1 Scope
This guide provides information on all features of ipVG. A step-by-step walkthrough will acquaint you with the
transmission and recording features. All you need is ipVG and a PC or laptop with CamControl LITE or
CamControl PRO software.
Version creation date
This guide describes ipVG version 4.58. It was compiled in February 2017. As part of continuous product
development ipVG firmware is in the process of perpetual enhancement. See the installation CD or our
website www.heitel.com for the current firmware version.
Supplementary Guides
Perform setup conveniently with CamControl LITE or CamControl PRO software. Please read the notes on
setup in the respective software guide. The description of offline hard disk evaluation by PC is included in
software guide CamControl PLAYER software. The software guides are available on the installation CD in
several languages and as a PDF file (online documentation).
Connection options for cameras
The ipVG can be equipped with up to a maximum of 10 IP cameras. Up to 8 IntrusionTrace licenses can be
installed for 8 of 10 inputs. However, IntrusionTrace is only available in combination with JPEG/MJPEG
cameras (not H.264).
XOh
The remotely programmable XOh SecurityPlus firmware extends the rich functionality of HeiTel
VideoGateways. The firmware includes additional applications (IntrusionTrace) that supports human guards
and ensures improved, more comprehensive and “always on” threat detection. Moreover, the XOh Firmware

3.3 Mounting and Setting up
ipVG is designed for use in specific ambient conditions. Conditions deviating from these can cause damage to
the device, or to the recorded data. Warranty will be voided in this case. Please maintain the ambient
conditions described below when using your ipVG device.
3.3.1 General Safety Information
lMake sure to carefully read and understand this guide before operating the device.
lDo not expose the device to strong vibration or shock.
lAvoid humidity or dust, extreme temperature fluctuations, or strong magnetic fields.
lThe operating temperature for ipVG is between +5°C and +40°C.

3.4 System Environment
3.4.1 Overview of Software for Operation, Alarm Verification, and
Configuration
ipVG is a standalone unit. Once installed and configured, it reacts to events, records these on a continuous or
on an event-triggered basis, transmits and/or saves video and/or audio data, alarms to local and remote
receiver units, and additionally logs protocols locally. Only one of the following software packets, developed
by HeiTel especially for CCTV applications, is required for the PC based receiver/evaluation unit.
lCamControl LITE (part of ipVG delivery) software for operation, alarm verification, and configuration for
single workstations with up to 6000 transmitters CamServer, Cam4mobile, CamDisc, CamTel and/or
CamDisc HNVR. The CamControl LITE software is used for setting up the ipVG.
lCamControl PRO software for operating, alarm verification and configuration of single workstation
applications. Enables simultaneous viewing of up to 21 transmitters. Maximum 6000 transmitters
(CamServer, Cam4mobile, CamDisc, CamTel and/or CamDisc HNVR).
lCamControl PLAYER (included in ipVG delivery) software for replay and evaluation of CamServer,
Cam4mobile, CamDisc and PC archives, and integral part of CamControl LITE and CamControl PRO.
Note: Information on other software solutions, in particular for integration into higher-level control centres
such as HeiTel's Event Management System (EMS) or the video wall software CamControl MV, is
available on request.
3.4.2 Compatibility of Software Versions
Ensure compatibility of CamControl software with your ipVG. The table below provides an overview:
Software Compatible from version
CamControl LITE 4.53
CamControl PRO 4.41
CamControl PLAYER 3.69

3.5 Storage Medium
Video data integrity
To prevent manipulation of digital image data, video data cannot be changed by PC applications to be played
back into the frame storage device. This ensures ipVG containing only video data originally recorded by ipVG.
Which data will be stored on the storage medium?
As well as the video and audio data (possibly including further transaction data), additional information and
settings are stored on the storage medium, so as to protect against unauthorised access for example. This
information includes:
lCopy of camera and camera group names
lSerial number of the recording device
lAll criteria relevant to the video recording (refer to "Factory Settings" under "Site Archive" "Site Archive"
on page60) for a complete list of criteria.
CamControl software allows storage of the most important settings in the ipVG flash memory. The saved
settings can later be written to the storage medium in just a few easy steps as required, e.g. for the
configuration of additional or new storage media.
Factory settings / configuration profile
When commissioning a new storage medium in combination with a new ipVG the factory settings stored in the
ipVG will be used for automatic configuration of the storage medium. After configuration with CamControl
LITE or CamControl PRO software, you can save your personal device configuration in the form of a profile
and use this profile again when needed, e.g. when replacing the storage medium or for fast programming of
other storage media.
Reset the device as described in chapter "Device Reset" if you want to reset the device to factory settings,
refer to "Device Reset" on page 25.
Save settings to PC / Load setting from PC
In addition to backing up the configuration settings in ipVG, you can also back them up to the receiver PC
using the CamControl software and then re-load them to your ipVG if necessary. You will find the options for
saving and loading device settings under Recorder settings/Upload/Download.
Furthermore, you can transfer backed-up device settings to other ipVG devices. These other devices must
have the same number of camera inputs and the same firmware version.
Operation without hard disk (storage medium)
ipVG can be operated without storage medium if the corresponding feature "Use without hard disk drive" has
been activated with CamControl LITE or CamControl PRO software. In this operating mode ipVG offers all
features, except video recording. Essentially these are the following features:
lDigital transmission of live images by IP and/or dialup connection
lRemote configuration and maintenance by IP and/or dialup connection
lAlarm management - control inputs, IntrusionTrace - for automatic dialup
lSystem and video signal monitoring
lCamera and relay control
lAudio transmission
All functions specific to the storage medium, such as cyclical reset, alarm on hard disk error (storage medium
error), activation of error LED or the error relay and error display in the time field, will be deactivated. This
operating mode is available only if the device does not detect any storage medium and therefore no storage
medium is present in the device.

HeiTel by Xtralis ipVG Product Guide
29794_00 15
If ipVG detects a functional storage medium after start up with option Use without hard disk drive (storage
medium) activated, the option will be ignored and the storage medium will be used. If this fails during
operation, all storage medium related errors will be read out until the next reset.

4 Front View and Description
On the front of the unit you will find 3 LEDs:
Labeling/description Function
LED Power - green Power on indicator
LED Error - yellow An illuminated red Error LED indicates malfunctions such as system errors or video
signal failure. For reset of the error, the error has to be acknowledged by opening the
log file.
LED Record - blue An illuminated Record LED indicates storage medium write-access, e.g. caused by
image recording or system-related access, such as transmission of date and time
data.
CAUTION:
The ipVG does not have a mains switch. In order to prevent damage to the hard disk always use
the Shutdown device function in the software, refer to "Shut down ipVG" section on page 33.
