Installation Precautions
You must read all of the written material and follow all of the precautions and directions before beginning an
installation. All existing local and state plumbing codes must be followed.
• OperationPressureRange:20to100psi(140to690kPa)
• OperatingTemperatureRange:40°to100°F(4°to38°C)
• Forcoldwatersupplylineinstallationonly
• Donotlocateunitindirectsunlight.Protecttheunitfromfreezing.
• Chemicalsolventsshouldnotbeusedtocleantheunit.Onlywarmwaterwithmildsoapmaybeused,rinsing
afterwards with clean water.
• ThreadsshouldbesealedusingonlyTeon®tape. Do not use thread sealing compounds or paste.
• Usingatorchnearplastichousingscancausedamagetothelter.Sweatjointsmustbemadebeforeattach-
ingtothelterhead.
• Ifthewaterpipingisusedasanelectricalground,thenajumperwiremustbeinstalledaroundthelter.
• Donotusewithwaterthatismicrobiologicallyunsafeorofunknownqualitywithoutadequatedisinfection
beforeoraftertheunit.Unitscertiedforcystreductionmaybeusedondisinfectedwatersthatmaycontain
lterablecysts.
Warning:Youmustconsultawaterqualityprofessionaltotestyourwaterandrecommendanynecessary
treatmentforbacteria,chemicals,orotherpossiblecontaminantsnotremovedbythislter.Thiscartridgewill
loseitseffectivenessovertimeandmustbechangedinaccordancewiththeprintedinstructions.

Connections
Theinletandoutletportsonthelterhousingareprominentlymarkedwitheitherthewordsorwitharrowsshowing
thedirectionofow.Whenmakingtheconnections,makesurethattheowpathisfollowedcorrectly.
StandardmodelsareprovidedwithNPTpipethreadportsasstatedontheboxorontheproductlabel.When
adaptingtheltertootherpipesizes,thoseadaptingttingsmustbeobtainedfromlocalsources.
Installthelterwhereitwillnotbehitorsubjectedtodirectsunlight,freezing,orotherpotentialabuse.Afterturning
offthesystemwaterpressureanddrainingthesystem,cutoutalengthofpipethatisthelengthofthelterplus
thenecessaryadaptorttings.Usemoderatetorquewhentighteningthettingstoavoidcrackingthelterhead.
Filter Start-Up Procedure
Putthecorrectcartridgeinthelter.CartridgesmaybeobtainedfromyourBlakeWaterSystemsdealer.Secure
thesumptothelterheadbyscrewingtheringnutontotheheadngertight.Ifneeded,carefullyusethewrench
provided.
For valve-in-head housings, models: BVC75 & BVC100
Pressurizetheunitafteritissealed.TurnthevalveknobfromtheONpositiontotheBYPASSposition2-3•
times,oruntilasmallamountofwaterescapesfromtheventunderneaththeknob.Thisventsexcessairfrom
the housing.
SetthevalveknobintheONpositionfornormaloperation.•
Checkforleaksandcorrectifnecessary.Flushtheunitforfteenminutestopurgethelterofairanddebris.•
Operation
For valve-in-head housings, models: BVC75 & BVC100
Valve-in-Headmodelsofferthreepositionsforeaseinoperation:
ONPosition:Thisisthestandardoperatingmodeforthelterinservice.•
BYPASSPosition:Usedtoallowwatertobypassacloggedcartridgetemporarilywhilechangingacartridge.•
OFFPosition:Thisshutsoffowthroughthelterwhenchangingthecartridgeorwheneverowmustbe•
stopped.Donotleaveinthispositionformorethan48hours.
Filter Cartridge Replacement
Changethelterwhen:
Thewaterowdropsduetoclogging.•
Theodororoff-tastereturnsduetothelterreachingitscapacity.•
Aftersixmonthsorwheneveritsefciencyhasdecreased.•
Cartridge Change Procedure
For valve-in-head housings, models: BVC75 & BVC100
RotatethevalveknobtoBYPASSallowingthewatertobypassthecartridgeandventthewaterfromthe•
sump.
Separatethesumpfromthelterheadsbyunscrewingtheringnuttotheleft.Usethewrenchprovidedif•
necessary.
Removetheusedcartridge,inspecttheo-ringforanydamage.Wipetheo-ringcleanandlubricatewithsili-•
cone grease to help future replacement of the cartridge.
