Beforegoingthroughwiththismanual,you should read andfocustothefollowing safety

Safety Guidelines
Toprovidereasonableprotection againstanyharmon thepartoftheuserandto obtain
maximumperformance,userisadvisedtobeawareofthefollowingsafety guidelines
particularlyinhandlinghardware components:
Upon receivingofthe product:
™Placetheproductinits proper location.
™Toavoidunnecessarydroppingout,makesurethatsomebodyisaround for
immediate assistance.
™Itshouldbehandledwithcaretoavoid droppingthatmaycausedamageto the
product.Alwaysusethecorrectlifting procedures.
Upon installingofthe product:
™Ambienttemperatureisveryimportantfortheinstallation site.Itmustnot exceed
30 C.Duetoseasonalclimatechanges;regulatetheinstallation site temperature
makingitnottoexceedtheallowedambient temperature.
™Beforeplugging-inanypowercords,cablesandconnectors,makesurethat the
powerswitches areturnedoff.Disconnect firstanypowerconnection if the power
supplymoduleisbeingremovedfromthe enclosure.
™Outlets mustbeaccessibletothe equipment.
™Allexternalconnectionsshouldbemadeusingshieldedcablesandasmuch as
possibleshould notbeperformedbybarehand.Usinganti-statichandgloves is
recommended.
™Ininstallingcomponents,secureallthemountingscrewsandlocks.Makesure that

TheNAS System
Storagenetworksbecomemoreandmorecomplex.Ifyou needtoeasilyexpand storage
capacity whileprovidinguninterruptedhigh-performancedataaccess across yourLAN, you
maywanttoconsideraNAS (NetworkAttachedStorage)appliance.Whenbudgetsare tight
andaquickfixisrequired,aNAS appliance isalow-cost,efficientsolution tododge that
network-to-storagelogjam.That'swhymoreandmoreusersselect NAS architectureas
theirstorage networking.
TheNAS systemisareliable,cost-effectivewaytoadd storagetothenetwork.It comes
with5drivetraysaccommodating3.5" SATAII drives whileSCA-II single connector
architectureenables truehotswap capability.Built-inIntelCeleron 1.6GHzCPU(or above),
upto2GBDDR2-667MHz SDRAMandtwoGigabitEthernetportsoffershigh performance
NAS platform.WithLinux-basedembeddedOSdesign,itcanbootwithoutHDD,FDDor CD-
ROMtoguarantee reliabilityandquickboot.TheNAS systemismanagedandconfigured by

2.4.1NASHardware Setup
1.AttachnetworkcabletoLAN0Ethernetport.Connecttheotherendofnetwork cable
toyournetworkhuborswitch.You mayalsoconnecttheotherEthernet ports if
needed.
2.PluginthepowercordintotheACPowerInputSocketlocatedattherear of the
subsystem.
3.ToturnontheNAS,press thePowerOn/Off Switch.
4.ThePowerLEDon thefrontpanelwillturn green.
2.4.2InstallingHard Drives
Thissectiondescribes thelocation oftheharddrivesintheNAS systemand gives
instructionson installingaharddrive.Thesystemsupportshot-swappingallowing you
toinstall orreplacea hard drivewhilethesystemis running.
a.Makesurethelockindicatorisinunlockedposition.Topull outadisktray, press
theLockIndicatorButton.Pullthehandleoutwardstoremovethedisktray from
the enclosure.
b.Placetheharddriveinthedisk tray.

c.Makesuretheholesofthedisktrayalignwiththeholesofthehard drive. Install
themountingscrewson thebottomparttosecurethedriveinthedisk tray.
d.SlidethetrayintoaslotandpushtheLockIndicator Button.
e.Press thehandleuntil you hear thelatchclickintoplace.TheHDDstatusLED will
turngreenif subsystemis on.

TheQuickSetupprovidesquickandeasysetupofthebasicNAS configuration.
TheQuickSetupoptionsarelisted below:
1.RAID
ThisisusedforselectingtheStorageMode(RAID Level).
2.Storage/Share
ThisshowsthedefaultHomesharecapacity whichcanbechanged.Italso shows
defaultsharenamed“share”whichcanberenamedandwhose sizecanbe changed.
3.Network Adapter
ThisisforconfiguringtheprimaryEthernetinterfaceLAN0(eth0)network settings.
Afterchangingthesettings,adminneedtologinusingthenewIP address.
4.Service
ThisisforenablingthebasicServicesprovidedbyproNAS.Windows(Samba) service
isenabledby default.
TheQuickSetup Steps:
1.ConfigurethesoftwareRAID byselectingtheStorage Mode.
TheStorageModeoptions are:
(a)Max.Capacity (RAID0)
(b)CloneData (RAID1)
(c)Max.Security (RAID5)
2.Configurethe Storage/Share.
a.Changethe“home”sizedefaultcapacityif needed.
b.Renamethedefaultshareif necessary.
NOTE:Thesharefoldernamedoesnotallowspace in-between
characters.
