module (bottom) and
secure with hose clips.
2. Route the vacuum module cable to the control unit
and secure with cable ties. The plug will later be
plugged in on the control unit at sYF.

1. Insert horizontal rails into the slots of the vertical
rails and secure with self-tapping screws.
Use the rails with prefitted magnets C for the
front rail set.
Note
The prefitted magnets will hold the maintenance
door closed later.
2. Fit the rear and front rail sets on the boiler using
self-tapping screws.
3. Hook in 2 tie-bars and secure with self-tapping
screws.
Also secure the two vertical rails to the base plate
with self-tapping screws.
Use the supplied retaining brackets for this pur-
pose:
18 and 24 kW: One retaining bracket A (front)
32 to 48 kW: One retaining bracket B (front) and
one A (back)
