GLASS-
Jack GL-N 400/300 ( ee ection 2.3 Symbol and marking ) a well a the performance da-
ta, the operating condition of the u ed crane and the condition of the con truction ite. Fur-
thermore, you have to regard the fact that the manipulated element have to have ufficient
inherent tability and are uitable to be in talled with a vacuum lifting device (if nece ary
con ult with the manufacturer of the element ).
Due to the broad variety of element with many different urface coating offered on the
market we cannot a ume liability in ca e of po ible material incompatibilitie between uc-
tion rubber and urface coating.
The maximum Working Load Limit tipulated on the OKTOPUS
®
only applie to the u e of
the original uction pad and a working height of maximum 400 m above ea level. Employ-
ing the OKTOPUS
®
in height above 400 m lead to a decrea ed Working Load Limit of the
OKTOPUS
®
on the one hand, on the other hand the OKTOPUS
®
control y tem need to be
adju ted. If you want to employ the OKTOPUS
®
in height above 400 m, plea e contact the
Wirth Service Team beforehand.
When operating the OKTOPUS
®
at heights above 400 m the Working Load
Limit is reduced! The Working Load Limits stipulated on the OKTOPUS
®
and in this operating manual do not apply in this case!
Never perform any unauthorized adjustments at the control system of the
OKTOPUS
®
; this may lead to severe malfunction of the device! Danger to
limb and life! Consult with the OKTOPUS

3 Instructions for using the OKTOPUS
®
3.1 Electrical power supply
Power upply i effected by a 24 V / 4,5 Ah battery y tem (2 pc 12 V batterie ).
The battery’ charge level i monitored through a charge indicator according to figure 4.
Light-emitting diode (LED) in the ignal color green, yellow and red indicate the current
charge level after the OKTOPUS
®
ha been turned on.
The following charge level can be read from the charge indicator:
⇒ If at lea t one green LED i illuminated the battery i charged. You can operate the
OKTOPUS
®
.
⇒ If the third LED from the left i illuminated (yellow LED), you hould charge the battery.
⇒ If the econd LED from the left (yellow LED) i fla hing, or the econd LED from the left
(yellow LED) and the red LED are fla hing alternately, the battery need to be charged
in tantly in order to avoid deep di charge and by that po ible damage.
The charge indicator i arranged on the device according to figure 1.
Fig. 4: Charge indicator
Do not use the OKTOPUS
®
, if the yellow LED is flashing, or the yellow and
the red LED are flashing alternately. Possibly sucked loads shall be low-
ered. The OKTOPUS
®
has to be charged instantly in order to avoid deep
discharge and by that possible damage to the battery.
The user has to ensure that the battery is properly charged when operating
the OKTOPUS
®
.
The charge indicator only indicates the current voltage level of the battery.
It does not give any reliable information regarding the battery’s capacity.
The charge indicator responds rather slowly. In order to assess the voltage
level realistically after the charging process (see point 4.4) you have to run
the vacuum pump of the device for approximately 2 minutes, and then use
the indicated charge level of the battery as a basis for assessing how to
employ the device.
If thi green
LED i illuminated
the battery i fully charged.

battery. Starting at the vacuum pump the OKTOPUS
®
GLASS-Jack GL-N 400/300 i de-
igned a a dual circuit y tem. That mean that all the following vacuum component uch
a non-return valve, vacuum re ervoir, pre ure controller, vacuum gauge and uction pad
exi t twice (two vacuum circuit ).
The two vacuum circuit of the OKTOPUS
®
GLASS-Jack GL-N 400/300 are marked by dif-
ferent color , one color per vacuum circuit (blue and red). You have to en ure that uction
pad with vacuum ho e of the ame color are alway arranged diagonally to each other at
the uction frame.
The OKTOPUS
®
GLASS-Jack GL-N 400/300 mounted to the crane i ready for u e, when a
ufficient vacuum level i reached in both vacuum tank . The current vacuum level i con-
tantly indicated on the vacuum gauge (figure 5).
The green cale range i the
permissible working range from -0,65 bar to -0,9 bar.
Fig. 5: Vacuum gauge
During operation the vacuum i monitored by two pre ure controller . If the vacuum i in the
working range in both vacuum circuit , the OKTOPUS
®
i ready for u e.
If the vacuum decrea e impermi ibly in one or both vacuum circuit or the pre ure ri e
above -0,65 bar (red cale range) a warning i triggered automatically:
⇒ the alarm buzzer ound .
⇒ red warning light illuminate .
lways arrange suction pads with vacuum hoses of the same color diago-
nally to each other at the suction frame! Non-compliance with these in-
structions could, in case of a breakdown of a vacuum circuit, lead to the
load suddenly dropping due to uneven load distribution.
If the alarm is activated, stop working instantly and evacuate the hazard
zone, as the sucked element could disengage suddenly. Never stand or
walk under the OKTOPUS
®
or the suctioned element!
The alarm remains active until the vacuum pressure is restored within its
permitted limits.
Red range
The OKTOPUS

4.3 Vacuum system
Vacuum component , ubjected to wear and being relevant to afety have to undergo in-
pection on a regular ba i . You have to
⇒ daily check the component in term of their correct po ition and mechanical damag-
e , e pecially
• the uction pad (if nece ary, replace uction pad ),
• the ho e ,
• the vacuum gauge .
Replace the suction pads and the hoses immediately if these have mechan-
ical damages (cracks, cuts, etc.)! These damages could lead to a reduced
Working Load Limit of the OKTOPUS
®
.
The vacuum pump work oil free. The olid de ign allow maintenance-free operation.
The infiltration of du t into the vacuum pump i prevented by du t filter . For thi rea on
maintenance of the vacuum y tem focu e on thi component and mainly con i t of
:
⇒ replacing the du t filter if it i polluted. The du t filter are located under the bonnet of

lated element .
For cleaning the uction pad we recommend to u e water, if nece ary add ome deter-
gent. Do not u e chemical olvent , petrol, die el oil or imilar in any ca e.
Never use solvents, petrol or aggressive chemicals for cleaning the suction
pads! Otherwise this may result in damaging the suction pads, which could
endanger the operator as well as others.
En ure that fluid cannot enter the vacuum y tem during the cleaning proce by po ition-
ing the uction pad or by covering the uction opening. Give the uction pad a ufficient
