VORTEX CBX TRIPOD
Congratulations on your purchase of the Vortex CBX carbon fiber tripod.
We are certain the CBX will prove reliable in any terrain and weather.
1. Unlock the safety lock (F) by turning the thumbscrew counter-clockwise, pull
down on the quick release locking pin (H), and remove the quick release plate
(C) from the panhead.
2. Thread the quick release plate onto the body of the spotting scope, binocular, or
camera and tighten the screw so the connection is secure. The anti-twist pin (E)
retracts if not needed.
3. Slide the quick release plate back into the groove on the plate platform (G). Listen
for an audible click—indicating that the plate is locked in place.
4. Secure the quick release plate on the platform by turning the safety lock’s
thumbscrew in a clockwise direction.
Using the panhead
The CBX carbon fiber tripod features a panhead with a
quick release plate (QR) for viewing. To pan from left to
right, loosen the pan lock knob (I) and move the control
handle (A) in the desired direction. To tilt up and down,
loosen the tilt lock knob (J) and move the control handle.
Use the quick release plate to attach a spotting scope, binocular, or camera to
the CBX tripod. To use the quick release plate properly:
1. Thread the panhead onto the panhead mounting bolt (L) and tighten
until secure.
2. Extend the center column (Q) above the locking collar (N) so you can
tighten the three set screws on the underside of the mounting
platform (M) with an Allen wrench.
Attach the panhead to the tripod legs in just two steps:

Extending the leg length
Each tripod leg has three sections with padding on each upper section (P). To extend a leg,
release the flip-lever locks (S) and slide leg sections out to the desired
length. Press the flip-lever back down to lock a section in place.

Adjusting the variable leg angle spread
Adjust the tripod leg angles for ease of use in various scenarios.
Pull out on the leg release (O) and
lift the leg upward, setting it at one
of the three available angles. Repeat
with other legs as needed.
Adjusting the center column
Change the position of the center column (Q) to gain additional height. Unlock
the center column by rotating the collar (N) in a counter-clockwise direction.
Maneuver the center column to the desired height and lock in place by rotating the
collar in a clockwise direction. Stabilize the tripod in windy conditions by hanging
a counterweight (not supplied) from the center column accessory hook (R).
Using the level
Use the leveling bubble on the panhead (B) or tripod shoulder (K) to gauge your
alignment and allow for optimum viewing and photography. The tripod will be level
when the bubble is within the black circle.
Wrench set included.
Note: To adjust tension on the leg lock, release
the flip-lever lock and tighten the lever screw
with an Allen wrench.
The legs on the CBX tripod
can be independently
adjusted to one of three
viewing positions.
