
UsingAn OptionalAC PowerAdaptor
Plug the DCoutput cablefrom an optional Yamaha PA-5 AC PowerAdaptor
into theDCIN jack on the rearpanelofthe PSR-400/PSR-500,then plug the AC
cableofthe PowerAdaptorintoa convenient wall AC power socket.
The internal batteries areautomatically disconnected when an AC Power Adap-
torisused.
•UseONLYa YamahaPA-5 AC PowerAdaptortopoweryour instrumentfrom theAC mains.
OtheradaptorsmaybedamagedbyusewiththePSR-400/PSR-500,andtheymay even
causeseriousdamagetoyourPSR-400/PSR-500.

Caution:
1.Whenthebatteriesrundown,replacethemwithacompletesetof sixnewbatteries.
NEVER mixoldandnewbatteries.
2.Donotusedifferentkindsofbatteriesatthesametime.
3.Topreventpossibledamageduetobatteryleakage,removethebatteriesfrom theinstru-
mentifitisnottobeusedforanextendedperiodoftime.
*IffreshbatteriesoranAC adaptorarenotimmediatelyavailable,itmaybepossibleto use
thePSR-400/PSR-500foralittlewhilelongerbyturningthepoweroffandthenonagain,
andplayingata lowvolumesetting.
UsingBatteries
The PSR-400/PSR-500isinitially supplied with a setofbatteries.Depending on
storageconditions, the suppliedbatteriesmay not lastaslongasa fresh set.
When thebatteries needtobereplaced,"batt"will appearonthe MULTI DIS-
PLAY. When this display appearsthe PSR-400/PSR-500will not operate,and the
power must beturned off while either thebatteriesarereplacedoran AC adaptoris
connected.*Internal data will beretained for up toabout 10minutes while the
batteriesarechangedoran AC adaptorisconnected.
When the batteriesfail, replacethem with six1.5VSUM-1, "D"size,R-20 or
equivalent batteries, asfollows:
1.Openthe battery compartment coverlocatedon the instrument's bottom panel
andremovetheoldbatteries.
2.Insertthe sixnew batteries,being careful tofollow the polaritymarkings on the
inside ofthe compartment.
3.Replace the compartment cover,making sure that itlocksfirmly in place.
Your PSR-400orPSR-500 will run either from batteries*oran optionalpower
adaptor. Followthe instructions below according to the power sourceyou intendto
use.
* WhenbatteriesareusedthesoundofthePSR-400/PSR-500maybedistortedat highvol-
umelevels.Thisisbecausethepoweroftheamplifierisreducedwhenbatteriesareused.
