Amplifier
The XTZ 99 W10.16 is equipped with a powerfu
300 watt amp ifier with a arge heat sink for
effective coo ing. For professiona use (studio, PA
etc), it is equipped with a ba anced input. The
termina connectors are go d p ated and very so id.
To achieve a high power and a ong durabi ity, the
amp ifier use a arge toroida transformer, arge
e ectro ytic capacitors and Toshiba bipo ar
transistors in the output stage.
The active amp ifier a so provides a variety of
adjustment options, not possib e to obtain using a
passive fi ter. These inc ude phase, frequency, high
pass fi tering, vo ume etc.
By using these settings, the main amp ifier is
re ieved and on y needs to drive the midrange and
treb e. This usua y resu ts in ower distortion and
the risk of damages on it is owered.
The woofer/ dri er
The XTZ W10.16
is equipped with a powerfu and
we -sounding 10" woofer.
The cone has an
a uminium frame for maxima stiffness
combined
with ow weight, which
together with the powerfu
magnet contributes to the high efficiency.
To achieve high power capacity, we have se ected
a
arger diameter of the coi . The driver is equip
ped
with rubber suspension for h
igh strength, f exibi ity
and obtains a onger peak-to-peak excursion.
The "non pressed paper"
type membrane a ows for
a very stiff, yet ig
ht driver. The basket is mou ded
in a uminium
, ensuring ow magnetic osses and
ow weight.
The cabinet
The cabinet is made from 25mm MDF with three
interna bars making the box stab e
, without
resonances.
The surface is varnished giving a proper ook.

Practice of sound / Installation and placement tips
This chapte
r contains common information on
oudspeaker p acement and insta ation.
This is genera ru es, so there are exceptions of
some ru es
In which room do
you achie e the best
sound?
No matter how good the equipment is, in the wrong
istening enviro
nment it wi inevitab y sound bad.
There are some basic ru es concerning a proper
oudspeaker insta ation:
Reflections
Carpets, curtains and soft furniture absorb mid
range and high frequency sou
nd, which is
preferab e. Big empty areas on the ot
her hand,
produce hard ref ections that may ead to a
b urry
dia ogue. Apart from co ouring the sound, t
he
perspective of the sound can a so
deteriorate.
Ref ections in the room can rough y be compar
ed to
the ref ections that cause
ghost pictures on a TV
screen.
Amplification of bass
frequencies
A oudspeaker that is p aced near a wa , cei ing or
f oor wi amp ify
ower frequencies in a sometimes
not desirab e way (since it may ead t
o an indistinct
sound reproduction
). This amp ification becomes
even more obvious if the oudspeaker is p aced near
a corner. Thus, for a sound as c ear as possib e, the
oudspeaker shou d be p aced at east 30 cm (about
12 inch) away from the wa .
Some speaker constructions are
made to be p aced
c ose to a wa however.
Furniture
Be aware that furniture may v
ibrate, creating noise
at high sound eve s.
Room dimension
Quadratic rooms or rooms where the ength is
exact y twice as ong as the width shou d be
avoided, since they are very ike y to produ
ce
unwanted resonances.
Placement of the
subwoofer
The p acement of the subwoofer in the room
dramatica y
affects the overa frequency response
and sound eve of the system. A
t ow frequencies
the effect of the room is
strong. Even a s ight
cha
nge in the subwoofer's ocation can make a
significant
difference in the frequency ba ance.
Patience and experimentation is needed to find
the
optima p acement. The p acement affects
the
phase difference between the main oudspeakers
and the subwoofer.
Subwoofers often get a more inear frequency
response p aced in a corner.

Cables
Try to keep cab es and wires as short as possib e.
Due to its e ectrica features
, a ong conductor wi
have a bigger inf uence on the sound than a short
one.
Make
sure that a connections are c ean and not
oxidized. A connections shou d be mechanica y
stab e, both power, signa and oudspeaker cab es.
Signa cab es shou d
be separated from other cab es
carrying arger currents or higher vo tages.
Front speakers
To get the best resu t the front speakers shou d be
p aced symmetrica y
in front of the istener. The
distance between the front speakers shou d be
around 80% of the distance to the istener. In other
words, the recommended ang e between the fron
t
speakers shou d be 45°.
Finally
P ease remember that good sound is a matter of
taste, so you have to experiment to obtain
your
favourite one. We wish you best of uck!

Mounting
Mounting
The XTZ 99 W10.16
is best p aced standing on the
f oor.
However it is fu y possib e to ay it down
without affecting the sound.
Driver and bass ref ex gates shou d not be faced
towards f oor or wa ; they need to "breathe" free y.
Spikes
99 W10.16 has feet of rubber t
o absorb vibrations.
It’s possib e to change this to spikes.
M6 Screws size is used
Connect with the
correct phase
A ways connect using the correct phase, from the
+-po e on the amp ifier to the +-
po e on the
oudspeaker and respective y for the minus (-)
po e.
If connectio
n with Line in is used, on y one of the
connectors needs to be used.
If both of the connectors are used, the output eve
are 3dB higher
If you by accident connect the other way,
there is no risk of damage. However, the
phase of the signa wi be not co
rrect,
resu ting in improper sound.
O erload
Avoid p aying very oud for onger periods of time.
This causes higher stress on the amp ifier and
drivers.
If you p ay extreme y oud for a ong time
there is a big risk that you destroy the
product.
The initial playing
time
It takes about 50 to 100 hour of initia p aying time,
for the driver to sound optima y
. During this time,
the speaker may be used norma y.
Amplifiers with low
le el output to XTZ
W10.16 Line In
Connect either a st
ereo or mono RCA ead to your
output device (surround decoder, TV, stereo
receiver, etc) depending on whether a stereo or
mono output is provided.
If stereo, connect both RCA p ugs into the
subwoofer's RCA jacks. If mono, connect the RCA
p ug into either of the input jacks.
Then connect the
power cord to your power out et.

rtain sound signa s may
contain a ot of energy.
2 Frequency
Frequency crossover
Variab e contro ranging
from 40Hz to 250Hz
(-3dB) provides optimum
setting of subwoofer
crossover frequency to match crossover frequency
of Home Theatre components.
The filter slope is 18 dB/octave. You can
hereby change the character of the woofer,
depending on what you prefer (more or less
deep) and matched to your other speakers.
On modern amplifiers you commonly have the
possibility to set the size of the loudspeakers
(small / big etc). If you have small front
speakers, you should set the size to small.
Thus, they will reproduce middle bas, mid-
range and treble much better - leaving the
deep bass tones alone to the subwoofer.
3 Phase
Variab e contro for 0-180 phase adjustment
The technica difference between these two
extremes (0 and 180 degrees) corresponds to
n a normal installation, this should be set to 0.
The setting will have impact on the sonic
characteristics, especially the co-operation
with the front speakers.
Please note that the difference between the

a tering the po es of the cab es (setting + to - and -
to +)
lines is 18 degrees
4 Auto on
Auto on or A ways on
Auto on starts the sub, when signal comes
from amplifier. Always on keeps the
subwoofer on all the time.
5 EQ 1
Increases 7dB @ 25Hz
Excessive use of
EQ can lead to damage of the
subwoofer, when used at high volumes
EQ 2 and High Pass filter should not be used
at same time.
6 EQ 2
Increases 7dB @ 50Hz
Excessive use of
EQ can lead to damage of the
subwoofer, when used at high volumes
7 High Pass
Subsonic fi ter
Switch ON and the high pass is avai ab e. Switch
OFF and the high pass is unavai ab e
The high pass crossover removes the deepest
part of the bass spectra. This is helpful in
many rooms, since they may heavily amplify
the deep bass tones, which may lead to
uncontrolled bass.
High Pass filter and EQ 2 should not be used
at same time.
8 Balanced input

or a
surround sound decoder. If on y a mono
(sing e) subwoofer output is provided, connect it to
either of input jack.
Only one input needs to be used. Use of both
increases level with 3 dB
10 Standby indicator
Turns red in standby.
Turns b ue in when the subwoofer is on.
11 High le el input

There is an automatic switch on the
subwoofer. When it senses a signal, it will
switch on and consequently switch to standby
(this is indicated by the LED, which tu
rns blue
when in operating mode). When no signal is
present (after a certain time period) the
amplifier switches to standby mode.
Turn off the subwoofer if it is not in use for a
long period.

Sound settings
Basic setting for a
neutral bass
representation
Since the sonic
characteristics depend on a wide
range of externa factors, there is no "st
andard"
setting for a neutra presentation.
The externa factors that have an impact on
the
sound inc ude the room,
p acement of the speaker,
output eve s etc.
To simp ify the i
nsta ation, you may use this basic
setting which is for an average room of about 20m

Room Tuning -
Mechanical
adjustment of the
boundary frequency
By using the supp ied bass p ugs in the bass ref ex
ports, you can a ter the ower boundary frequency
of XTZ 99 W10.16.
This makes it possib e to a ter the sonic
characteristics of the woofer. The picture be ow
shows three basic settings.
On
e or two open ref ex ports wi increase the
efficiency so that the subwoofer can hand e higher
sound pressure than with both ports c osed.
1st mode - no plugs in the reflex gates
No p ugs in the gates wi provide a "quick" bass
character especia y su
itab e for arger rooms where
the ower frequencies often are amp ified by the
room itse f.
2nd mode -
2 bass plugs in the reflex gates
This wi provide a neutra , even and contro ed
bass setting (C osed box)
3rd mode -
1 plug in the left reflex gate
This wi provide a neutra bass setting.
4th mode -
1 plug in the right reflex gate
This wi provide a "deep" bass suitab e for sma er
rooms.
Since the sonic characteristics depends on
the room and a wide range of externa
factors, there exists no "st
andard" setting
for a neutra representation.
Room tuning wi a so have inf uence on
the efficiency you wi have to adjust the
vo ume, frequency and High Pass in the
room tuning modes.
"Quick" bass exp ained:
By this we mean a bass with ess deep bass
information. This might a so be ca ed
"hard", "attack", "tight", "punchy" etc.
This picture does not show actua measured curves. It is on y intended to be used as an i ustration of the different acoustic characteristics in the
ower frequencies.
