21. No preheating is required.
22. Do not operate while unattended; the contents could jam inside the
toaster, causing a fire.
23. For pastry items, always use the defrost setting. Using a higher setting
may cause frosting and fillings to ignite.
24. Do not force the toaster’s music to play by repeatedly pushing the mid-
cycle cancel button. This could interfere with the normal re-charge time
for the music, and cause the melody to temporarily sound distorted. If the
melody should distort or begin to fade, simply allow the toaster to go
through a normal toasting cycle. The circuit will then properly recharge
and the melody will return to its normal function.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce
the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact
a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.
A short electrical cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from
entanglement or tripping over a longer cord. Longer extension cords may be
used with care. If a long extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of
the extension cord should be at least equal to the electrical rating of the
appliance. If your appliance has a grounded three-prong plug, you must use a
compatible three-wire extension cord.
3
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed, including:
1. Read all instructions.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces, instead use the handles.
3. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse power cord, plug or
appliance in water or any other liquid.
4. If the power cord is damaged, the manufacturer (or a similarly qualified
person) must replace it in order to avoid a hazard.
5. Do not use outdoors.
6. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is being used by or
near children.
7. Avoid contact with moving parts.
8. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer
may cause fire, electric shock or injury.
9. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow appliance
to cool completely before putting on or taking off parts.
10. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged power cord or plug or
after the appliance malfunctions or is dropped or damaged in any
manner. Return appliance to VillaWare for examination, repair or electrical
or mechanical adjustment.
11. Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or counter or
touch any hot surface.
12. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use.
13. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
14. To disconnect, remove the plug from the wall outlet.
15. Do not clean the appliance with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off
from the pad and touch electrical parts, creating a risk of electrical shock.
16. Failure to clean the crumb tray often may result in a fire hazard.
17. Be sure that the crumb tray is closed completely before using the toaster.
18. Oversized foods, metal foil packages and metal utensils must not be
inserted in a toaster as they may cause fire or electrical shock.
19. Do not cover the toaster when it is in use. A fire may occur if the toaster
is touching or covered by flammable materials when in operation.
20. Do not attempt to dislodge food while the toaster is plugged in.

A few easy steps to keeping your toaster looking and working like new:
1. Always allow the toaster to cool before cleaning and always unplug it
from the wall outlet. There is no need to disassemble the toaster for
cleaning. Never immerse the toaster in water.
2. Slide out the crumb tray, discard the crumbs and wipe the tray with a
clean cloth. Do not use a scouring pad or steel wool, as this will damage
the housing finish. Do not use abrasive cleaners that will scratch the
surface of the toaster. A little metal polish suitable for stainless steel
may be used occasionally.

For best results, follow these simple instructions. Note that when your toaster is
new, you may notice some slight smoking or odor. This is normal with many
heating appliances and will not recur. This does not affect the safety of your
appliance.
1. Plug in the toaster.
2. Select your desired toasting level from 1 to 5 with the control dial. The
higher the number, the browner the toast will be. Toasting is affected by
the temperature of the bread (refrigerated or at room temperature), the
moisture content, and freshness and thickness of the bread slice.
3. Place the bread in the slots and press down on the lift control knob.
This lift control will automatically pop up when your toasting cycle is
complete. If you wish to stop toasting in mid-cycle, just push the cancel
button and the lift control will pop up.
Do not force the lift control up by hand, as this can damage the toaster.
Instead, always push the cancel button to get the toaster to pop up
before the automatic cycle has completed.
Sometimes when toasting many slices one after another, the lift control
may not lock down immediately, and you may hear a buzzing sound.
This means that the toaster’s thermostat has not had time to reset itself.
Simply wait a few seconds and try again.
4. If your bread gets stuck during toasting, push the cancel button and
unplug the toaster, allowing it to cool completely before attempting to
remove the bread. Do not insert knives, forks or other utensils into the
toaster, as as this will pose a risk of electrical shock and may damage the
heating elements and toaster mechanism.
