Device Description
The Patient Weight Scale is a compact precision scale system designed for use with the Wy’East Medical
patient lifts. The Patient Weight Scale combines the latest microprocessor and load cell technology to
provide accurate and repeatable weight data with a calibrated accuracy of 0.1%. One button auto-zero
electronics makes patient weighing quick and easy.
In this Instruction Guide the person being weighed is referred to as the patient and the person operating
the equipment is referred to as the caregiver.

Before using your Patient Weight Scale familiarize yourself with the various parts as illustrated in this
guide and then please read this entire guide thoroughly. Information in this guide is important for proper
operation and maintenance and will help protect your scale and ensure that the scale performs to your
satisfaction.
Some of the information in this guide is important for your safety and must be read and understood to
help prevent possible injury. If anything in this guide is confusing or difficult to understand, please contact
Wy'East or its appointed distributor. (contact information appears the “Maintenance” section of this guide)

Safety Points:
The Patient Weight Scale must be used in accordance with these instructions and in conjunction
with the instructions for the lifting device and the sling. Do not exceed the patient weight capacity
of the lifting device or sling.
The maximum lifting capacity (patient weight) of the Patient Weight Scale is 600 lb (272 kg).
Do not exceed the lifting capacity.
The Patient Weight Scale is intended to be operated entirely by a caregiver. The patient should
not perform any function relating to the control of the scale, sling or lift. Additional caregivers may
be required with certain patients or situations.
If the Patient Weight Scale becomes soiled or contaminated it can be cleaned following the
instructions found in the “Maintenance” section of this guide.
Inspect the Patient Weight Scale carefully before each use. If structural fatigue, erratic readings
or other damage is visible or suspected discontinue use immediately.
Before attempting to weigh, the patient must be assessed by a qualified professional.
Always make sure the casters on the lift are unlocked during the weighing procedure.
Do not leave the patient unattended during the weighing procedure.
Operating the Patient Scale
1. Follow the instructions for operating the lift and sling.
2. Attach the empty sling to the sling bar securely.
3. Ensure the scale is clear of any obstructions, is hanging vertically and is free to pivot at both the
top and bottom connection points.
4. Press the “Zero” button to set the system to “0.0”. A “0” will pan across the screen for a couple
seconds. Display will then read “0.0”. See “Fig. 1”
5. Press the “Lb/ Kg”button to choose the desired mode. See “Fig. 1”
6. Remove the sling and following the sling instructions position the patient in the sling. Reattach
the sling to the sling bar ensuring the scale is hanging vertically and is free to pivot.
7. Carefully lift the patient and when the patient is fully supported by the lift and any motion has
stabilized, press the “Operate” button to display the patient weight. Do not touch the patient or
sling during this step.
Note: Auto-Power-Down is set for 60 seconds to conserve the battery. To wake the system,
simply press the “Operate” button again.
8. When the weighing process is complete carefully lower the patient.

Maintenance
A single 9 volt battery powers the Patient Weight Scale. A lithium battery should provide approximately
3,000 readings before replacement is needed. A “lowbat”indicator (see “Fig. 2”) will appear in the
display when replacement is needed. Remove the two screws on the battery access cover to replace the
battery.
The scale can be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water or a mild cleaner. Do not allow liquids to
enter the scale housing as damage to the unit will result.
The scale contains no user serviceable components and should be serviced by qualified personnel only.
Any unauthorized tampering will void the warranty.

Warranty
Wy’East Medical Corporation warrants to the original user that the Patient Weight Scale manufactured by the
company is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The term of warranty from
the date of purchase/shipment is one (1) year during which Wy’East will provide to the user replacement components
or repaired components.
In order to initiate a warranty claim the original user must provide prompt notice to Wy’East Medical Corporation
within the applicable warranty period specifying the nature of the claim. Wy’East will issue instructions as to the
procedure to follow. Wy’East reserves the right to confirm the existence of any claimed defect and to determine
whether any damage was caused by neglect, misuse, unauthorized alteration or failure to follow maintenance
instructions. With respect to a claim covered by this warranty, the defective part will be replaced or repaired at no
charge, provided the defective part is returned to Wy’East Medical. The user has the responsibility for shipping
charges and installation. Assistance is available by calling (503) 657-3101 in Oregon. This is the exclusive remedy for
a claim under this warranty and in no event shall Wy’East be liable for consequential damages. THIS WARRANTY IS
IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.
