Memo is an interactive playground device with 7 posts placed on a circular field with a diameter of 8
meters. You can play different games on Memo using the 360 degree touch sensitive colour displays on
the posts. Game feedback is visible on the displays, and sounds add to the play experience.
Memo works intuitively: you can choose the games using one button in the main post in the middle:. Each
game starts with a short explanation after which the player can discover and play the game any way he
wants.
The various games are a balanced mix between fun and education, each one challenging for a wide
spectrum of users. For example there are sporty games in which you have to tag as much posts as
possible, but also math games where you have to use your brain to win.
Thanks to the wireless internet connection of the Memo the games get regular updates, and new games
and functions can be added in the future.

1. What is Memo?

NB. Detailed installation instructions can be found in the Memo installation manual. In this product
manual only the necessary preparations and general information are mentioned.
Installing Memo
Memo exists of 1 master post, and 6 basic posts. The master post is placed in the middle of the play floor
and contains the main computer and connection to the main power supply.
The 6 basic posts are placed in a circle of 6 meters diameter around the master post.
Each post is fixed to the ground with 4 bolts.
For the play floor, we recommend to use artificial turf/grass as this looks good, is cost effective and has
a nice feeling. Other possibilities are for example rubber pour, painting on concrete (tiles), or whatever
may seem suitable. Each surface and location will have a different installation approach. Please contact
Yalp for the possibilities.
Mains power
The Memo can be installed on mains power (230V AC).
Every Memo comes with an adapter to connect the 230V to. It is important to use a double shielded
power cable for safety reasons, and have this installed on a separate group. The power cable will go into
the master post of the Memo. The type of power cable to use: Ymvk ground cable, 2 cores, 2,5mm².

3. Online settings
You can manage your own device(s). Go to http://www.yalpinteractive.com/ and click ‘login’. Log in with
your user name and password, which is sent after signing the service agreement.

PRODUCTS
‘Products’ has 3 submenu’s:
-’My products’: shows your products to manage
-’Online products’: shows your products which are online
-’Offline products’: shows your products which are online

By clicking on ‘my locations’ you can select a product by location.
RANKING
In ‘ranking’ you will find the playtime of all products. You can see which product is most used.
HELP
In ‘help’ you can find the product manual per product.
INFO
In ‘info’ you can change your account settings, contact us or log off.
Homepage: click on ‘products’ and ‘my products’ to manage your products.

Statistics are shown per product.
For each product you can look into the log. The log shows detailed back-
ground information that may help with problem solving.

In setup you can set the on/off time, the volume, the languages and
select games.

General
The Memo has different games to play, and more will be developed in the future. The key words of these
games are: SIMPLE, OPEN and FUN with a twist of BRAINS. Children will be challenged to use their own
fantasy and creativity.
Memo games can be activated on http://my.yalp.nl (chapter 3). A maximum of 5 games can be active at
the same time, to make it simple for the users. If a new game becomes available it will be uploaded on
your Memo.
With a push on the button of the master post a choice can be made from the active games. Each active
game is represented on screen by a game icon. Start the game by touching its icon. Each game starts
with the game name, followed by a short explanation. If you push the button while playing a game, the
game menu will appear for a few seconds and another game can be chosen.
After a minute of not playing, the Memo will turn into ‘idle-mode’ (standby). When the Memo senses
someone touching a display, it responds to it by making a noise and/or displaying some cool effects.

4. Games
Dizzy
Choose a team colour: red or green. Turn around a post, touching it, to conquer it for your
team. The longer you turn, the more the post will take on your team’s colour. Red turns one
way, green the other. If the post is totally coloured in one colour, it can not be conquered
back. The team that conquers most of the posts within time wins.
Matty
Solve math equations together with your friends. On each basic post a math equation ap-
pears. Choose the right answer on each post. After you finished all equations, check your
score by touching the middle post. It will tell you how many equations are right. If you have
all equations right, the game will go to the next level. Try to reach a high level by working
together!

Switch
Team ‘yellow’ plays against team ‘blue’. By touching a post, it changes colour. Try to con-
quer as many post in your colour. The team who has conquered the most posts in their
colour wins. Or win instantly by being the first to conquer 6 poles!
Ta g
Before starting the game, each player chooses its own colour to play with. As soon as the
game starts each player will have to touch the post that has ‘his’ colour as soon as possi-
ble. Beware: Time will get less with each round! Who can touch the most posts?
Memory
Find the same symbols. You can play this game with multiple players.
Everyone tries to conquer the symbols in its own color. Remember where all the symbols
are hidden, use your brain to win!
Runner
Two players race against each other. Hit the next post as fast as possible., but watch out
the colors can switch from the inside to the outside. The first player who runs two rounds
around the posts wins!
ABC
Hit the letters as fast as possible in the order of the alpaabet. When all letters are hit cor-
rectly the roundtime will show up. The player with the fastest roundtime wins!

Controlling the sound
Each Memo post has a speaker emitting sound. The speaker is aimed at the player nearby. The total
sound volume and on/off times scan be controlled on http://my.yalp.nl (chapter 3) . This way, the sound
can always be controlled to meet the sound regulations on location.
Multiple language versions
If your Memo has multiple language versions available then the preferred default language can be
selected on http://my.yalp.nl (chapter 3).
You can make more then one language active at the same time, by selecting multiple boxes at ‘settings’.
If you select no languages, the Memo will use the default language.
Switch language with button
If your Memo is equipped with multiple language versions, and more then one language is active, these
can also be switched using the button on the Memo. Press the button longer then 3 seconds and the
Memo will switch to another language.
If no languages are selected, the Memo will switch to idle (‘standby’) mode when it is pressed longer then
5 seconds.

Memo is a sustainable design. That works two ways: all materials and products are tested heavily and are
designed to be longlasting in the outdoor public space.
Next to that Memo is designed using the guidelines of corporate social responsibiliy. A few examples are
mentioned to give an insight in this way of desiging.
Quality
Yalp, as a developer, stands for quality. We are aware of the impact of a product in the outdoor space
that is exposed to intensive use, vandalism and various weather circumstances. Ways we took quality to
the next level in the Memo design are:
• High quality material. Memo uses premium materials like galvanized construction steel and
stainless steel, protected by a powdercoat finish. The display uses high impact resistant
polycarbonate with a special anti-scratch and UV protective coating.
• Tests. The Memo is intesively tested on weather and vandalism influences. By doing these tests
the designers have implemented many improvements during the design phase like protection
against humidity in the screen, visibility of the LED display, and resistance of the posts against
heavy blows and fireworks.
• Prototypes. Using prototypes in user testing resulted in improving and fine tuning different game
designs to be very easy to play with a lot of fun.
• Certification. Memo is designed in accordance with the European EN1176 safety regulations on
playground devices.
• Quality certificate: ISO9001. Yalp has a ISO9001 certificate. This guarantees all quality
processes at Yalp are properly safeguarded.
• Knowledge. The designers at Yalp are academically schooled Industrial Design Engineers and
have a lot of experience in developing succesful interactive play concepts for the public space.
• Passion. Last but not least. Our designers are very passionate about designing playground
devices and are very demanding when it comes to quality in the designs.
Social responsibility:
Yalp is quite unique in achieving a 4 star rating on social responibility in the Netherlands. In the Memo
design social responsibilities means:
• Choosing suppliers: For example the steel in Memo is protected by a powdercoat finish, choosing
a supplier that is committed to a coating process with regard to the environment, using limited
recources and reducing waste. We demand this type of commitment from all of our suppliers.
• Locally: Memo is a Dutch product, using mainly local suppliers within a 50 km range of Yalp. This
way, transportation impact is reduced.
• Recycle: Use of recycable and recycled material like PE for the caps.
• Re-usability: Parts of Memo are easy to dismount for repair and refurbishing. Or if a part is
broken: it can easily be recycled. Loose parts can be replaced by new ones if necessary, there is
no need to replace or disband the whole product.
• Standardization: The product design takes into account standardization on dimensions, parts
and materials. This way, waste is reduced to a minimum and no extra life cycles are started.
• Environment: Yalp is ISO14001 certified, which means an externally controlled environment
management system makes sure impact to environment stays as low as possible as a natural
way of working.

To maintain Memo in optimal shape, we advice to clean all posts regularly (at least twice a year) with a
soft humid cloth with mild detergent.
We give warranty on the Memo. The warranty terms are determined for the different parts:
• 3 years expiring warranty on all electronics and interactive panels (first year 100% warranty,
second year 2/3rd, 3rd year 1/3rd warranty of part price)
• 10 year warranty on the steel construction
