patible soft-phone. This soft-phone is the latest in technology that can be
used to send and receive calls on your computer using the included free
Skype™ Internet software. The XACT Model XVP640 provides free high
quality receive and transmit audio to other Skype™ software users as well
as calls to and from regular landline telephones with a subscription service
from Skype™ .

This manual provides instructions for installing and operating your new
XACT USB compatible soft-phone on a computer running Windows
98/ME/2000/XP.

Soft-phone Installation (Quick Start)
1. Plug the USB phone into an available USB port of your PC.
2. Install the Skype™ and Skypemate™ software from the enclosed CD.
3. Download and install the latest Skype™ software from the internet if
necessary
4. Launch Skype™ and Skypemate™
5. You are now ready to send and receive Skype™ calls over the internet.

Connecting the Soft Phone to the PC
Connect the soft-phone’s cable to the USB port on your PC. The red sta-
tus LED on the soft-phone should illuminate once the phone is connected.
If you are connecting the soft-phone to your computer for the first time
and you are using Windows XP your computer will detect the new device
and install the necessary drivers. There is no need for any special driv-
ers, as the phone supports the Windows Human Interface Device and
USB Audio Device 1.0 standards.
If you are installing your soft-phone with systems other than Windows XP,
you will need to follow the set-up procedures that will be displayed on
your computer by the New Hardware Installation Wizard.
Install the Skype ™and Skypemate ™software on
the CD
Skype™ and Skypemate™ is the software designed to enable your XACT
soft-phone to work with Skype™ internet calling.
Insert the installation CD into your computer and the files will automatical-
ly open for download. You need to install the set-up file (Skype@phone-
setup.exe) and the Skypemate™ file.
Once the installation is complete, the Skype™ software will be automati-
cally launched when Windows restarts.

Install the latest Skype™software
Your XACT USB soft-phone performs best with Skype™ Rev. 1.0.0.100
and later. If your Skype™ software is older, please download the latest
Skype™ software at www.skype.com. When you launch Skype™ phone
for the first time, Skype™ will open this pop up message window:
Select the first option “Allow this program to use Skype” and click OK.
Skype™ is now ready for use with your new XACT USB soft-phone.

Call Another Skype™ User
There are several ways to call another Skype™ user:
1. Use the Up or Down key on your soft-phone to select a name
from the Contacts List or call History log on the Skype™ software
page. Once a name is selected click on the ”Call” icon on the screen
or press the “OK” key on the keypad to make the call.
2. From the textbox, enter the Skype Name of another Skype user
and press enter.
3. Double-click the Skype Name.
4. The “Green” LED on your soft-phone will turn “on” indicating a
call is in progress.
Calls To and From A Regular Telephone
Incoming and out-going calls to a regular landline telephone
requires a subscription from Skype™
(see http://www.skype.com/store/) Once you have subscribed to
Skype-in™ and/or Skype-out™ you can send and/or receive calls
from a landline telephone. Long distance charges may apply to
calls outside your local calling area.
Answer a Call and Disconnecting a Call
When an incoming call comes into your XACT USB soft-phone, you
can answer the call by pressing the “OK” key on the handset. After
your call is complete, press the “C” key to disconnect and return to the
stand-by mode.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Problem 1
“There is no audio coming from my computer speakers when
playing music or videos.”
Solution 1
Once you install software for your USB soft-phone, the default audio
device in your computer system will change to "USB Audio Device".
To play music through your PC speakers, you must set the PC
sound card as the preferred audio device. Please follow the steps
below: Be sure that the preferred playback device for your sound
card has been selected in the “Sounds and Multimedia” options in
the PC Control Panel

Can I use my XACT soft-phone with other PC-based soft-phone
applications?
Solution 2
Yes. The XACT USB soft-phone is a standard audio device which
can be used with most soft-phone software applications. You
should note, that the ringer for incoming calls may not be supported
with other soft-phone applications.
Problem 3
Why can I hear an echo of myself at times?
Solution 3
Echo usually occurs when the person you are calling or who has
called you is using a speaker-type phone or the PC’s speakers and
microphone. Echo will not be noticed when the caller is using a
similar type hand-held soft-phone as your XACT soft-phone.

XACT Communication
One-Year Limited Warranty
This limited warranty sets forth all XACT Communication responsibilities
regarding your Telephone. There are no other expressed or implied war-
ranties from XACT Communication.
Warranty Service Provided
If you purchased the Telephone new from a retail vendor, XACT
Communication warrants the equipment against defects in material and
workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the original date of pur-
chase. This warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties. This war-
ranty begins when you purchase the Telephone and continues for one (1)
year unless you sell or rent the unit, in which case the warranty stops.
XACT Communication disclaims any implied warranty, including the
warranty of merchantability and the warranty of fitness for a particular
purpose, as of the date of one year from your original purchase of the
Telephone XACT Communication assumes no responsibility for any spe-
cial, incidental, or consequential damages.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other
rights which vary from state to state. Some states do not allow the
exclusion or limitations of special, incidental, or consequential damages
or limitations on how long a warranty lasts, so the above exclusion or limi-
tation may not apply to you.

Warranty Service Not Provided
This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accident, misuse,
abuse, improper installation or operation, lack of reasonable care,
unauthorized modification, or the affixing of any attachment not provided
by XACT Communication with the equipment, and/or loss of parts. This
warranty is voided in the event any unauthorized person opens, alters, or
repairs the telephone.
All XACT Communication equipment being returned for repair must be
suitably packaged.
Telephone companies use different types of equipment and offer various
types of services to customers. XACT Communication does not warrant
that this equipment is compatible with the type of equipment of any
particular telephone company or the services provided by it.
What To Do for Warranty Service
During the first thirty (30) days, a defective product is eligible for over-the-
counter exchange at the retailer from whom it was purchased. After thirty
(30) days, the defective product should be returned to the authorized
service center. Please allow a minimum of 2-3 weeks for the return of
your telephone product. The shipping address of the authorized serv-
ice center is:

Your telephone product will be repaired or replaced if examination by the
service center determines the telephone product is defective. Telephone
products received damaged as a result of shipping will require you to file
aclaim with the carrier prior to repair. A telephone product received with
missing parts or with damage due to abuse, inadequate packing or some
other noncompliance with this limited warranty will be returned to you
C.O.D., freight collect.
NOTE: A telephone product received which was not made by XACT
Communication or which is not defective as determined by our test
procedures will not be repaired and will be returned to you C.O.D.,
freight collect.
To Obtain Warranty Service
• Provide proof of the date of purchase within the package.
• Prepay all shipping costs to the authorized service center.
• Include a return shipping address within the package.
Please retain your sales receipt, the carton, the packing materials, and
the printed material. The original carton is the best shipping container for the
Telephone Equipment should you have to return it.
