Amplifier
The XTZ 99 W12.18
ICE is equipped with
ICEpower® 125ASX2,
a powerful 550 watt
amplifier. For professio al use (studio, PA etc), it is
equipped with a bala ced i put. The termi al
co ectors are gold plated a d very solid.
Class-
D tech ology makes it possible to get more

amplifier.
The active amplifier also
provides a variety of

By usi g these setti gs, the mai amplifier is
relieved a d o ly eeds to drive the midra ge a d
treble. This usually results i lower distortio a d
the risk of damages o it is lowered.
ICEpower® Class D amplifiers have the followi g
adva tages:
•Audio performa ce better tha Class AB amplifiers
•Sig ifica tly higher e ergy efficie cy of audio
products
•Due to the possibility of desig i g smaller
products, more cha els ca be i tegrated i to a

Practice of sound / Installation and placement tips
This chapter co tai s commo i formatio o
loudspeaker placeme t a d i stallatio .
This is ge eral rules, so there are exceptio s of
some rules
In which room do
you achie e the best
sound?
No matter how good the equipme t is, i the wro g
liste i g e viro me t it will i evitably sou d bad.
There ar
e some basic rules co cer i g a proper
loudspeaker i stallatio :
Reflections
Carpets, curtai s a d soft fur iture absorb mid
ra ge a d high freque cy sou d, a d this is
preferable. Big empty area, o the co trary, reflects
it a d produces hard re
flectio s that may lead to
blurry dialogue. Apart from colouri g the sou d,
also the perspective of the sou d will deteriorate.
Reflectio s i the room ca roughly be compared to
the reflectio s that yield ghost pictures o a TV
scree .
Amplification
of bass
frequencies
A loudspeaker that is placed ear a wall, ceili g or
floor will amplify
lower freque cies i a sometimes
ot desirable way (si ce it may lead to a i disti ct
sou d recreatio ). This amplificatio becomes eve
more obvious if the lo
udspeaker is placed ear a
cor er. Thus, for a sou d as clear as possible, the
loudspeaker should be placed at least 30 cm (about
12 i ch) away from the wall
Some co structio s are
made to be placed closed to
a wall.
Furniture
Be aware that fur it
ure may vibrate a d thus create
bad sou d at loud bass.
Room dimension
Quadratic rooms or rooms where the le gth is
exactly twice as lo g as the width should be
avoided, si ce they may create u wa ted
reso a ce.
Placement of the
subwoofer
The placeme t of the subwoofer i the room
dramatically
affects the overall freque cy respo se
a d sou d level of the system. A
t low freque cies
the effect of the room is
stro g. Eve a slight
cha ge i the subwoofer's locatio ca make a
sig ifica t di
ffere ce i the freque cy bala ce.
Patie ce
a d methodical experime tatio is eeded
to fi d a optimal
placeme t. The placeme t
affects
the phase differe ce betwee the mai
loudspeakers a d the subwoofer.
O e basic rule is to place the subwoofer togeth
er
with or ear the fro t system (especially importa t
if the fro t loudspeaker also propagate
bass
freque cies) as this will mi imize the risk of phase
elimi atio s i the room.

Page: 7 / 12
Cables
Try to keep them as short as possible. By its
electrical para
meters, a lo g co ductor will have a
bigger i flue ce o the sou d tha a short o e. It
may also work as a a te a a d thus receive
various sig als that may become a co sta t oise i
a active subwoofer.
Make sure that all co ectio s are clea a d ot
oxidized
. All co ectio s should be mecha ically
stable, both power, sig al a d loudspeaker cables.
Sig al cables should be separated from other
cables.
Front speakers
To get the best result the fro t speakers should be
placed symmetrical i fro t
of the liste er. The
dista ce betwee the fro t speakers should be
arou d 80% of the dista ce to the liste er. I other
words, the recomme ded
a gle betwee the fro t
speakers should be 45°.
Why use 2
Subwoofer
There are more the o e be efits of
havi g 2
subwoofers i stead of o e.
The sou d pressure level will be higher.
Less dips a d sta di g waves i the room a d a
better freque cy respo se i the room (a d o
sweet spot)
The eed of power is less, to reach the same SPL as
with o e subwoofer
Finally
Please remember that good sou d is a matter of
taste, so you have to experime t to obtai
your
favourite o e.
We wish you best of luck!

Mounting
Ge erally:
The placeme t of the subwoofer i the room affects
the overall f
reque cy respo se a d sou d level of
the system dramatically, as at low freque cies the
i flue ce of the room is stro g.
Eve a slight cha ge i the subwoo
fer's locatio
ca make a sig ifica t
differe ce i the freque cy
bala ce, a d ofte patie ce a d m
ethodical
experime tatio is eeded to fi d the optimum
placeme t.
This subwoofer is i te ded for XTZ products
, but
ca of course be used with other speakers.
Spikes
99 W12.18 ICE have feet of rubber to
absorb
vibratio s. But it’s possible to cha ge this to spikes.
The Rubber foot are adjustable
to get the
subwoofer i level
with the floor. The foot are
removable for those who wa t to mou t spikes.
(M6 screw)
Connect with the
correct phase
Always co ect usi g the correct phase, from th
e
+-pole o the amplifier to the +-
pole o the
loudspeaker a d respectively for the mi us (-) pole
If you by accide t co ect the other way,
there is o risk of damage. However, the
phase of the sig al will be
ot correct,
resulti g i improper sou d.
O erload
With high power load u der lo g time there is risk
of overloadi g the driver a d/or the amplifier.
WARNING!
All products, amplifiers, speakers, cross
-
overs ca be damaged if playi g loud
music for a lo g time
The initial playing
time
It takes about 50 to 100 hour of i itial playi g time,
for the driver to sou d optimally
. Duri g this time,
the speaker may be used ormally.

Room Tuning
-
Mechanical
adjustment of the
boundary frequency
By usi g the supplied bass plugs i the bass reflex
gates, you ca alter the lower bou dary
freque cy
o XTZ 99 W12.18 ICE
This makes it possible to alter the so ic
characteristics of the woofer. The picture below
shows 4 basic setti gs.
With 1 or 2 ope reflex gates(bass-
reflex) will
i crease the efficie cy so it ca ha dle more sou d
pressure tha with 2 closed reflex gates(closed-
box)
1st mode - no plugs in the reflex gates
No plugs i the gates will provide
a "quick" bass
suitable for big rooms.
2nd mode - 2 bass plugs in the reflex gates
This will provide a eutral, eve a d co troled ba
ss
setti g (Closed box)
3rd mode - 1 plug in the right reflex gate
O e plug i the right
gates will provide a "deep"
bass suitable for smaller rooms.
4rd mode - 1 plug in the left reflex gate
O e plug i the left gates will provide a
a “ eutral"
bass character.
Si ce the so ic characteristics depe ds o
the room a whole ra ge of exter al
factors, there exists o "sta dard" setti g
for a eutral represe tatio .
Room tu i g will also have i flue ce o
the efficie cy you will have to adjust the
volume, f
reque cy a d High Pass i the
room tu i g modes.
"Quick" bass explai ed:
By this we mea a bass with less deep bass
i formatio . This might also be called
