Song Meter SM4 Acoustic Recorder
The smallest and lightest dual-channel, weatherproof acoustic recorder available.
The new Song Meter SM4 features two built-in microphones, innovative scheduling
tools, large data storage and low power consumption – a unique combination of
features that provide the longest deployment times of any acoustic recorder available.
A new generation of microphones. The SM4 features entirely new, built-in microphones that create higher quality
recordings than those from all previous Song Meter recorders. In addition to its built-in microphones, the SM4
includes two microphone ports – giving you the flexibility to record additional data from a new SMM-A2 cabled
acoustic microphone, and/or hydrophone
Two channels for more recording flexibility. If you need to record two sources of audio at the same time, take
advantage of the SM4’s dual channel feature. Record in stereo or mono using the built-in microphones, or connect
one or two cabled microphone/hydrophones. Adding additional runs of cable to the external microphone gives
you the ability to capture audio from far-off wildlife such as birds in the forest canopy, or frogs at a nearby pond.
The longest deployment times of any recorder. The SM4 features new power circuitry that significantly increases
deployment time over the SM3. In Sleep Mode, between scheduled recordings, the SM4 uses almost no power,
allowing it to remain idle for months – meaning longer deployments, and fewer trips into the field.
Easy scheduling. The SM4’s new Quick Start menu and Scheduler feature
are an industry first. The SM4 comes with out-of-the box recording programs;
including daytime, nighttime, and continuous recording schedules. Simply
choose schedule and press the Start button. The SM4’s new Scheduler fea-
tures makes it easy to create custom schedules that suit your exact needs.
More than a terabyte of data storage capacity. The SM4 has two SD card
slots that accept SDHC and SDXC cards. When fitted with two 512GB cards,
the SM4 can store over a terabyte of data. In the future, when higher capacity
cards come to market, the SM4 will store even more.

Song Meter SM4 Acoustic Recorder
The smallest and lightest dual-channel, weatherproof acoustic recorder available.
The cabled SMM-A2 acoustic microphone is
completely weatherproof and can be deployed
away from the recorder using multiple lengths
of additional cable.
The SM4 recorder can also be
used with an available hydro-
phone, the SM3-H1, for making
underwater recordings. The
hydrophone ships on a 20
meter cable and attaches to the
same connectors as the cabled
microphones.
The GPS option is a valuable, time-saving
tool for researchers who have large cov-
erage areas with the need to synchronize
multiple recorders.*
