Chapter 1. Overview
1.1 Introduction
The VP-8000 Intelligent Security System is a standalone video analysis system. Up to 4 cameras can
be connected to a single VP-8000 unit. Video can also be displayed on a local VGA monitor. VP-8000 is
independent to any Network DVR. The interface between VP-8000 and DVR is its built-in 4IN / 4OUT
GPIO pins.
This manual will guide you through the features and functions of the VP-8000 Intelligent Security
System. Read this section to get an overview of the product.
1.2 Features

2.6.1 How to enable Alerts
VP-8000 allows users to send emails whenever an alert occurs. Each camera is allowed to be configured
with one Email address only.
Click on Set Intelligent Function.
Check the appropriate boxes.
Note: For email alerts, a valid email address must be entered.
To enable sound alerts, simply click on and choose the desired alert tone from the
associated dropdown menu.
Note: Enabling sound alert allows users to hear audio alarms while monitoring the camera preview
windows.
2.6.2 Customizing the Intelligent Features
Intrusion allows the user to indicate the region of interest (ROI) using the drawing tools, as well as
modify parameters like “Light Flickering”, “Slow Motion” and “Sensitivity” (Fig. 2.9 – Customizing the
Intrusion Feature). Note that “Light Flickering” and “Slow Motion” are mutually exclusive and only one
of these filters can be used at any one time. The former is used to filter very fast motion (e.g. the changes
in lighting conditions caused by the act of turning on or off lights) and the latter is specifically used for
detecting very slow motion.
Fig. 2.9 – Customizing the Intrusion Feature
User will also be able to specify the minimum and maximum sizes of the object of interest. At the same
time, there is a special feature, “Perspective Line” that allows the enhancement of the analysis process by
telling the VP-8000 the depth of view of an area of interest. This is useful if the area of interest spans a

Chapter 2: Operation and Configuration
9
considerable distance. To indicate the depth of the image, it is necessary to draw the perspective line from
the point nearer to the camera to the point that is further away from the camera. VP-8000 will then name
the point near to the camera as “Near” and the other end as “Far”. The user will then need to define the
expected minimum and maximum size of the object of interest in the near-end and far-end of the area of
interest.
When the Perspective feature is not turned on, the minimum and maximum sizes of the object of
interest can be fixed by clicking on the respective Min / Max buttons and indicating the sizes by
drawing directly on the video image.
Perimeter Defense
Perimeter Defense allows the user to draw the virtual barrier anywhere on the image and modify
parameters like “Virtual Barrier Thickness” and the allowed direction of motion (“Enable Directional
Perimeter Line”). An object crossing the virtual barrier in the indicated “allowed direction” will not
trigger an alert. A small red arrow at the mid-point of the virtual barrier indicates the “allowed direction”
(Fig 2.10 – Customizing the Perimeter Defense Feature). Similar to Intrusion, filters (“Light Flickering”,
“Slow Motion” and “Sensitivity”) can be applied to enhance the analysis process.
Fig 2.10 – Customizing the Perimeter Defense Feature
User can also set the perspective feature and its associated sizes in the same way that it is done for
Intrusion. However, for perimeter defense, only the near minimum and far minimum sizes can be defined.

Chapter 2: Operation and Configuration

Missing Object/Unattended Object/Missing and Unattended Object
Missing Object, Unattended Object, and Missing and Unattended Object all share the same customization
tools. Besides the drawing tools which allow the user to draw the area of interest, there are features that
are peculiar to these intelligent functions. They are “Seconds to Alert” and “Alert Reset Time” (Fig.
2.11 – Customizing the Missing/Unattended Object Feature)
Fig. 2.11 – Customizing the Missing/Unattended Object Feature
“Seconds to alert” allows you to literally set the amount of time an object is detected to be missing or
unattended before sounding the alarm. “Alert reset time” is the time taken for the alarm to stop and for
VP-8000 to relearn the new scene, which is the one with the unattended object or without the missing
object, as normal.
The only filter available for these features is “Light Flickering”.
2.7 Switch to Admin Mode
Click this switch to enter administrator mode. You will need administrator name and password
to login in. Default is “demo” and “password”. You can change them after login as administrator.
Under administartor mode, the user has full access to all functions. Under normal operator mode, the
user can do Only control functions such as “Normal view”,”Zoom”, “Overlay”, “Events”
and “shutdown”.

2.8 Record
VP-8000 allows the user to instantly start live recording on every active channel. The use of instant
recording was designed for ease of use during emergency that requires instant live recording.Click record
button to start or stop the recording function.
Note: It is NOT recommended to use VP-8000 as a general recording device because the file size is
large and the system hard disk will be full in two days. For customers that need general
recording functions, please use an external DVR.
