Aproperlysizedandinstalledsystemwillraisepooltemperaturesupto100Fduringthe
season.Youwillonlywanttocirculatewaterthroughthesolarcollectorwhenthesunis
shining.Whenit'scloudyorrainy,solarwon'tworkaswell(andyouprobablywon't be
swimmingduringthosetimes),butyourwaterwillbebackuptotemperatureafteroneortwo
warmdays.

Operation
1. The collectorsshould feel cool to the touch when the sun isshinning on
them and waterispassing through.Thismeansthat the heatisbeing
transferred to the water.
2. The water returningto yourpool will bea fewdegrees(3-5degrees) warmer
than the pool itself.Thisisthe mostefficientwayto heata large bodyof water
likea pool.Keepcirculating thewater, which adds a fewdegreeseach pass.
3. Circulatewater though the solarcollectors atleast 6 hoursperday during
the daylight hourson sunnydays.Ifyou circulate water through itatnight,
when it'sovercastoron chillydays,you will cool your pool water rather than
heatit.Ifyou need torunyour pump atnight,divertthe water directly backto
the pool and bypassthe solar system.An automaticcontroller will sensethe
water temperatureandavailable radiation fromthe sun and automatically turn
the 3-WayValve to direct theflow of water accordingly.
WINTERIZATION

SOLARCOLLECTORS JUSTLIKE YOUDRAINTHE RESTOFYOURPOOL
EQUIPMENT.
Remove the vacuumreliefvalveatthe top ofthe solar system.Remove the
rubber end cap atthe bottomand be sure ALLthe water isdrained outofthe
system.Replace end capsand blowpressurized airin the reverse direction of
normal water flow.Thisisthe mosteffective wayto drainyour system.You can
leave the collectorsin place (aslong astheyare completelydrained) and they
willwithstand even the harshestwinters.Ofcourse,you can store your
collectorsinside ina warm dryplace.ifyou like.

COLLECTORREPAIR
IFA COLLECTORDEVELOPS ALEAK
Ifa leakdevelopsfor anyother reason, youmayuse the repairmethod shown.
The collectorsarenot warranted againstfreeze damage.
SOLARCOLLECTORREPAIR
This method allowsfor an easyand permanent,on-site repair of a collector by
isolating theleading riser tube. Referring to the figure atthe right,locate the
tube to be isolated.(Endtubehas been shown forclarity).Using asharp utility
knife,verycarefullycutawayapproximately 1"ofthe tube at both headers.
Drive a #10 sheet metal screw,preferablystainless,into the hole in the header.
The screwmustbebetween 1/2"and 3/4"long.
DONOTOVERTIGHTEN! If the screwstripsout,or ifthe repair leaks,
use a #12screw.This repair method will notvoid the collector warranty.
With proper care and winterization, youwillenjoyyour solar collectors formany
years.
