1 About this operating manual
You will need to read this operating manual before you use the device for
the rst time or if you have been tasked with performing other kinds of
work on it.
Pay particular attention to Chapter 3, “General safety instructions.”
1�1 General
This operating manual is designed to make it easier for you to familiarize
yourself with the device and use it for the purposes for which it is intend-
ed.
The manual contains important information and instructions for operating
the device safely and correctly.
The operating manual must
be read and followed by anyone tasked with working with the com-
pressed air device.

It is a good idea to keep the manual inside the transport case of the

Although each VOGT compressed air device is designed for specic types
of task, all devices have the same general structure. Each compressed air
device is made up of four components:

TurboSpade
VOGT Hammer
The VOGT Hammer is a compressed air hammer in the shape of a lance.
As well as having the robustness required for everyday use, the VOGT
Hammer is also highly adaptable and comes in a wide range of versions.
For instance, the VOGT Hammer is available with two dierent handles.
The standard handle is especially versatile, while the Delta handle makes it
easier to apply force in the direction of the stick.
Two dierent rammers are also available for the VOGT Hammer, which
dier in terms of blow frequency, blow force, and weight.
VH 30 / VH 30 Delta: This lightweight device with a high blow frequency
and a 14 mm chisel holder is primarily designed for working or re-
moving brittle materials on walls, ceilings, and oors. It is tted with a
vibration damping system to reduce the vibration load during work.
VH 25 / VH 25 Delta: This device is the same as a VH 30 / VH 30 Delta
but without the vibration damping system.
VH 60.18 / VH 60.18 Delta: This powerful device with a low blow fre-
quency but a high blow force and a sturdy 18 mm chisel holder is
primarily designed for working or removing tough materials on oors,
roofs, soil, and, in certain situations, walls as well. It is tted with a
vibration damping system to reduce the vibration load during work.
VH 50.18 / VH 50.18 Delta: This device is the same as a VH 60.18 / VH
60.18 Delta but without the vibration damping system.
VH 60 / VH 60 Delta: This device is the same as a VH 60.18 / VH 60.18
Delta but with a 14 mm chisel holder instead. It is tted with a vibra-
tion damping system to reduce the vibration load during work.

VH 50 / VH 50 Delta: This device is the same as a VH 60 / VH 60 Delta
but without the vibration damping system.
All versions of the VOGT Hammer can be supplied in dierent device
lengths, allowing the device to be adapted even more closely to suit its
area of application and the user.
Control elements
1. Trigger lever
The trigger lever is used to start up the VOGT Hammer. The rammer is
supplied with compressed air while the trigger lever is pressed down.
VOGT TurboSpade
With a low blow frequency but a high blow force and a sturdy 18 mm chis-
el holder, the VOGT TurboSpade is ideal for vertical work. The wide range
of tools available makes the VOGT TurboSpade suitable for tasks such as
digging, breaking up, compacting, and ramming.
Its T-shaped handle makes it particularly easy on the back when working.
The vibration damping system on the VOGT TurboSpade VTS 60 serves to
reduce the vibration load. An alternative option is the VOGT TurboSpade
VTS 50, which comes without a vibration damping system.
All versions of the VOGT TurboSpade can be supplied in dierent device
lengths, allowing the device to be adapted even more closely to suit its
area of application and the user.

2�3 VOGT Soil Aerator / Air Injector
VOGT Soil Aerator
The VOGT Soil Aerator combines a VOGT TurboSpade with an injection
tube. It is used to aerate and loosen soil, for instance.
The VOGT TurboSpade uses its rammer to drive the injection tube down to
the desired depth. Compressed air is then pumped through the injection
tube straight into the material to be loosened, in order to open up soot-
blocked channels, for example.
Control elements
1. Trigger lever
The trigger lever on the VOGT Soil Aerator is used to insert the injection
tube into the material to be loosened (e.g. the soil). The rammer is sup-
plied with compressed air while the trigger lever is pressed down.
2. Stop cock
The stop cock is used to push the compressed air into the material to be
loosened (e.g. the soil):
Lever perpendicular to tube: The valve is closed.
Lever parallel to tube: The valve is open.
The ow volume and thus the intensity of the aeration can be adjusted by
partially opening the stop cock.

VOGT Air Injector
The VOGT Air Injector combines a VOGT TurboSpade with an injection
tube. It is used to aerate and loosen soil, for instance.
The VOGT TurboSpade uses its rammer to drive the injection tube down
to the desired depth. A rapid blast of air is blown into the material to be
loosened (e.g. the soil) through a compressed air infeed that has been
dimensioned accordingly and an adapted valve system. This causes the
material to be broken up or aerated, making it easy to transport o site or
processed by other means.
Control elements
1. Trigger lever
The trigger lever on the VOGT Soil Aerator is used to insert the injection
tube into the material to be loosened (e.g. the soil). The rammer is sup-
plied with compressed air while the trigger lever is pressed down.
2. Control lever
The control lever is used to push the compressed air into the material to
be loosened (e.g. the soil):
Control lever pulled: The valve is open.
Control lever in neutral: The valve is closed.
3. Stop cock
The ow volume and thus the intensity of the aeration can be adjusted by

3�1 Basic principles
Only use the device in a technically awless condition.
In the event of faults, malfunctions, or changes in the operating behavior
of the compressed air device, switch it o immediately and arrange for the
fault to be xed.
3�2 Intended use
VOGT Hammer /
TurboSpade
VOGT Hammers / TurboSpades are hand-held devices (machinery) for
performing mechanical tasks such as compacting, ramming, scraping, cut-
ting, breaking up, removing, solidifying, uncovering, cleaning, digging, and
loosening materials or aeration. They must be used together with original
VOGT tools and accessories.
The basic sets specied for each task contain the appropriate tools, acces-
sories, and protective equipment for dierent applications such as civil
engineering, road construction, outdoor or indoor work, and renovating
walls, oors, and roofs.
To minimize the risk to health due to the impact of vibrations from the
pneumatic actuator, a limit must be imposed on how long the user is per-
mitted to be exposed to vibrations.

General information
Adequate lighting must be ensured whenever the compressed air devices
are being used.
Use in potentially explosive atmospheres is prohibited. This can create
sources of ignition in the form of sparks, hot surfaces, etc., potentially
causing an explosion.
The rammer on a VOGT compressed air device must never be held under
water. This may cause damage to the device or even render it unusable.
The operating manual contains basic information on safe use and on
residual risks that may arise during use. The user or the user’s employer
is required to assess the risks specic to the planned use and take action
to reduce these and protect health. Safety instructions in the manual must
always be followed during use.
The VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade must not be modied. Modications can
make safety measures less eective and expose the user to greater risk.
Only use lubricated, condensate-free compressed air. Use accessories to
pre-treat the compressed air if required, such as the VOGT precision in-line
oiler (Z 300).
If the device is to be put into storage for longer than two days, it must be
preserved using oil as described in the manual (see instructions for putting
into storage in Chapter 6).
Personal protective equipment
The following personal protective equipment must always be worn when
working with the compressed air devices:
Safety shoes
Safety gloves
Safety glasses
Ear protection
Safety helmet (when working overhead)
In transit
Make sure that the compressed air device is always stable and protect-
ed against tipping and falling over. Use the transport case available or a
similar container to store the device after use or when transporting it over
relatively large distances.
During operation
The compressed air supply must be shut o, the air hose depressurized,

and the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade disconnected from the compressed
air supply:
when the device is not in use.
before replacing tools or accessories.
before carrying out repairs.
After inserting a tool, make sure it is securely locked in place.
If the locking balls (see illustration) have worked their way 4 mm into the
rear of the hexagonal part of the tool, this is a sign of excessive wear. The
size of the hexagon must also not exceed 13.5 mm on devices with a 14
mm chisel holder or 17.3 mm on devices with an 18 mm chisel holder.
Replace worn tools or tools with broken, bent, or warped parts.
If you can twist a new tool more than 10°, this indicates excessive wear to
the chisel holder. If the chisel holder is worn, have it replaced by the man-
ufacturer or an authorized specialist workshop.
Slips, trips, and falls are some of the main causes of workplace injuries.
Watch out for surfaces that may have become slippery through using the
device and for trip hazards posed by the air hose.
Always use a VOGT compressed air device that is appropriate for the
various tasks to be performed in order to prevent excessive strain on your
body. Suitable device versions and sets are available for dierent tasks.
Proceed with caution in unfamiliar conditions of use. Power cables may
pose hidden hazards.
VOGT compressed air devices are not insulated against contact with sourc-
es of electric current. The working area must be clear of supply lines. Use
wiring diagrams and/or line locators.
Make sure that tools and accessories are used safely:
Remove any transport protection supplied with the tools and store it
in the transport case while using the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade. Put
the transport protection back on the tool after use.
Only use accessories and consumables of the sizes and types recom-
mended by the manufacturer. Do not use any other types or sizes of
accessories or consumables.
Never use the chisels or spades as hand-held tools. They have been
specically designed for use with the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade and
heat-treated accordingly.
Never use edgeless tools, as these impair performance and can cause
fatigue fractures. Edgeless tools can also amplify vibrations, which is
why you must always use sharp tools.

YouTube manual: sharpening scrapers and chisels
Never cool hot tools or accessories in water, as this can make them
brittle and cause them to crack prematurely.
Misusing the device – either with or without the tool – as a lever, e.g. to
chisel or dig, can crack or damage it and/or the tool. Work on smaller
parts to prevent the device from getting jammed in material.
Avoid direct contact with the tool during and after use, as it may be hot
or have sharp edges. Use safety gloves when replacing tools and allow
the tool and lock to cool down.
Make sure that you handle compressed air and the pneumatic compo-
nents of the compressed air devices correctly:
Never point the ow of air or the tool toward yourself or other people
or animals.
Serious injuries can result from hose lines ying around. You must
therefore always check whether the hoses and their fasteners are un-
damaged and have not come loose.
Keep the exhaust air from the device away from your body.
Make sure that the specied operating pressure is not exceeded.
Never use the hose to carry or pull the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade.
3�5 Additional safety instructions for the VBL / VAI
In addition to the safety instructions set out above, other safety-related
instructions also apply when working with the VOGT Soil Aerator and the
VOGT Air Injector as a result of the tools used.
Always use the VOGT Soil Aerator and the VOGT Air Injector together with
the rubber protection cap. Damaged or worn rubber protection caps must
be replaced immediately.
Rubber protection caps are available as spare parts at short notice (I19 002
or 035 240).
Claw couplings on the compressed air hose must be xed in place with
hose clamps. The hose clamp prevents the end of the hose from lashing
out if the coupling is unintentionally released under pressure.
Always bring the stop cock on the VOGT Soil Aerator and the VOGT Air
Injector back into its locked position after aerating the material to be loos-
ened in order to prevent compressed air from owing out uncontrollably.
Never use the injection tube to pull the VOGT Soil Aerator along the
ground. This might open the lever on the stop cock, causing compressed
air to escape from the injection tube at high pressure and high speed. Soil,
deposits, or loose objects could be ung about.
Blowing compressed air into solid materials (e.g. layers of soil) can cause

the ground to lift up briey as a result of the compressed air being blown
into it. Soil or stones could be ung away outside the rubber protection
cap. Always wear safety glasses.
Anyone inside the immediate working area of the VOGT Air Injector must
be asked to leave. The operator may also decide that a splash protection
wall needs to be erected to prevent injury and damage to property from
parts being sprayed out.
The work step may only commence when the injection lance is inside the
material to be loosened (e.g. the soil).
3�6 Residual risks
Noise
If inadequate ear protection is worn, the impact of high noise levels can
cause permanent hearing loss and other problems such as tinnitus (a
ringing, whooshing, whistling, or buzzing noise in the ear). The operator is
required to carry out a risk assessment regarding these hazards and take
measures to reduce noise and protect health. Observe the following:
VOGT compressed air devices must be operated and maintained as
recommended in the manual.
Select, maintain, and, if necessary, replace tools in line with the manu-
facturer’s recommendations.
A sound absorber (Z 850) is available as an optional accessory for
VOGT Hammers / TurboSpades.
Take additional measures to reduce noise in the workplace.
Use ear protectors in accordance with your employer’s policies and/or
occupational health and safety regulations.
Dust / Fumes
Dust and fumes generated during use can cause damage to health (e.g.
cancer, birth defects, asthma, and/or dermatitis). The operator is required
to carry out a risk assessment regarding these hazards and must take
measures to prevent hazardous substances from being released or, if they
are, to collect them and divert them away and/or provide personal protec-
tive equipment. Observe the following:
The risk assessment must cover the kinds of dust generated during
use as well as the kinds of dust that may already be circulating in the
air.
If any dust or fumes are released, the top priority is to monitor them
where they are released.
A dust suction (Z 800) is available as an optional accessory for VOGT
Hammers / TurboSpades.
The VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade must be operated and maintained as
recommended in the manual.
Observe the material safety data sheets for the operating materials used.
Use respiratory protective equipment in accordance with your employ-
er’s policies and/or occupational health and safety regulations.

Objects being ung away
Objects, dust, materials, loose workpieces, or the compressed air device
itself can be ung away during use:
Make sure that any component or workpiece to be worked is xed
securely in place.
Place the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade securely on the surface to be
worked before switching the device on.
Always wear impact-resistant eye protection. The degree of protection
should be assessed separately for each use.
Wear a safety helmet when working overhead.
Also assess risks to other people within the eective range of the de-
vice and take corresponding safety precautions.
Vibrations
The impact of vibrations can damage the nerves and disrupt blood ow in
the hands and arms. Observe the following:
The VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade must be operated and maintained
as recommended in this manual to prevent the vibrations from being
amplied unnecessarily.
Using the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade for an excessive length of
time harbors severe health risks if the strains caused by vibrations are
allowed to act on your body for too long. Take breaks in good time be-
fore you feel any discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, or chest.
When working in cold conditions, wear warm clothes and keep your
hands warm and dry.
If you nd that the skin on your ngers or hands is getting numb, tin-
gling, hurting or turning white, stop working with the VOGT Hammer /
TurboSpade, tell your employer, and consult a physician.
Hold the device securely but not too tightly while maintaining the nec-
essary reaction forces in your hands, because the strain caused by the
vibrations increases the more tightly you grip.
The vibration load is higher when working on harder materials than
soft ones.
When working with concrete, break o small bits in order to prevent
the tool from seizing up.
Keep the tool on the material to be worked. Do not operate the com-
pressed air device when it is not in contact with the material. Doing so
will increase the vibrations and the wear to the tool and chisel holder.
The exposure time and the level of the vibrations during use play a de-
cisive role in determining the strain on the hands and arms caused by
vibrations.
At high vibration levels, only use the VOGT Hammer / TurboSpade for
short periods.
If longer periods are required for use, use devices tted with vibration
damping system or retrot one yourself. The manufacturer can also
carry out this retrot.
A vibration damping system reduces the vibration load signicantly.

Exposure time: the time for which the user is rmly holding the switched-
on compressed air device. During this time, the vibrations from the device
are acting on their body.
3�7 Competencies of personnel
The user must have the following competencies:
They must be at least 18 years old and in full possession of their physi-
cal and mental faculties and must be physically capable of handling the
size, weight, and power of the device.
They must have read and understood the safety instructions and the
parts of the operating manual relevant to operation and must observe
these.
Authorized maintenance personnel must have the following competencies:
They must be at least 18 years old and in full possession of their physi-
cal and mental faculties.
They must have read and understood the safety instructions and the
parts of the operating manual relevant to maintenance and must ob-
serve these.
They must be familiar with the safety concepts and safety rules of com-
pressed air technology.
They must be able to spot potential hazards in compressed air technol-
ogy and act in a safety-conscious way to prevent injury and damage to
property.
They must be trained and authorized to maintain these compressed
air devices safely.

The following stickers are located on the stick of the compressed air devices:
Stickers must always be present and legible. Any that have fallen o or
become damaged or illegible must be replaced without delay. Stickers can be
ordered as spare parts.

4 Transportation
The VOGT compressed air devices are carried to where they are to be
used. It is advisable to use the VOGT transport case available as an acces-
sory or a similar transportation aid for this purpose. The transport case
has space for the compressed air device, the most important accessories,
the operating manual, and other documents if required.
When transporting it inside a vehicle, make sure that the VOGT com-
pressed air device is secured against slipping, rolling around, and falling
over or down. Any transport case used should always be securely closed.
