Validity and technical state of these operating instructions
These operating instructions apply to the air heater Airtherm 3.3 (built-in version for bearing unit).
Technical modifications after date of printing are not considered. Subjected to change without notice.

All information given in this manual are collected and checked to the best of one´s knowledge and
belief.
Read before installation and start-up of the equipment the manual attentively and always keep these in the
proximity of the equipment.
VISECO GmbH does not take any liability to any kind of damages resulting from incorrect operation or
handling, misuse, unauthorized technical modifications, incorrect connection or from repairs by
unauthorized personnel.
If it comes to a sale of the equipment by the customer into the non-European marketing area, no
adhesions are taken over by VISECO GmbH. The equipment is conceived, built and documented
exclusively for the European marketing area.
Upon resale of the equipment into the non-European area the salesman has the obligation to fulfil all legal
editions of the respective marketing area/country.

Summary of safety notes
This section summarizes all safety notes of relevance. Read and understand the safety notes before
installing and commissioning the device, and observe them. Safety notes of particular importance are
additionally repeated in the relevant passages throughout this manual.
The Airtherm 3.3 air heater is not explosion-proof. It must not be used within
explosion-endangered areas (zones 0 to 2 according to ATEX). Danger of explosion!
During operation, the head end of the air heater emits hot air! Non-isolated metal
parts may become hot! Burning hazard!
Work on compressed air lines may only be performed in depressurised state. Risk of
personal injury!
Only connect and install electrical equipment when the device is switched-off and no
voltage is applied. Mortal danger by electric shock!
Work on electrical installations and equipment as well as repair work on the air heater
may only be performed by adequately trained qualified personnel and in conformity
with the applicable national rules and regulations (in Germany: VDE regulations,
among others).
The air heater is intended to be used as a component installed in assemblies. According to
the EMC regulation 2004/108/EEC, EMC testing has to be performed for the entire assembly
prior to commissioning after installing and connecting the air heater.
The air heater may only be connected to compressed air filtered with a steam trap and a 20
micron particle filter. Contaminated and/or humid air may destroy the heating cartridge.
The head end of the air heater must not be dipped into solvents or other liquids! Danger of
destruction!

1 Specified use
The air heater Airtherm 3.3 (built-in version for bearing unit) is exclusively intended for heating
compressed air and for use as a built-in component installed in assemblies. It may only be connected to
VISECO controllers of the type HT 55 DUO.
The air heater may only be used for applications described here and only in conformity with the
specifications in these operating instructions. Any other application is considered to be improper use
and is not permitted.
The air heater Airtherm 3.3 (built-in version for bearing unit) must not be used within explosion-
endangered areas (zones 0 to 2 according to ATEX)!
In case of improper use or misuse of the device VISECO GmbH does not accept any liability. Improper
use or misuse furthermore will terminate all and any claims under a warranty.
To the intended use belong also the constant attention of the available manual and particularly the
observance of the servicing instructions.

3 Mounting and electrical connection
The air heater is not explosion-proof. It must not be used within explosion-endangered

3.1 Mounting
Use a Teflon sealing tape or another sufficiently heat-resistant sealing material to seal the threaded joints.
When screwing in threaded joints, use a spanner to hold the respective connecting piece at the air heater
and the head end tight.
1. Connect the compressed air supply to the connection box of the air heater.
Thread size G1/2“.
2. Connect the consumer to the head end of the air heater. Do not hold the housing of the air heater
tight when screwing in the fitting! This may damage the head end.

3.2 Electrical connection
The air heater is delivered with the connecting cable for the controller already attached. The amphenol
plug attached to the connecting cable is suitable for the connector HT 55 DUO so that you only have to
join up the plugs. The plugs are mechanically coded and can therefore be joined up only with the contacts
in the correct position.
For the internal wiring please refer to section 2.2.

4 Initial commissioning
In the case of defects or leakages in the compressed air system explosive mixtures in
the air heater can form by running back spraying property (solvent). In order to
prevent this, the air heater must be flowed through with each start-up directly before
switching on at least 10 seconds with compressed air. Danger of explosion!
During operation, the head end of the air heater emits hot air! Non –isolated metal parts
may become hot! Burning hazard!
1. Check the compressed air connections for tightness.
2. Before commissioning the air heater for the first time make sure that the installation and electrical
connection of the controller has been performed correctly and that the air heater is correctly
connected to the controller.
3. Perform further commissioning according to the operating instructions of the controller HT 55
5 Cleaning and maintenance
The air heater does not require any maintenance. Clean the air heater using a damp smooth cloth if
necessary. For cleaning the air hose and the connecting cable you can also use normal cleaning agents
suitable for varnishing/paint-spraying devices. If you are not sure about the suitability of a cleaning agent
please contact VISECO.
The head end of the air heater must not be dipped into solvents or other liquids! Danger of
destruction!
6 Transport and storage
After the device has left the factory the air heater may only be transported in suitable packaging.
Permissible temperatures for storage and transport: -25°C to 85°C
Permitted relative humidity: 90% max., non-condensing

7 Repair
Work on electrical installations may only be performed in the off and de-energized state.
Mortal danger by electric shock!
Work on compressed air lines may only be performed in depressurised state.
Risk of personal injury!
Repair work on the air heater may only be performed by adequately trained qualified
personnel.
7.1 Replacing the heating cartridge
The head end of the air heater partly consists of sensitive precision parts.
Work carefully and without any use of force in order to keep the head end undamaged.
1. Allow the head end to cool.
2. Depressurise the compressed air supply and unscrew and remove the consumer.
Use a Teflon sealing tape or another sufficiently heat-resistant sealing material to seal the
threaded joints again.
When screwing the consumer on and off, use a spanner to hold the connecting piece at
the head end tight. Do not hold the housing of the air heater tight when screwing!
Thread size G1/2“.
3. Unscrew the countersunk screw (2) from the head
end
4. Pull-off the isolation sleeve (1).
5. Unscrew and pull-off the jacket (3). When screwing
the jacket off, use a spanner to hold tight at the
bottom of the head end.
6. Pull-off the heating cartridge (4) from the pins.
7. Check the sealing (5) for damages and clean it. If
necessary, replace the sealing.
8. Carefully insert the new heating cartridge to the
connection pins (6). The heating cartridge and the
head end are mechanically coded to avoid incorrect
insertion of the heating cartridge. Pay attention that
the pins of the head end and the contacts of the
heating cartridge can be plugged together easily
and without any force. In case of incorrect mounting
(turned mounting causes mixed connection of the
contacts) the integrated temperature sensor will be
destroyed immediately after switching-on.
9. For assembly, perform the steps 5. to 2. in reverse
order.
10. Send in the defective heating cartridge for testing and
if possible for repair.

The reducing sleeve at the isolating cap of the air heater can be removed as required. For this press the
reducing sleeve into the inside of the cap.
If the reducing sleeve is needed again, it can be attached problem-free again. For this press it by the
isolating cap from the inside till it engages.

9 Warranty
VISECO guarantees that all devices made by VISECO and wearing the name VISECO are free of material
and production faults at the time they are sold by authorized sales representatives to the original buyer.
VISECO will repair or replace all parts of the device which have been accepted by VISECO to be faulty
within a period of 12 months after the date of sale.
This warranty is only valid if the device has been installed, operated and maintained according to the
written instructions issued by VISECO.
This warranty does not include general wear or any kind of malfunction or damage caused by incorrect
installation or operation, abrasion, corrosion, inadequate or incorrect maintenance, negligence,
unauthorized modifications or fitting of parts that are not original VISECO parts. Moreover, VISECO will
not be liable for any malfunctions, damages or wear causes this way.
Furthermore, VISECO will not be responsible for malfunctions, damages or wear resulting from
incompatibility of VISECO devices with structures, spare parts, devices or materials not supplied by
VISECO or those resulting from improper design, production, installation, operation or maintenance or
which are caused by structures, spare parts, devices or materials not supplied by VISECO.
This warranty will be valid under the condition that the device to be guaranteed is sent free of charge to
VISECO to repair the indicated fault. If the indicated fault is confirmed, VISECO will repair or replace any
kind of faulty part free of charge. The device will be sent back to the sender not free. If no material or
production defect should be found during testing we will repair the device according to our valid prices
which include the costs for spare parts, work and transport.
VISECO´s sole liability as well as the purchaser´s only appeal in case of lacking warranty result from the
above said. The purchaser agrees to the fact that no other appeal will be admitted (inclusively but not
exclusively claims for damages following profit losses, not concluded sales, personal and material
damages or other). Any kind of lacking warranty has to be claimed within two (2) years after date of sale.
VISECO´s warranty does not include any accessory parts, materials or components delivered by VISECO
but not produced by VISECO. Those parts delivered by VISECO but not produced by VISECO are subject
of guarantee bonds of the respective producers, as far as available. Should such a producer not fulfil his
warranty, VISECO will support the purchaser with any kind of adequate assistance.
This VISECO warranty does not include:
•Necessary replacement of sealings and packings as a result of normal wear.
•Heating cartridges.
Normal wear is not considered as material or production failure.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
VISECO will not be liable in any case for indirect damages following or for particular damages resulting
from the delivery of devices by VISECO, neither for damages resulting from the breach of a contract or
from the lacking of warranty nor for damages due to negligence by VISECO or other circumstances. This
also applies to damages possibly resulting form the design, the product features or the use of VISECO
devices or other devices delivered by VISECO but not produced by VISECO.
