6Before you start1BEFORE YOU STARTAs a Thermomix® user, you are already familiar with the appli-ance and its accessories.This manual will instruct you with regard to the use of the bladecover insert for your Thermomix® TM5 or TM6™.1.Read the corresponding instruction manual carefully beforeusing it for the first time.2.You must also read and observe the instruction manual of theThermomix® TM5 or TM6™, which is supplied with your ap-pliance.1.1PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONYour new blade cover prevents the contents from coming intocontact with the mixing knife, allowing for low-temperaturecooking (slow cooking or sous-vide) with your Thermomix®.Low-temperature cooking not only enables you to prepare juicyand tender meat and fish, but also preserves the vitamins, min-erals and colors of vegetables. This gentle preparation processmakes food even more flavorful.SOUS-VIDESous-vide involves sealing food (e.g. meat, fish or vegetables) ina vacuum pouch and cooking this in a temperature-controlledwater bath while stirring evenly. The aim is for the target core

7temperature to be transmitted directly to the food via the water.The blade cover shields the pouch and food from the mixingknife.SLOW COOKINGSlow cooking involves cooking food at low temperatures, directlyin liquid, unlocking intense spices and aromas. This gentlemethod prevents the food from sticking or getting burned, whilethe blade cover prevents the food from being chopped by themixing knife.COMPATIBILITYThe blade cover can be used in the Thermomix® TM6™ and in theThermomix® TM5.1.2STORING OF PRODUCTDOCUMENTATIONRetain this instruction manual for future reference. 8For your safety2FOR YOUR SAFETYSafety is an essential part of every Vorwerk product.However, the product safety of the Thermomix® and the corre-sponding accessories can only be ensured if this chapter and thewarning notices in the following chapters are observed.NoteThe blade cover is designed exclusively for the Thermomix®TM6™ and Thermomix® TM5 and may not be used with olderpredecessor models.2.1HAZARDS AND SAFETYINSTRUCTIONSRisk tohealthSous-vide and slow cooking both involve cooking food atlow temperatures. Due to the low cooking temperaturesused, it is possible for germs to spread on the food andcause illness.•Ensure hygienic working practices at every stage of the foodpreparation and cooking process.•Immediately after the food has been prepared, it must beconsumed.•Meat and poultry must be briefly roasted following the sous-vide process. This is in order to reduce the number of poten-tial germs on the surface of the food that may cause illness.

9Risk tohealthAll of the accessories for the Thermomix® specifically de-signed for use with the Thermomix® and could be dam-aged if not used properly.•Do not use the accessories for other purposes, particularly athigh temperatures.•Do not use the spatula in hot pots and pans.•To rule out any potential health risks, never use the butterflywhisk when cooking food over a long period of time (slowcooking, sous-vide or fermenting).•Ensure that the blade cover is securely inserted. If you noticethat the blade cover has detached itself from the knife, use aspatula to press it back down again. Failure to do this maylead to the blade cover being damaged.•Should an accessory become damaged, stop using it and re-place it immediately.Risk of injuryIf accessories get caught in the mixing knife when theappliance is running, small splinters and sharp edgescould cause injury.•Use only Thermomix® accessories as described in the operat-ing instructions and on the display.•If any accessories are damaged by the mixing knife, discardthe food and contact Customer Care or your Thermomix®representative for replacement accessories.•Do not place frozen food in the sous-vide pouch.•Never use the blade cover together with glass jars that aresuitable for sous-vide cooking in a cooking pot (e.g. preserv-ing jars or mason jars).en

10For your safetyRisk ofscaldingHot liquid or hot food could splash and cause burns if itcomes into contact with your skin or clothing.•The filled sous-vide pouch and the water must not combineto exceed the "max mark" of the mixing bowl (maximum fill-ing quantity 75oz/2.2-liter).•Remove the hot sous-vide pouch with care.•Proceed with caution when transferring the food followingthe long cooking process. As the blade cover is not secured,this may fall out when removing the food and lead to splash-ing.

11Risk ofscaldingIf the opening in the mixing bowl lid is firmly sealed, ex-cess pressure can build up in the mixing bowl during thecooking process. The hot contents may erupt from theappliance and cause scalding.•Never use any items other than original accessories (measur-ing cup, simmering basket, splash guard, Varoma® dish) asprotection against splashes from the opening of the mixingbowl lid.•Ensure that the sous-vide pouch is no larger than 7.8 x 11.8inches.•When vacuum packing the food, use only boil-proof pouchesthat are suitable for sous-vide cooking and freezing. Pay at-tention to the stated service life (cooking time for a singleuse) when purchasing pouches.•Observe the temperature specifications in the recipe and inthe instruction manual. Do not use a higher temperature un-der any circumstances.•The blade cover attachment may only be used at tempera-tures up to 208°F (98°C). Never use the Varoma® function orthe maximum temperature in combination with the bladecover attachment.•To allow steam to escape at all times and prevent excesspressure, ensure the opening in the mixing bowl lid is neverblocked or covered – either from the inside (e.g. by the con-tents) or from the outside (e.g. by a towel).•If you notice during the cooking process that the opening inthe mixing bowl lid is blocked, unplug Thermomix®. Do nottouch the controls.en

12For your safetyRisk of injuryThe use of attachments, accessories or items that areneither recommended nor sold by Vorwerk, or the use ofdefective or incompatible accessory parts may causefire, electric shock or injury.•Use only the recommended original Vorwerk accessories.•Only use the blade cover attachment in the Thermomix®TM6™ or TM5 and never in any older predecessor models.•Do not make any modifications to the blade cover.•Never use the blade cover attachment if it is damaged.Risk of dam-ageIf the blade cover attachment comes into contact withthe mixing knife or other accessories when the applianceis running, it could crack or break.•Ensure that the blade cover attachment is correctly posi-tioned on the mixing knife before setting the speed.•Never exceed speed 1 and only use reverse rotation.•Do not use the blade cover attachment in combination withother accessories (e.g. butterfly attachment or simmeringbasket).•Do not add any foods that could damage or block the bladecover attachment. Always refer to the instructions of therecipe to use the right type and amount of food.

13Damage RiskIf the mixing bowl and mixing knife are in contact withwater, other liquids or food residues for a long time, theycould get damaged.•Clean and dry the components shortly after use.•Because of variations in water quality, it is also possible forrust to form in the mixing bowl when cooking food over along period of time (slow cooking, sous-vide or fermenting).Therefore please follow the instructions on adding special in-gredients (e.g. citric acid) to the cooking water.en

16Intended use3INTENDED USEThe accessory has been manufactured and tested in line with thelatest technological and safety standards. Use this accessory onlyfor its intended purpose in order to prevent risks to you andother people and to prevent damage to the accessory or otherproperty and equipment.As an accessory for the Thermomix® TM6™ and Thermomix®TM5, the blade cover insert is suitable for household or similaruse.Using the blade cover attachment, you can cook food in the mix-ing bowl at temperatures up to 208°F (98°C) without it cominginto contact with the mixing knife. This means that food can begently cooked at low temperatures in a suitable pouch, either in awater bath (sous-vide) or in liquid (slow cooking). If sufficientliquid is present, the blade cover insert can also be used forrecipes for which the volume of the simmering basket is toosmall for the amount of food or to prevent food from coming intocontact with the mixing knife.The accessory is exclusively intended for use by adults. It maynot be used by children – not even when supervised by an adult.Children should always be kept away from appliances in opera-tion.Please ensure you warn children of the potential dangers ofheat/steam development, hot condensation and hot surfaces.

17The accessory may be used by persons with reduced physical,sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and/orknowledge, only if they are supervised or instructed with regardto the safe use of the appliance and understand the resultinghazards.This appliance may only be used for its intended purpose. Noother use is permitted. The manufacturer bears no responsibilityfor damages resulting from improper use. 18Operation4OPERATIONThe blade cover is a plastic accessory that is placed on the mixingknife. 1.Place the blade cover onto the mixing knife from above.The side featuring the two grippers (1) must face upwards.2.Ensure that the blade cover is correctly attached.4.2SOUS-VIDE WITH THE BLADE COVER1.Ensure that the blade cover is properly inserted; see Insertingthe blade cover [}20].2.Pour the amount of water specified in the recipe into the mix-ing bowl. Ensure that the water level does not exceed the‘max’ marking after adding the pouch. In case of doubt, placethe pouch into the water to test the level and reduce theamount of water if necessary.
