Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of The WirieAP Upgrade Kit!
We truly believe that The WirieAP is the best equipment you can install on your boat or RV to increase
your ability to connect to wireless networks and share that internet connection wirelessly in your own
environment. However, please keep in mind that you are also dependent on the access points to which
you are attempting to connect. Not every harbor, anchorage, campground or RV Park will have a
wireless network that you are able to connect to, even with The Wirie. Depending on the access point
equipment, and obstacles between The Wirie and the access point, your range and ability to connect will
vary greatly. Hotels, marinas, and RV parks with high-end wireless equipment will allow connections
from miles away with The Wirie, but smaller, in-home equipment, may not be useable unless your
proximity is fairly close.
Below is all the information you need to install The WirieAP Upgrade Kit.
The WirieAP Upgrade Kit will allow you to upgrade your existing Wirie to all the functionality included in
The WirieAP. This manual will walk you step by step through the installation. Once installed, please refer
to The WirieAP User Manual for information on how to operate The WirieAP (see
www.thewirie.com/wiriedrivers.html for the User Manual).
If you have any questions, please contact us via our support page at www.thewirie.com/support.html.

Step 4 –Remove Coax Cable and USB Cable
1) Unscrew the coax cable from the antenna at the top of the enclosure.

3) Leave the water-tight gland loose for step 9 of the upgrade procedure.

Step 6 –Install WirieAP Access Point
1) Insert the short USB cable to the top of The Wirie AP Access Point. This cable only inserts one
way so be sure to attach the plug with the cable going to the right, as shown below.
2) Press The WirieAP Access Point onto the Velcro where the WiFi adapter was attached previously.
Note:Be sure it is mounted so that the positioning of the small rubber antenna allows the door to
close freely. The USB cable should be at the top, and the power cable at the bottom.

Step 7–Install Wirie WiFi Adapter
1) Using an 8mm wrench/spanner, screw the WiFi adapter that you previously removed to the
Antenna to WiFi Adapter Connector. Tighten so that the WiFi Adapter is held securely in place
and is now suspended by the antenna inside the waterproof box. The WiFi adapter should not
rotate or move once securely attached. Be sure the adapter is facing outward as shown in the
picture below. Do not over tighten as you may damage the WiFi adapter.

Step 8 –Connect USB Cable to WiFi Adapter
1) Using caution, slightly lift the WiFi adapter at the bottom and connect the small end of the USB
cable to the bottom. The cable only fits one way into the adapter.
WARNING: This connection is a tight fit due to limited space. Use caution when attaching the cable.
Pulling upward on the adaptor to attach the cable can cause damage to the antenna connection.

Step 9 –Insert the DC Electrical Cable
1) Insert the white plug that is attached to the 40’ electrical cable into the enclosure via the water
tight gland. The power cable should be run behind the USB cable and the WiFi adapter. Only a
few inches of the electrical cable are necessary inside the enclosure. The gland should be
tightened around the cable sheathing (white portion of electrical cable).
2) Once the cable is inserted, hand-tighten, securely, the water-tight gland around the cable. The
cable should not be able to move within the gland.

Step 10 –Connect the DC Cables
1) Insert the power receptacle from The WirieAP Access Point to the white plug on the electrical
cable. The plug will only fit one way so be sure to line the tabs up correctly. It will click into
place.

Step 11 –Position the DC Cable
1) Slide the plug and cables between the WiFi adapter and the wall of the enclosure such that the
plug and the cable entering the enclosure are positioned under the WiFi Adapter. The cables
should be positioned so that the enclosure door can close securely without any cables being
pinched.

Step 12 –Close the Enclosure
1) Carefully close and latch the enclosure door while ensuring that neither the cables nor the
antenna interfere. If the antenna needs adjusting, simply pull out The WirieAP Access Point and
re-position on the Velcro until the door will shut cleanly.
Step 13 –You Now Have The WirieAP! Irie, Mon!
