1.1Introduction

AirPurifyingRespirator(PAPR)system.AvailablewiththesystemisaselectionARCONE®brand
electronicAutoDarkeningFilters(lenses).SeetheenclosedRespiratorApprovalLabelfora
completelistoflensassemblies.
TheARCONE®AIRPLUS®PAPRsystemblowsasupplyoffilteredairoverthewelder’sface,
creatingaprotectivepositivepressureinsidethefacesealthatkeepsoutharmfulparticulatesand
mist.ThePAPRsystemisengineeredforsafety,function,andlightweightcomfort.Toensureyour
safetyandcompletesatisfactionwiththeARCONE®AIRPLUS®PAPRsystem,pleasereadthese

1.2OperatingPrinciples
TheARCONE®AIRPLUS®PAPRsystemisusedinanenvironmentrequiringprotectionagainst
harmfulparticlesandmist.UsedinconjunctionwithanARCONE®AutoDarkeningFilterand
weldinghelmet,iteliminateswastedmotionanddiscomfortassociatedwithwelding.Youwillreceive
aconstantflowoffreshair,whichwillallowyoutocomfortablyremainsafeinyourworkenvironment
foralongerperiodoftime,andisofparticularbenefitwhereworkingconditionsarehotorhumid.
TheARCONE®AIRPLUS®7800mAhbatteryprovidespowerfortwo(2)eight(8)hourshiftsonlow
fan.Theserechargeablebatteriesareencasedindurablelightweightplasticandattachsecurelyto
theblowerunit.Thechargingtimeforafullydischargedbatteryis57hours.Thebatterymaybe
receivedpartiallychargedandshouldbefullychargedbeforeuse.

TheARCONE®AIRPLUS®HEfilterisdesignedtobeusedwiththeblowerunit.Makesureyour
PAPRsystemisfittedwithafilterappropriatetotheapplicationandselectedbyacompetentperson
withafullknowledgeofrespiratoryhazards,andtheirconcentrationsthatareapplicableinthe
workplace.Toensureadequateprotection,itisessentialthattheblowerunitiscorrectlyconfigured

3.1RecordKeeping
Allcomponentsshouldbecheckeddailywhenusedregularly.Regardlessoftheusage,each
respiratorsystemrequiresadocumentedinspectionandreplacementprogram.Atrainedand
competentpersonwithfullknowledgeofrespiratoryequipmentshouldcarrythisout.Recordsshould
bemaintainedthroughoutthelifeoftheequipment.RegulatoryGuidancecanbefound
inthefollowingdocuments:OSHA29CFR1910Part134andANSIZ88.2.
UseonlyARCONE®AIRPLUS®PAPRcomponentsandreplacementpartsmanufacturedby
ARCONE®andapprovedbyNIOSHforusewiththerespiratorsystem.Inspectallcomponentsofthe
respiratorsystemduringcleaning,andbeforeandaftereachuseforsignsofwear,tearordamage
thatmightreducethedegreeofprotectionoriginallyprovided.Respiratorsusedbymorethanone
personmustbecleaned,inspected,andsanitizedaftereachuse.Ifnotcleaned,contaminationmay
causeillnessordisease.Allowcomponentstoairdrybeforereassembling.
3.2Cleaning
PAPR
1.ALWAYSINSPECTyourARCONE®AIRPLUS®PAPRsystembeforeeachuseandafter
cleaning.CleantheexternalsurfacesofthePAPRsystemwithasoftclothdampenedinamild
solutionofcleanwaterandmilddetergent.Neveruseabrasivecleaners.During
cleaning,ensurethatNOwaterisallowedtoenterintotheblowerunitorbatterypackasthiscould
damagetheblowerorbatteryinternalparts.Neverimmersetheunitinliquid.
2.DetachtheBreathingTubefromtheBlowerunitandtheHeadtop(Section4.4),andwipe
theconnectionsites.
3.DetachtheFaceSealfromtheHeadtopbeforecleaning(Section4.5).Handwashinamild
solutionofcleanwaterandmilddetergent.AirdrytheFaceSealthenreapplyafireretardantspray
(Fig.20)andallowtheFaceSealtoairdrybeforereattachingtotheHeadtop.
4.Allowallcomponentstodryawayfromdirectheat.
Sparkarrestor
RemovesparkarrestorfromHEfilter.DonotattempttocleanwhileinstalledonHEfilter.Usea
vacuumtoremoveparticlesfromthewiremesh.Anylonbrushmaybeused.Avoidcarbonsteel
brushesorsteelwool,theseleaveparticlesbehindthatcauserust.Replaceifdamagedorifany
rustappears.

3.3Inspection
1.Beforeeachuseandaftercleaning(Section3.2),inspecttheindividualpartsandensurethatall
componentsandconnectionsitesarecleanandingoodcondition.
2.Inspectfordamagessuchasholes,cracks,andscratchesonallparts.Ifindoubtofeffective
respiratoryperformancereplacethepartswithonlyARCONE®brandapprovedpartsforthissystem.
3.Additionally,inspectthefollowing:
a.Blowerunit:Buttonfunction.Replaceblowerifdamaged.
b.BreathingTube:
•Oringstate.Replaceifworn/cut,torn,orifindoubtastocondition.
•Checkforholesorsplitting.Whenindoubt,replacetheBreathingTube.
•NEVERpatchtheBreathingTube.
c.FaceSeal:ensurethattheFaceSealhasnotlostitselasticityandthattherearenotears
orholes.ReplaceifindoubtastotheconditionoftheFaceSeal.
d.WaistBelt:ensuretheclipsecurelysnapstogether.
DonotcleantheHEfilterorthefoamprefilterbyanymeans
includingforcedair.Doingsowilldamagethefiltersandvoidthe
BlowerUnitwarranty.ChangetheHEfilterafter40hoursofuseor
whenproperairflowcannotbemaintained.
