Horizontal Adjustment (centre of gravity)
With the Enigma XSSP and XSTS models we have
incorporated features that enable you to adjust the
centre of gravity.
XSSP –Horizontal adjustment is made by
moving the
axle pin into different positions within the axle plate
into present slot positions. (deluxe models only).
XSTS –
Horizontal adjustment is made by removing
the rear wheel brackets using an allen key and spanner.
The brackets can then be reinst
alled using the predrilled
holes on frame. Always use new nylock nuts after
adjustment
For greater stability (ie. In elevating legrest/amputee
situations) the wheels should be set back in the furthest
position. This will also increase the turning pressure.
Moving the axle position forward will lighten the front
of the chair and make it easier to turn.
WARNING –
if you set the wheels forward, in
certain situations there is an increased risk of the
wheelchair tipping back. Anti –
tip devices
(available via d
ealers) should be fitted in these
situations.
Vertical Adjustment (deluxe models only)
XSSP –
Adjustment is made on height by releasing and
removing the allen key bolts, nylock nuts, nylon bushes
and connecting brackets and relocating them for axle
pin relocation in the pre-
drilled alternative location
holes. Often this is done for the purpose of creating a
forward or backward tilt which will affect the push and
balance of the wheelchair. If adjustment has been made
in height, the front castor angle should
also be changed.
Always use new nylock nuts after adjustment.
Castor Adjustment
4
There are a number of castor options that can be fitted,
consult your dealer for details on any spe
cial castor
options that you may have had fitted. Inbuilt into our
castor system is an adjustment via off centre bolts
which set the angle that the castor is positioned at.
The castor pots can be reverse fitted in order to reduce
the turning circle by sho
rtening the wheel base length.
Remember to ensure that by setting the castor pots in a
forward position you do not make the castors clash with
the footrest.
Always use new nylock nuts after adjustment.
(This feature is only available on the deluxe models)
Quick Release Wheel Mechanism
5
In order to make the wheelchair as light and
tran
sportable as possible our chairs have the facility to
remove the rear wheels without the need for tools. With
one hand holding up the wheelchair frame, the other
hand should grip the centre of the wheel, push the
centre pin inwards and in the same movement
pull the
wheel hub away from the frame. This should have
successfully removed the wheel. To put the wheels
back the procedure should be reversed. If the quick
release pins appear to be reluctant to go back into place,
press the pin with the palm of your h
and to push it back
home. Check that the wheel is securely fastened before
use,by pulling the wheel and ensuring there is no
sideways movement.
Folding Back Mechanism
6
The backrest has an inbuilt half folding back which has
been designed so that the wheelchair will fit into small
spaces by reducing the push handle height. In order
to
fold down the backrest, push in the black lever whilst
pulling the handle down. This operation should be
repeated for the other handle.
To put the backrest back into position , lift both handles
together and the folding mechanism will lock back
automatically.
Do not push down on the push handles to raise the front
wheels as this may result in damage. To raise the front
wheels use the stepper tube as described in point 11.
Brake Adjustment
7
Adjustment is made to the brakes by loosening the allen
key bolt heads and by sliding the brake unit along the
frame. The brakes will have
to be adjusted if the rear
wheel position has been altered.
Please refer to the photograph for see which screws
to
loosen. Do not loosen any other bolts.
Seat Canvas Adjustment
8
You are able to adjust the tension of the seat sling by
loosening the seat rail screws and re-
adjusting the
velcro position. The seat rail screws must then be re-
tightened. (This feature is only available on deluxe
models)
Legrest Adjustment
9
For optimum comfort it is important to atta
in the
correct leg position. The footrests have been designed
so that they can be extended into a number of fixed
positions by releasing and adjusting the allen head bolts
and nuts. This adjusts into a number of different desired
positions.
Folding the Wheelchair
10
The Enigma wheelchair has been designed with an easy
fold mechanism. To fold the chair, ensure that the
legrests are locked in position and that the plastic
footplates are flipped up. Rel
ease the back canvas
velcro base from the seat and then by holding the front
and rear edge of the seat sling pull the seat in an
upwards motion. The wheelchair will naturally fold up.
Using the Stepper Tube
11
Use the stepper tube to raise the front castors (when
mounting a kerb for example). To use, push down on
the stepper tube with a foot. Do not raise the front
castors by pushing down on
the push handles, as this
could result in damage to the wheelchair.

restraints for the front of the wheelchair,
b)
Koller Engineering karabiner rear restraints
for the rear of the wheelchair,
c) Koller Engineering 3-
point harness for the
occupant restraint.
The lap belt should be worn across the front of th
e
pelvis, with the webbing fed between the
backposts and armrest.
The upper torso belt should be worn over the
shoulder. The belt should be worn as firm as
possible without being uncomfortable. Ensure the
webbing is not twisted.
For more information on r
estraints please contact
Medicare Technology. Below is a diagram illustrating
the recommended positions for the restraints. The
securement points for the restraints are marked on the
wheelchair using the symbol below.

The
Enigma aluminium XS wheelchair comes
complete with pneumatic tyres. The tyres should be
inflated with a manually operated pump and use a
standard car tyre air valve. Note that under no
circumstances should a powered or compressed air
pump should be used.
For optimum performance, the tyres should be inflated
to the following maximum pressures:
•55psi (4.0 bar) for 24” self propel wheels
•40psi (2.8 bar) for 12 ½” transit wheels
The Enigma aluminium XS wheelchair range is also
available with solid tyres an
d mag wheels. For more
information on these please contact Medicare
Technology.
Using the Wheelchair in a Vehicle
12
The Enigma Aluminium XS wheelchair has been
tested to Wheelchair Crash Test standard ISO 7176/19
using restraints from Koller Engineering.
Wherever possible the wheelchair occupant should use
the vehicle’s fitted seats and the wheelchair should be
folded away and placed safely in the luggage
compartment of the vehicle or restrained.
If it is not feasible to transfer to the vehicle’s sea
t then
the Enigma aluminium XS wheelchair may be used as
a chair whilst the vehicle is moving with the necessary
restraints and with the wheelchair facing the front of
the vehicle. Medicare Technology recommends that
the following types of restraints be used:
