NOTE:The supplied INF file ensures compatibility with Windows operating systems,
and th e ICM fi le (Image Co lor Matchin g) ensures a ccurate on -screen c olors. ViewSonic
®
recommends that you install both files.
Precautions
• For best viewing conditions sit at least
18” from the monitor.
• AVOID TOUCHING THE SCREEN
WITH YOUR FINGERS. Oils from the
skin are diffic ult to remove.
• NEVER REMOVE THE REAR
COVER. The monit or contain s high
voltage parts. You may suffer serious
injury if you touch these parts.
• Avoid exposing the monitor to direct
sunligh t or anoth er heat so urce. T he
monitor sho uld b e facing away fro m
direc t su nligh t t o reduc e glare.
• Always handle your monitor with care
when mo ving it .
• Choose a well ventilated area to position
your monitor. Do not place anything on
the mon itor that prev ents adequat e
dissi pation of he at.
• Ensure the area around the monit or is
clean an d free of moist ure.
• Keep th e m onitor away fro m m agnets,
motors, tr ansformers, sp eakers, and
tele vision s.
• Do not p lace he avy objec ts on the
monitor, video cable, or power cord.
• If smoke, abnormal noise, or strange
odor is presen t, immediat ely switch th e
monito r off and call your dealer or
ViewSonic. It is dangerous to continue
using the monitor.

Quick Installation
1 Connect v ideo cab le
Make sure both the monitor and computer are
powered OFF.
Connect theDB-15 video cable to the
com puter. (The mo nitor ca n al so be
connected to a BNC video cable, purchased
separately).
Macintosh®users: Models older than G3
require a Macintosh adapter. A ttach the
adapter to the computer and plug the video
cable into the adapter.

on page 14.
2 Connect m onitor base cord
Connect the monitor base cord from the AC
OUT port to the AC I N port on the m onitor.
3 Connect p ower co rd
Connect the power cord from the monitor
base to a properly grounded AC outlet.
4 Connect U SB devices
Connect the USB cable from your computer
USB port to the US B Input on the rear of the
monitor base. To use the USB Hub, connect
the selected USB devices (up to four) to the
USB downstream ports shown below.
5 Power-ON monitor and computer
Power-ON the mo nitor, then power-ON the
computer. This sequence (monitor before
computer) is very imp ortant.
NOTE:At thi s poi nt Window s 98 users may
receive a message asking them to install the
P225 INF file.
6 Install Display Optimizati on files
(INF and ICM files)
(1) Insert the ViewSonic Wizard CD-ROM
into your computer ’s CD-ROM drive.
NOTE:If your computer does not have a
CD-ROM drive, see “Customer Support” on
page 12.
(2) Wait for the CD-ROM to auto-start.
NOTE:If the CD-R OM does not auto-start:
double-click on the CD-ROM icon in
Windows Explorer, then double-click on
install.exe.
(3) Follow the on-screen instructions.

Using the Monitor
Setting the Timing Mode
Setting the tim ing mode is im portant for maximizing the quality of the screen
image and minimizing eye strain. The timingmodeconsists of the resolution
(example 1600 x 1200) and refreshrate(or vertical frequency; example 85 Hz).
After setting the ti ming mode, use the OnView
®
controls to adjust the s creen image.
The recommended timing modes for this monitor are:
VESA1600x1200@85Hz.
To set the Timing Mode:
1Set the resolution: Right-click on the Windows
®
desktop > Properties> Settings>
DesktopArea> set the resolution.
2Set the refresh rate: See your grap hic card's u ser guide for i nstructions .
NOTE:To minimize t he adjust ments required for an op timal screen image, se lect a
timing mode from the PresetTimingModesta ble be low.
WARNING:Do NOT set t he graphics card in you r c omputer to ex ceed the max imum
refresh rate for ea ch resolution (see below). Doing so may result in permanent d amage to
your mo nitor.

With the Main Menu shown below, use the buttons on the front control panel to adjust the
OnView

controls w hich dis play on t he screen. The OnView controls are expl ained at t he
top of the next page and are defined in “Main Menu Controls” on page 8.

1To display the Mai n Menu (parts 1 and 2) as shown b elow, pre ss butto n [1].
2To select a control you want to adjust, press the arrow buttons on the front control
pane l o f yo ur mo nitor (t s) an d scr oll throu gh t he choices . W hen the con trol you want
is highlighted, press button [2].
NOTE:Some controls on the Main Menu are listed in pairs, such as Contrast/
Brightness. Display control screen. Press button [2] to toggle to the next control in
the pair.
3To adjust the sel ected c ontrol, su ch as CONTR AST , press the arrow button s [  ] and 
[  ]).
4To save the control setting and Exit the menu press button [1] twice.

Main Menu Controls
Adjust the menu items shown below by using the up [  ] and down  [  ] buttons.
Control Explanation
Contrast adj usts the difference betw een the i mage backg round
(black level) and the foreground (white level).
Brightness adjus ts the back ground blac k level o f the screen
image.
Size & Posit ion: Press button [2] to select one of the following
controls to adjust:
Zoom, Horiz ontal P osition, Horizo ntal Size ,
or
Vertic al Size.
Zoom
e xpands a nd c ontracts the entire i mage.
Horizontal Position moves the s creen image left or right.
Horizontal Size adjusts the width of the screen image.
Vertic al P osition moves the sc reen image u p or down.
Vert ica l S ize ad justs the heigh t o f t he s creen image.
Geometry: Press button [2] to select one of the following
controls to adjust:
Vertical Pinc ushion, Side Pincushion
Balance, Trapezoid, or Parallelogram
.
Vertical Pin cushion straightens the vert ical sides of th e screen.
Side Pinc ushion Balanc e cu rves the screen ’s v ertical edg es t o
the left or right.
Tr a p e z o i d adjusts the top and bottom of the screen image until
they have equal length.

Parallelogram straigh tens the four co rners of the screen i mage.
Advanced Geomet ry Press b utton [2] to select one of the
following controls to adjust:
To p Hook ing, Bo ttom Hook,
Hourglass, or Hourglas s Bal.
Top Hooking adjusts the top corners of the screen image.
Bottom Hook adjusts the bottom corners of the screen image.
Hourglass straightens the curve at the top or bottom of vertical
edges of the screen image appearing as “bulges”.
Hourglass Bal. Allows further straigtening of the curve at the top
or bottom of the vert ical e dges of the screen i mages appea ring as
“bulges” .
Tilt rotates the entire screen image.
ViewMatch
®
Color prov ides seve ral color op tions: seve ral pres et
color tempera tures and User Color which allows you to adjust red
(R), green (G), and b lue (B). The factory setting for this product is
9300K ( 9300°
Kelvin).
9300K —Adds blue to the s creen image for cooler white (used in
most office settings with fluorescent lighting).
7500K —Add s red to the sc reen image for warmer whit e and
richer red.
6500K —Add s red to the sc reen image for warmer whit e and
richer red.
5000K —Add s red to the sc reen image for warmer whit e and
richer red.
User Color —Individual adjustments for red, green, and blue.
