Why do I need a watch winder?
All automatic watches use the everyday motions of our hands in order
for it to generate power for itself. These watches do not carry a battery
and therefore uses a power reserve in the watch to keep the movement
going even when the watch isn’t being worn. Depending on the watch,
the reserve generally lasts for a period of 24-40 hours. If a watch is not
being worn for a period of time which is longer than the reserve time, it
will stop keeping time. There are many reasons why a person might not
wear their watch for a period longer than their reserve. For example,
if you have multiple watches, you might rotate watches throughout the
week, or you may go on a vacation and opt to leave your watch behind.
Whatever the reason may be, eventually the reserve will fade and your
watch will ultimately stop keeping time. This can be a greater nuisance
if your watch has a moon phase feature which requires a more tedious
setting to readjust it.
The solution to this problem is to use a Volta watch winder, which
basically mimics the everyday motions made by your hand in order to
keep the watch running and accurate. All Volta winders have the option
of turning clockwise, counter clockwise, or a combination of both. It
also has four different Turns-Per-Day (TPD) settings, which ensures that
it will work for any type of watch.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
1. Can my watch ever be over-wound?
a. Yes, it is possible to over-wind your watch. Some winders continuously
turn all day long, which eventually will put extra tension on the internal
mechanisms of your watch, and may eventually ruin the movement of
the watch. In order to protect the valuable watches of our customers,
each and every one of our winders feature a programmed timer setting
which ensures that it rotates for certain amount of time, then rests, then
repeats. This added feature allows you to never have to worry about
over-winding your watch because it doesn’t constantly turn like other
brands do. You can rest assure that none of our winders will ever over-
wind your watch!
2. How do I know which Turns-Per-Day setting is right for my watch?
a. Each and every watch has a different TPD requirement in order to keep
it running. Please check our website (www.voltawinders.com) for the most
up to date list on TPD requirements for most watches. Generally, the rule
of thumb is that you want to use the lowest turns per day setting that
will keep your watch wound. So, if you can’t access our website or your
watch isn’t listed, try setting it to go clockwise and counter-clockwise,
and then set it to the lowest TPD setting. If this doesn’t keep your watch
wound, use the next higher TPD setting until you find one that works for
your watch.

Initial Operation:
1. Before powering the unit on
a. Make sure to position the winder on top of a level surface in order
to allow optimum operation. Plug the adapter into the back of the unit,
then plug the other end into the wall outlet.
2. How to mount the watch onto the holder
a. Make sure the winder is powered off before attempting to pull out
the watch holder.
b. In order to detach the watch holder, push the two handles on both
sides of the holder together until the holder detaches from the
mount.
c. On the underside of the holder, there is a spring loaded adjuster.
Push it in all the way and it should lock itself into place.
d. Put the watch around the holder, and center it. Close the watch
around the holder.
e. On each side of the watch holder, there is a circle underneath the
handles. Push both of the circles in on each side (towards each
other) and the spring loaded adjuster should release, therefore
securing your watch into place.
f. Affix the watch holder onto the winder mount.
g. The winder can now be turned on.

3. Inserting the Batteries
Batteries are used in the LCD Display to ensure that your settings remain
programmed in the winder even if there is a loss of power to the actual
winder itself.
**PLEASE DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES**
To insert new batteries (or replace used batteries), remove the cover on the
battery compartment. If you are replacing old batteries, illuminated LED’s
indicate which battery needs to be replaced. Insert new batteries and make
sure to position them according to the + or – sign shown on the battery
compartment.
Full batteries should provide an operating time of approximately one year
depending on the manufacturer and quality. Furthermore, frequent use
of the speed-winding mode, high TPD speeds, or frequent use of the display
can lead to a shorter battery life.
If the winder is not being used for an extended period of time, please make
sure to remove the batteries to avoid any leakage.

Choosing A Winding Mode
Unless you choose SPEEDWINDING mode, watches are wound
in hourly cycles. Short winding phases of 8 revolutions per
minute are followed by longer resting periods. The ratio between
winding time and resting time is determined by the preset number
of revolutions per day. If both clockwise and counterclockwise
rotation is selected, the winder will automatically change the
direction of rotation. The displayed number of revolutions
selected is the total number of revolutions for both directions
combined.
The three winding options available are:
A. AUTO Mode
B. SELECT Mode
C. SPEEDWINDING Mode
D. SLEEP Mode

A. Winding In AUTO Mode
The default setting for your winder is AUTO mode. On AUTO mode, your
winder will rotate at 900 revolutions per day and will turn clockwise
and counterclockwise rotations. This is the most commonly used setting
and accommodates most automatic watches. If you do not know the exact
recommended TPD settings for your exact watch, it is recommended that
you use AUTO mode.
PLEASE NOTE: The winder should be set to AUTO mode and AUTO should
be flashing. If AUTO is not flashing, push until you reach the main
menu. Then push until AUTO is selected and then push to
confirm that you would like to choose AUTO mode.

B. Winding In SELECT Mode
If you know the recommended TPD settings for your particular watch,
it is best to use SELECT Mode. To use the SELECT mode, push until you
reach the menu. Push & until SELECT is highlighted, then confirm
your choice by pushing . Once SELECT is chosen, ALL 1-16 will appear in
the information field. ALL will flash and will indicate their active status
by shaking the respective watch holder.
Use the cursor to navigate to the right and left to select a particular
winder to change the settings for that particular winder. Once a winder
is selected, that particular winder will shake, meaning that the settings
are now able to be adjusted. Once the necessary adjustments have been
made, push to confirm your settings. Repeat this process to change
the settings of each winder.

C. Winding In SLEEPWINDING Mode
SLEEPWINDING mode is used for a watch that is stopped or near the end
of its power reserve. This mode will wind the watch continuously for one
hour in the selected direction of rotation. Once the hour is finished, the
SLEEPWINDING mode stops and the winder will automatically continue
using the previously used mode (AUTO/SELECT)
Activate the SLEEPWINDING mode by selecting it in the main menu. Push
to confirm this setting. Push & to change the rotation of
the rotation direction. Push to confirm the desired rotation. The
remaining time for the SLEEPWINDING mode will be displayed on the LCD
display

D. Winding in SLEEP Mode
The SLEEP mode is the most similar to normal day to day wear. In this
mode, the watch is not wound for a programmable period of up to 16
hours. This mode allows the mainspring to release tension. The number
of revolutions per day shown on the display will be carried out in the
remaining time outside of the sleep period.
To activate the SLEEP mode, navigate to the SLEEP mode and push to
confirm. The word START and the starting time of the sleep phase will
appear in the bottom of the display. Use the & buttons to change
the starting time in increments of 15 minutes. Push to confirm. Then
the word END will appear. Select the time for the SLEEP mode to end, then
push to confirm.
The SLEEP mode will repeat daily unless it is unselected in the menu.

Explanation of the Turns Per Day modes
Your watch winder has a built-in timer that allows it to run on one hour
intervals. Depending on the number of rotations/turns you have selected,
the operation time and the resting time will automatically adjust. If you
select a bi-directional rotation (clockwise and counter-clockwise), the
operation time will be divided in half but the resting period will remain
the same. See the chart below for approximate operation/resting times.
