1Safety and Agency Approvals
1.1 Legal Reference and Safety Standards
Generally, the operator of a communication system is responsible for its safe operation. Some
important points to respect are e.g.
Assessment of hazard levels at accessible locations,
Care for the proper installation and maintenance,
Measures for the safe operation, like access control and adequate staff training.
1.2 Electrical Safety
The CHAMELEON equipment must be grounded in accordance with local and national electrical
standards. Risk of bodily injury from electric shock! Failure to adhere to these instructions could result in
personal injury and/or damage to electrical components.
Each power supply unit must be switched on or off using a circuit breaker which have to be
implemented as part of the building wiring.
Each shelf and the rack must be properly grounded before power is applied by turning on the
respective circuit breaker.
1.3 ESD Protection
This product contains electrostatic sensitive devices. These devices can be damaged or effectively
destroyed by electrostatic discharge (ESD) during unpacking, installation, removal, storage, or shipment
if incorrectly handled.
Please note that discharge might go unnoticed by a user. Always take normal
static precautions when handling the equipment!
2Getting started
This chapter briefly describes how you get the CHAMELEON Encoder up and running. A more detailed
description is available in the manual and installation guide.
2.1 Registration
Before anything can be done with a new CHAMELEON Encoder, it must be registered at
https://wisiconnect.tv.
After registration, the entitlement file must be uploaded to the CHAMELEON Encoder.
2.2 Assembling in base unit
The CHAMELEON Encoder must be fitted in one of the base units that WISI provides. Following base
units will be supported:
GN50x Base unit with internal switch and controller for up to 10 modules, 3 HE
GN40x Base unit without internal switch and controller for up to 10 modules, 3 HE
GN20x Base unit without internal switch and controller, for up to 2 modules, 1 HE
GN01x Wall mount for up to 2 modules.
Depends of the base unit turn the chassis on the backside or frontside and insert the
CHAMELEON Encoder module.
Fix the module with delivered screws.

2.3 Connecting cables
Connect the cables for HDMI input signal to each HDMI in port (1-4).
When using the GN40x, GN20x or GN01x base unit the streaming and management interface
must be connected too. When using the GN50x base unit the streaming and management
interface will be connected via the backplane connector automatically.
2.4 Connecting to the default IP address, CHAMELEON Web UI
For GN40x, GN20x or GN01x base unit (without GT11 switch and controller):
The CHAMELEON Encoder default IP address is 192.168.0.20. Set the IP address on your computer or
for your network adaptor to an address in the same address range. Use a standard web browser to
connect by typing the IP address of the CHAMELEON Encoder in the address field.
It is recommended to change to a unique IP address in your network. You can change the IP address
under SETTINGS / NETWORKING, or by using the IP Supporter.
For GN50x base unit (with GT11 switch and controller):
The assembled CHAMELEON Encoder is connected via the internal GT11 switch and is automatically
shown on the left sight of the user menu (for example slot 8). A changing of the management IP address
is by using the GN50x chassis not necessary.
RF port is not in operation.
Only for mounting the module
in the GN40x base unit.

4Service Management
4.1 Profile –Encoding configuration
The encoding configuration will be managed by the profile settings. For an easy configuration we
predefined 4 default profiles for the different MPEG codecs and HD or SD resolution.
Default HD H.264
Default SD H.264
Default HD MPEG2
Default SD MPEG2
Our recommendation is to use these predefined and tested profiles for the first setup.
For special settings you can change the default profiles or adding your own defined profile.

5Important information and maintenance
5.1 Operating System notes
The ventilation is important to prevent the overheating of the CHAMELEON.
Ensure that the ventilation-ways are free.
Ensure that there is free space at the rear side.
Ensure that the guide rail not cover the ventilation ways.
Operation of the CHAMELEON is only allowed while the fans are running.
The CHAMELEON module includes a temperature-sensor, so if it is too hot for the CHAMELEON
module, it stops running.
If the fan-unit (base unit) is running, the DC-power unit works correctly
