VWR International warrants that this product will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of
two (2) years from date of delivery. If a defect is present, VWR will, at its option and cost, repair, replace, or refund
the purchase price of this product to the customer, provided it is returned during the warranty period. This warranty
does not apply if the product has been damaged by accident, abuse, misuse, or misapplication, or from ordinary wear
and tear. If the required maintenance and inspection services are not performed according to the manuals and any
local regulations, such warranty turns invalid, except to the extent, the defect of the product is not due to such non-
performance.
Items being returned must be insured by the customer against possible damage or loss. This warranty shall be limited
to the aforementioned remedies. IT IS EXPRESSLY AGREED THAT THIS WARRANTY WILL BE IN LIEU OF ALL
WARRANTIES OF FITNESS AND IN LIEU OF THE WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY.
Equipment disposal
This equipment is marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol to indicate that this equipment must not be
disposed of with unsorted waste.
Instead it's your responsibility to correctly dispose of your equipment at lifecycle -end by handling it over to an
authorized facility for separate collection and recycling. It's also your responsibility to decontaminate
the equipment in case of biological, chemical and/or radiological contamination, so as to protect from
health hazards the persons involved in the disposal and recycling of the equipment.
For more information about where you can drop off your waste of equipment, please contact your
local dealer from whom you originally purchased this equipment.
By doing so, you will help to conserve natural and environmental resources and you will ensure that

1. SAFETY INFORMATION

Following safety information must be read and respected before start-up and operation of the ultrasonic cleaning unit:
•Any person using this product must have read and understood this manual. Keep this manual close to the device;
it must be permanently accessible to the operator. This will prevent operator error and ensure operation free of
trouble.
•Check your device for any transport damage. If you find shipping damage, the device must not be connected to
the mains.
•The power cord must be removed from the socket only by pulling the plug, do not pull at the cable. The plug must
not be touched with wet / damp hands.
•Power cords must be routed without loops and must not be bent or wrapped around sharp edges.
•The intended use of the ultrasonic cleaning unit is described in this documentation and must be followed.
•Insufficient information about handling or operation can cause irreparable damage and injuries. As a result, the
unit must be operated by trained personnel only.
•The ultrasonic cleaning unit must be located on a dry, hard and flat horizontal surface.
•The ultrasonic cleaning unit must be connected to the supply voltage specified on the rating label only. The mains
connection must be designed for the rated power consumption.
Always use the correct power cord or –adapter for the available socket outlet.
•Only use cleaning liquids which are approved for use with ultrasonic energy.
•Cleaning liquid in use becomes hot. When cleaning temperature sensitive parts check temperature of cleaning
liquid frequently.
•Flammable or explosive liquids and liquids which will corrode the tank material (CrNi steel 1.4301) must not be
used. Liquids which contain halogens (chlorine, bromine or iodine ions) can cause irreparable damages.
•Never switch on the ultrasonic cleaning unit without cleaning liquid. The cleaning tank must be filled at least to 7/8
of volume (approx. up to the seam). Also ensure that the tank is filled enough during operation.
•The temperature rise of the cleaning liquid caused by heaters or ultrasonic energy can result in steaming. Ensure
adequate ventilation at the environment of installation.
•Fluid must not get inside the unit. Wipe off any fluid which has slopped over and is leaking down the side walls as
soon as possible
•The items to be cleaned must not be placed directly on the bottom of the tank. Use a suitable cleaning basket.
•Never leave the ultrasonic cleaning unit unattended during operation.
•If the unit does not have to be ready for operation, disconnect it from the power supply (unplug it from mains).
•Never operate the unit if it has been damaged. Inspect the device and the power cord for outer damages
frequently. Repairs must only be carried out by the manufacturer.
•Observe the statutory regulations when disposing of the cleaning liquid and disposing the unit.

WARNING:
To avoid risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to supply mains with
protective earth.
Take special note on using the proper power cable and/or adapter for the available power outlet.
WARNING:
There is a danger of injury and burns through:
•Ultrasonic energy!
Never grab in the tank with your hands when the ultrasonic energy is switched on. Always
switch off the ultrasound when inserting or removing the items to be cleaned!
•Hot liquid!
•Hot surfaces!
•Toxic vapor!
During operation it is permitted to touch or to handle the unit with the handles or at the control panel
only.
After use the unit must cool down min. 30min prior to touching the housing.
WARNING:
For usage of the cleaning unit and handling with cleaning agent you generally have to wear adequate
personal protective equipment (PPE) corresponding to the standards:
•Safety gloves
•Safety glasses
•Ear protection
•Breathing protection
•Protective clothing
•Protective boots
WARNING:
No modification of this equipment is allowed.
Do not carry out any repair. In case of service, send the unit back to the manufacturer.

2. GENERAL
2.1. Intended purpose / lifetime
The USC ultrasonic cleaning units were especially developed for cleaning tasks in laboratory facilities of commercial
use.
The expected life time of the USC ultrasonic cleaning units depends basically on the quality of maintenance and
cleaning. With proper use, maintenance, cleaning and any necessary repairs a lifetime of five years can be expected.
This does not include consumables such as cable / connectors, cleaning baskets and similar.
Only accessories which are approved by or can be obtained from the manufacturer have to be used.
2.2. Cleaning liquid
The cleaning liquid which has to be used depends on the material of the items to be cleaned and the type of soiling.
Please contact the supplier of the cleaning agent.
3. START-UP
•Check if the mains connection, which must have a protective earth conductor, confirms with the specification on
the rating label of your device.
•Connect the power socket (circular connector at the cable) to the flange connector at the rear of the unit and lock
the connection by turning the cap nut. The cap nut must latch noticeably and needs to be disconnected in locked
condition with increased force only.
If the power cord is already installed to the unit, check if it is locked properly as described before.
•The ultrasonic cleaning unit must be located on a dry, hard and flat horizontal surface.
•Fill the cleaning tank with a suitable cleaning liquid depending on the application. The level must be at least 7/8 of
volume (approx. up to the seam).
Take note of the respective safety regulations for handling chemicals.
•Connect the ultrasonic cleaning unit to the mains, when the display lights up, the unit is ready for operation.
WARNING:
To avoid risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to supply mains with
protective earth.
Take special note on using the proper power cable and/or adapter for the available power outlet.
As a result of the design, the EU connector (CEE 7/7) fits mechanically into the DK socket outlet
(Denmark) but does not connect the protective earth conductor (PE).
Never use the EU connector in combination with DK socket outlets
DANGER TO LIFE AND LIMB!
Adapters are one-time mountable only and cannot be removed after applying to the connector.
Therefore be sure to mount the proper adapter.
WARNING:
The power plug is used to disconnect the unit from mains.
The used power outlet must be permanently accessible and must not be covered by the unit or any
other objects, so the mains plug can be unplugged at any time.

4. OPERATION
The units have a digital operator interface which allows comfortable setting and operation.
Depending on the version there are different configurations available:

DEGAS-function:
For degasification of the cleaning fluid the unit can be operated in a so-called DEGAS mode. The cleaning liquid will
be also degassed during standard cleaning operation but this can be considerably speeded up in the DEGAS mode.
With degassing the cleaning result during the following cleaning process is considerably more effective and uniform.
During the DEGAS mode, the ultrasound is automatically switched on and off in short intervals. This causes the
entrapped air to form into larger bubbles during the acoustic irradiation of the fluid. The bubbles can then rise freely to
the surface in the pauses between the acoustic irradiation.
4.1. Operating and display elements
Button 'Sonic / Ultraschall / Ultrasons'
With this button you can switch on and off the ultrasonic operation. The operating status 'Ultrasonic ON' is indicated
by the green light-emitting diode (LED) in this button.
Button 'Heater / Heizung / Chauffage' (TH, THD and THD/HF types only)
With this button you can switch on and off the liquid heater. The operating status 'Heating ON' is indicated by the
green LED in this button.
Button 'Degas / Dégazage' (THD and THD/HF types only)
With this button you can switch on and off the DEGAS mode (see description below). The operating status is
indicated by the green LED in this button.
Button Taste 'Select / Auswahl / Choix'
With this button the following operating parameters can be selected and set (time, temperature, power):

Display 'Time / Zeit / Durée' (two digits)
During ultrasonic switched off, the pre-selected cleaning time is shown in minutes in this display. When the
ultrasonic is switched on, the remaining cleaning time is shown and the decimal point in the display flashes, thus
indicating that the pre-selected cleaning time is counting down.
Display 'Temperature / Temperatur / Tempèrature' (two digit, TH, THD and THD/HF types only)
In cleaning mode, the current bath temperature is shown in degC in this display. If the pre-selected temperature has
not yet been reached, the decimal point in the display flashes; the bath is being heated. Once the pre-selected
temperature has been reached, the decimal point is steady. During the process 'Setting the bath temperature', the
target temperature for the cleaning bath is shown in the display.
Display 'Power / Leistung / Puissance' (single digit, THD and THD/HF types only)
The current set value of the ultrasonic power is shown in steps from 1-9 in this display. Step 9 corresponds to
maximum power (100%).
Setting the cleaning time
With ultrasonic switched off press the 'Select / Auswahl / Choix' button until the 'Time / Zeit / Durée' display flashes.
The desired cleaning time can be set in steps from 1 – 99 minutes with the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons.
The time pre-selection can be disabled by pressing the '-' button until two horizontal lines are shown in the display ('- -
').
Once the desired time has been set, release the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons and wait until the display stops flashing
(approx. 5 sec). The value is stored now.
Setting the bath temperature ('TH', 'THD' und 'THD/HF' types only)
With ultrasonic switched off press the 'Select / Auswahl / Choix' button until the 'Temperature / Temperatur /
Tempèrature' display flashes. The desired liquid temperature can be set up to 80degC with the '+' and '–' adjusting
buttons.
Once the desired temperature has been set, release the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons and wait until the display stops
flashing (approx. 5 sec). The value is stored now.
Setting the ultrasonic power ('THD' und 'THD/HF' types only)
The ultrasonic power can be set during ultrasonic on or off.
Ultrasonic 'OFF':
During ultrasonic switched off press the 'Select / Auswahl / Choix' button until the 'Power / Leistung / Puissance'
display flashes. The desired power can be set in steps from 1 – 9 with the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons (step 9 = max.
power).
Once the desired power is set, release the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons and wait until the display stops flashing
(approx. 5 sec). The value is stored now.
Ultrasonic 'ON':
During ultrasonic switched on press the 'Select / Auswahl / Choix' button until the 'Power / Leistung / Puissance'
display flashes. The desired power can be set in steps from 1 – 9 with the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons (step 9 = max.
power).
Once the desired power is set, release the '+' and '–' adjusting buttons and wait until the display stops flashing
(approx. 5 sec). The value is stored now.
Degassing the fluid (DEGAS, 'THD' und 'D/HF' types only)
In order to obtain an optimum cleaning process after the unit has been refilled, first of all the liquid should be
degassed. The cleaning result is considerably impaired by the solved gas bubbles (usually ambient air) in the liquid.
Ultrasonic vibrations dispense these gases.
In the DEGAS mode the unit is periodically switched on and off, the gas bubbles can raise out of the fluid in the OFF
period.

Degassing can be speeded up by adding a few drops of a surface-active agent (e.g. washing-up liquid) to the
cleaning fluid.
Most ultrasonic cleaning agents already contain a surface-active agent.
The degassing process does not have to be repeated when reusing the cleaning liquid.
Heating the cleaning bath (TH, 'THD' und 'THD/HF' types only)
If a specified bath temperature is required for the cleaning operation, the cleaning bath can be heated up to a pre-
selected temperature (see process 'Setting the bath temperature'). Cleaning is normally considerably more effective if
the cleaning fluid is warmed up.
WARNING:
Consider the temperature tolerance of the material to be cleaned!
4.2. Ultrasonic Cleaning
•Immerse the items to be cleaned in the cleaning bath the distance of the items from the bottom must be at least
20 mm (0.8 inches).
If required, use the cleaning basket which is available as an accessory.
•Set the required cleaning time, temperature and ultrasonic power for the cleaning process (if applicable).
The parameters 'required cleaning time' and 'ultrasonic power level' excessively depend on the cleaning fluid,
temperature, type and degree of soiling of the items requiring cleaning. The time can vary from a few seconds to
a few minutes.
The best combination of the parameters may have to be experimentally determined.
•Start the cleaning process by switching on the ultrasonic energy.
•After the cleaning process remove the items out of the liquid with suitable care. We recommend rinsing the parts
in clean water.
•Disconnect the ultrasonic cleaning unit from mains if the unit is not needed.
WARNING:
Please note that the bath temperature rises considerably with duration of the ultrasonic operation.
For safety reasons the heater and the ultrasonic energy are switched off if the bath temperature
exceeds approx. 90degC (194F), an error message appears in the display.
Never put the items to be cleaned directly on the bottom of the tank.
Never clean too many items at once, the cleaning result can deteriorate.
4.3. Emptying the tank
If the cleaning result becomes worse or if the cleaning liquid has got contaminated, the cleaning liquid should be
replaced.
Prior to any emptying or cleaning the unit must be disconnected from mains.
For this purpose the units USC 900, USC 1200, USC 1700, USC 2100 and USC 2600 have a drain on the rear side
of the unit.

4.4. Accessories
•Tank cover (stainless steel)
To prevent evaporation of the tank contents and odor nuisance.
•Cleaning basket (stainless steel)
For carrying the items to be cleaned. The basket can be suspended in the cleaning tank and it also
can be placed on the edge of the tank with the handles for draining.
•Cover with openings for beakers (different sizes)
•easy cleaning of small parts
•less needs of cleaning solvent
•cleaning in different cleaning solvents
The ultrasonic energy is coupled inside the filled beaker by the liquid around through the glass. Fill
the tank with water and add a surface-active agent (e.g. washing-up liquid).
5. MAINTENANCE
WARNING:
The ultrasonic cleaning unit needs low maintenance.
Regard following notes:
•Prior to any emptying or cleaning the unit must be disconnected from mains.
•Keep the device clean. Wipe the housing frequently with a damp cloth. Remove cleaning agent residues
immediately.
•Ensure that the cleaning liquid does not soil the housing during cleaning.
Clean, replace and dispose the cleaning liquid in accordance with the supplier's recommendations.
•Avoid scratching the inner tank surface, this accelerates cavitation (erosion). Ensure the items to be cleaned have
no direct contact with the bottom or inner sidewalls of the tank and try to keep none or only small amounts of
pollution on the bottom of the cleaning tank. If necessary, the cleaning liquid should be drained off prematurely, so
the tank can be cleaned.
•Check the unit and the power cord for damages frequently and prior to any use.
A visibly damaged unit or cable must not be put in operation and must be disconnected from the mains.
Do not carry out repairs yourself. Send the unit to the manufacturer for servicing or repair.
•There are any parts to maintain or which have to be changed by the user inside the unit.
If the power cord is damaged, it can be removed by unlocking the cap nut (circular plug at rear side of unit). The
power cord must be replaced with the manufacturer's original part only.

6.5. Persistency of the front overlay to solvents
The front overlay is based on a polyester foil with a biaxial alignment and has therefore a higher persistence against
solvents compared with e.g. polycarbonate or PVC. It is stronger and more durable than other foils generally used for
plastic foil keyboards and front panels.

6.6. Error messages
The ultrasonic cleaning units have an error detection system which shows the following messages in the two most left
displays in case of an error:
•nC or E0
In this case, an internal error occurred.
Disconnect the ultrasonic cleaning unit from mains by unplugging the power connector and reconnect
it. Restart the cleaning operation, if the error message still occurs, the device must be sent to the
manufacturer for servicing.
•E1
In this case, an error has been detected in the ultrasonic generator or the generator control system.
Disconnect the ultrasonic cleaning unit from mains by unplugging the power connector and reconnect
it. Restart the cleaning operation, if the error message still occurs, the device must be sent to the
manufacturer for servicing.
•E2
In this case, the maximum permissible bath temperature of 90degC has exceeded. The heater and
the ultrasonic operation are automatically switched off.
Press the button 'Select / Auswahl / Choix' to quit the error condition and wait minimum 5 minutes
before restarting the cleaning operation.
•E3
In this case, the temperature protection of the ultrasonic generator has automatically switched off the
unit.
Please check that there is enough liquid in the cleaning tank (7/8 of the volume), the ambient
temperature is in the specified range and there is sufficient ventilation of the unit. Press the button
'Select / Auswahl / Choix' to quit the error condition and wait minimum 5 minutes before restarting the
cleaning operation.
