Vielen Dank für den Kauf des Gekko
Arpeggio. Dieses Gerät ist in der Lage,
auf denkbar einfache Weise die
Soundpalette und Spielmöglich-keiten
jedes MIDI-Instruments zu erweitern.
Um eine sichere Funktion Ihres
Gekkos und des verwendeten MIDI-
Equipments zu gewährleisten bitten
wir Sie, diese Anleitung durchzulesen
und den Gekko, wie aus den
umseitigen Skizzen hervorgeht, in Ihr
MIDI-Setup zu integrieren.
Ein Arpeggiator ist ein Gerät, das einen
eingehenden Akkord in seine
Einzeltöne auftrennt und diese dann
rhythmisch nach einem festgelegten
Muster wiederholt. Der Gekko bietet
Ihnen genau diese Funktion, wobei
sich Wiederholgeschwindigkeit,
Notenlänge und Tonumfang der
erzeugten Noten in weitem Umfang
einstellen lassen.
Schließen Sie den Gekko wie umseitig
beschrieben für die gewünschte
Anwendung an. Die Leuchtdiode des
Gerätes blinkt in kurzen Abständen.
Sie müssen nun zunächst eine Oktave
Ihres Keyboards für die Steuerung des
Gekkos reservieren. Da diese dann
nicht mehr zum Spielen zur Verfügung
steht, sollten Sie einen unbenutzen
Bereich weit unten oder oben auf der
Tastatur verwenden. Drücken Sie
zunächst die Taste des Gekkos und
halten Sie sie gedrückt. Spielen Sie
nun eine Taste auf der Tastatur.
Wählen Sie dazu möglichst ein C,
damit die beiliegende Tastatur-
schablone passt. Lassen Sie die Taste
des Gekkos wieder los. Das Gerät ist
nun aktiviert und die LED leuchtet.
Die Oktave oberhalb der gedrückten
Taste stellt nun die Steuerzone für den
Arpeggiator dar. Anhand der
Schablone, die Sie an Ihrer Tastatur
befestigen können, erkennen Sie
Zuordnung der Tasten zu den
einzelnen Funktionen. Spielen Sie nun
einen gehaltenen Akkord auf Ihrer
Tastatur. Achten Sie darauf, daß alle
Noten außerhalb des soeben
festgelegten Steuerbereichs liegen.
Wenn alle Anschlüsse und
Einstellungen Ihrer Geräte korrekt sind,
hören Sie nun eine rhythmische
Tonfolge (Arpeggio), die aus den
Noten des gehaltenen Akkords besteht.
Mit Hilfe der im Steuerbereich
liegenden Tasten können Sie nun
einzelne Eigenschaften des Arpeggios
beeinflussen. Beachten Sie bitte, daß
Sie für die Funktionen Alternate,
1 Octave, Legato, 1/32 und
120 BPM zwei Tasten gleichzeitig
betätigen müssen.
Hinweis: Sollte der Gekko nicht wie
gewünscht funktionieren, kann dies
am „Running Status“-Signal des
Keyboards liegen. Betätigen Sie in
diesem Fall kurz das Modulationsrad
oder das Haltepedal.
Arpeggio down: Alle Noten werden
in absteigender Folge erzeugt.
Arpeggio up: Alle Noten werden in
aufsteigender Folge erzeugt.
Alternate: Alle Noten werden
abwechselnd in auf- und absteigender
Folge erzeugt.
Octave down: Erweitert den Ton-
umfang um eine Oktave nach unten.
Octave up: Erweitert den Tonumfang
um eine Oktave nach oben.
1 Octave: Setzt den Tonumfang auf
eine Oktave.
Gate half: Setzt die Notenlänge auf
die Hälfte des Notenwertes.
Gate double: Setzt die Notenlänge
auf das Doppelte des Notenwertes.
Legato: Setzt die Notenlänge auf den
Notenwert (entspricht gebundener
Spielweise).
Clock 1/8: Setzt die Wiederhol-
geschwindigkeit auf eine 8-tel Note.
Clock 1/16: Setzt die Wiederhol-
geschwindigkeit auf eine 16-tel Note.
Clock 1/32: Setzt die Wiederhol-
geschwindigkeit auf eine 32-tel Note.
Tempo down: Vermindert die
Geschwindigkeit in 1 BPM-Schritten.
Tempo up: Erhöht die
Geschwindigkeit in 1 BPM-Schritten.
120 BPM: Setzt die Geschwindigkeit
auf 120 BPM.
Hold Mode: Schaltet den Hold-Modus
ein und aus. Bei aktiviertem Hold-
Modus erklingt das Arpeggio weiter,
auch wenn der Akkord losgelassen
wird. Sobald ein neuer Akkord
gegriffen wird, wechselt das Arpeggio
auf die neuen Töne.
Der sogenannte „Super-Hotkey“ bietet
die Möglichkeit, den zur Steuerung
reservierten Tastaturbereich nur bei
Bedarf einzublenden. Dadurch
„verlieren“ Sie lediglich eine einzelne
Taste, die dann zum Spielen nicht
mehr zur Verfügung steht. Drücken Sie
zunächst die Taste des Gekkos und
halten Sie sie gedrückt. Spielen Sie
nun nacheinander zwei Tasten auf der
Tastatur. Lassen Sie die Taste des
Gekkos wieder los. Die erste der
gewählten Tasten definiert den „Super-
Hotkey“. Die zweite stellt wie zuvor
beschrieben den Anfang des
Steuerbereichs dar. Wenn Sie nun den
Arpeggiator einstellen möchten,
müssen Sie zunächst den „Super-
Hotkey“ gedrückt halten und
anschließend die entsprechende Taste
zur Steuerung betätigen.
Durch einmaliges, kurzes Betätigen
der Gekko-Taste läßt sich der
Arpeggiator deaktivieren. Die Leucht-
diode erlischt dann. Ein erneutes
Betätigen schaltet ihn wieder ein.
Ein Doppelklick (schnelles,
zweimaliges Betätigen) der
Gekko- Taste im aktiven
Zustand sendet einen All-
Notes-Off Befehl; sinnvoll wenn
zum Beispiel einen Notenhänger
autritt.
Das MIDI-Netz ist in der Lage
maximal 1 Gerät mit Strom zu
versorgen!
Thank you for purchasing the Gekko
Arpeggio. With its wide range of
sound-manipulating options, this easy-
to-handle device enhances every type
of MIDI instrument. To ensure your
Gekko and the connected MIDI
equipment function as intended,
please read this manual carefully and
integrate the Gekko in your MIDI
setup as depicted in the illustration on
the next page.
An arpeggiator is a device that breaks
an incoming chord down into a single
note line and repeats the line
rhythmically in accordance with a
preset program. This feature is the
Gekko's primary function. You can
determine the repetition rate, duration
of the notes and the tonal range of the
generated notes.
Connect the Gekko as depicted for the
desired application. The device LED
will flash rapidly. First you must
reserve an octave of your keyboard for
controlling the Gekko. This area of the
keyboard can no longer be used for
conventional playing, so you should
choose the dusty end of the keyboard,
i.e. the lowest or highest octave
available. Press the button located on
the Gekko and hold it down. Now
press a single key on your keyboard.
Play a C-note so that the included
template matches as intended. Now
release the Gekko button. The device
is now activated and the LED
illuminates continually. The octave
above the note you played is now
defined as the control zone for the
arpeggiator. The template identifies the
different functions and the
corresponding key that activates a
given function. You can attach it to
your keyboard if desired. Now play a
sustained chord on your keyboard.
Ensure all the notes of the chord are
outside the range of the control
octave. If you have connected the
devices correctly and dialed in the
proper settings, you will now hear a
rhythmic single note line (arpeggio)
consisting of the notes of the chord
you are currently playing. Now you
can use the keys within the control
octave to manipulate the arpeggio.
Please note that you must press two
keys simultaneously to activate the
following functions: Alternate,
1 Octave, Legato, 1/32 and
120 BPM.
Note: If the Gekko does not work
as expected, the „running status“
signal of the keyboard can be
the cause. Turn the Modwheel or
press the sustain pedal in such a case.
Arpeggio down: All notes are
generated in descending order.
Arpeggio up: All notes are generated
in ascending order.
Alternate: All notes are generated
alternating in ascending and
descending order.
Octave down: Extends the range by
the next lower octave.
Octave up: Extends the range by the
next higher octave.
1 Octave: Sets the tonal range to one
octave.
Gate half: Sets the duration of the
note to half the note's value.
Gate double: Sets the duration of the
note to twice the note's value.
Legato: Sets the duration of the note
to the note’s value.
Clock 1/8: Sets the repetition rate to
an 8th note.
Clock 1/16: Sets the repetition rate to
a 16th note.
Clock 1/32: Sets the repetition rate to
a 32th note.
Tempo down: Reduces the tempo in
1-BPM increments.
Tempo up: Increases the tempo in 1-
BPM increments.
120 BPM: Sets the tempo to 120 BPM.
Hold Mode: Switches the Hold Mode
on and off. When Hold Mode is
activated, the arpeggio continues to
play after you release the chord. Once
you play another chord, the notes of
this chord are arpeggiated.
The so-called „Super HotKey“ lets you
access the octave you reserved for
controlling the Gekko. With this
feature, you sacrifice only a single key
that cannot be played in the
conventional manner. For this
purpose, press and hold the button on
the Gekko. Now play two keys
successively on your keyboard.
Release the Gekko button. The first
key you pressed defines the Super
HotKey. The second key defines the
control zone in the same manner as
described previously. Now if you want
to change arpeggiator settings, you
must first press and hold the Super
HotKey before pressing the desired
control key.
You can deactivate the Gekko by
pressing the Gekko button briefly. The
LED no longer illuminates. To
reactivate the Gekko, simply press the
button again.
A double click (press twice briefly,
in rapid succession) on the
Gekko button sends an All
Notes Off command. This
is a useful feature when for
instance you encounter a
stuck note.
The MIDI circuit can supply power to
no more than one
device!

Wenn Sie Ihren Gekko "live" verwenden möchten, dann verkabeln Sie ihn so, wie in der
nebenstehenden Zeichnung dargestellt.
Es ist wichtig, daß bei Ihrem Keyboard der MIDI Sende- und Empfangskanal auf den
gleichen Wert eingestellt sind.
If you choose to use your Gekko for live applications, connect it as depicted in the
adjacent illustration. Ensure you set your keyboard to the same channel for both MIDI
Send and MIDI Receive.
Wenn Sie die mit Ihrem Gekko erzeugten Noten mit einem
Sequenzer aufzeichnen wollen, sollten Sie die Verkabelung
grundsätzlich wie in der linken Abbildung vornehmen. Sollte
ihr Sequenzer über mehrere MIDI Inputs / Outputs verfügen,
oder sollten Sie gar mit einer MIDI Patch Bay arbeiten, werden
Sie sicherlich eine komfortablere Art der MIDI Verkabelung
vornehmen.
If you want to record the notes you are generating via your
Gekko to a sequencer, connect the devices as depicted in the
illustration to the left. If your sequencer features several MIDI
Inputs/Outputs or you have a MIDI Patch Bay available, you
can of course elect to use a more comfortable connection
option.
Wenn Sie schon bestehende Musik aus Ihrem Sequenzer mit
dem Gekko bearbeiten und gleichzeitig auf eine neue Spur
Ihres Sequenzers aufzeichnen möchten, ist die rechte
Verkabelungs-Skizze die richtige für Sie.
If you want to use pre-recorded music from your sequencer,
manipulate it via your Gekko, and then record it to another
track on your sequencer, use the connection scheme depicted
in the illustration to the right.
