As excited as you and your dog are to begin using your WAG Boarding Steps, there are a few important actions to take
prior to use and for safe and enjoyable ongoing ownership.
Assembly Overview
Assembly
Tools Required: 1/2" socket driver, 3/16" hex driver
Your new WAG Boarding Steps come partially assembled from the factory. Some hardware is inserted in the component
where it will be required. and pre-treated with ECK® Corrosion Protection Compound which also serves as an anti-seizing
agent. Carefully unpack contents of shipping carton to avoid damage or loss of hardware.

Washer (4)
Lock Nut (2)
Detent Ring Pin (2)
Installation
Remove the Detent Ring Pins (2) from each side of the Step
Assembly. Carefully unfold the Upper and Lower Step
Assemblies on a flat surface and re-insert the Detent Ring Pins
in the middle of the assembly to lock it in the straight position.
Attach the Angle Pivot Plates to each side of the Upper Step
Assembly using the hardware provided in the holes it was
shipped in; top four (4) holes in the Runners. The screw heads
should be on the outside and the washers and nylon locking
nuts should be on the inside of the assembly. Tighten securely.
Attach the Pivot Mounts to the Angle Pivot Plates using the Slic
Pins™ and washers. The Pivot Mounts can be mounted on the
inside or the outside of the plates (inside shown). The pins
should be inserted through the side plates first, then the pivot
mounts, and finally the washers. Make sure the pins are
inserted all the way so that the plunger on the Slic Pin is raised
and restraining the washer. To remove the assembly, depress
the pin plungers and remove the pins and washers from the
pivot mounts.
Determine the desired mounting location. Lower the unit into the water and position the assembly so that the
90-degree corner of the Angle Pivot Plates is against the dock edge. Mark the location of the four (4) Pivot
Mount holes on the mounting surface. Remove the assembly to prepare the surface. Mounting options include
5/16" through bolts, lag screws or concrete anchors. This hardware is not provided because the mounting
surface substrate varies by customer (e.g., concrete, masonry, wood, plastic lumber, etc.). Ensure the step
assembly is not twisted and is at approximately a 45-degree angle (steps level). Secure and test the assembly for
stability before allowing your dog to use. It is recommended that someone be in the water adjacent to the
assembly during the first few times the dog uses them. Never let your dog swim unsupervised. The unit can be
pivoted out of the water and folded in half using the Detent Ring Pins or removed from the Pivot Mounts for
storage. If you choose to add a rope to assist in pivoting the assembly out of the water, make sure it is not in a
location that the dog can get tangled in it.
Use/Training
It is highly recommended that you train your dog where you can stand or float to the side as your dog gets used to WAG
Boarding Steps. Some dogs may try to wrap their legs around them like a tree trunk or reach up trying to pull
themselves up and stick their leg between the steps. Having your dog approach them straight on and spotting them to
keep their legs under their chest (like they do stairs at home) will get them comfortable with this new thing they have
never seen before. Once they are used to it, they will learn to come in from the side and do it with large objects in their
mouth. The steps can be pivoted completely out of the water or removed when not needed, but make sure they are in
place when the dog may enter the water. Periodically check for damage to the equipment and your dock. Remember,
WAG Boarding Steps are for dog use only.
Care and Maintenance
Your new WAG Boarding Steps are constructed from high-quality materials that should provide years of enjoyment.
•Periodically check mounting platform for damage. Repair as necessary.
•All fasteners are stainless steel (except step rivets and washers which are aluminum). Check for loose or missing
fasteners prior to use and tighten or replace as necessary.
•The plastic parts are formulated for outdoor use and have good impact resistance. Periodically check for
cracked parts and replace as necessary. Remove your step assembly when not in use and store out of direct
sunlight for maximum life.
