PERFORMANCE
Air cleaners are effective only when air is circulated through
them. So, it is unrealistic to expect complete removal of all
contaminants. However, the efficiency of the Deluxe Media Air
Cleaner actually increases with use, and removes a very high
percentage of the pollutants from the circulated air. There is
pollution in air everywhere—even in the air we normally consider
fresh outdoor air. The infiltration of outside air into the home is
minimized by keeping doors and windows closed as much as
possible, therefore, increasing the indoor air quality.
You may have purchased your air cleaner for allergy relief. Allergy
cases differ widely—and the Deluxe Media Air Cleaner is not a
sure cure for any allergy. However, if you suffer from allergies
caused by pollen, mold, spores, dust and other airborne allergens,
this efficient air cleaner can be highly beneficial because it removes
up to 99% of these pollutants from the air passing through it.
The reduction of household dust, tobacco smoke particulate and
smudging particles may have been the motivating influence in
your decision to have an air cleaner installed. The Deluxe Media
Air Cleaner removal efficiency of these very fine particles and
pollutants reaches up to 95%. It follows, then, that since there are
less of these particles in the air, you may expect a reduction in the
necessity for dusting and cleaning and a longer time interval
between redecorating.
Thank you for your recent Deluxe Media Air Cleaner purchase. We sincerely appreciate your business and are pleased to add your name to
our growing list of customers. With this purchase, you have invested in the highest quality equipment currently available.
Please be assured that in addition to product quality, we are also committed to unit performance as well as customer satisfaction.

Particle sizes of pollutants vary and are measured in microns. A
micron is 1/25, 400th of an inch. A commonly used illustration of
their size is that it would take 200 microns to reach across a dot
made by a sharp pencil. Figure 1 shows the range of sizes, in
microns, of the most common pollutants.

MAINTENANCE
The Deluxe Media Air Cleaner requires no electrical component
service, is not affected by relative humidity or temperature. The
only maintenance required is the periodic replacement of the
disposable Source 1 Media which the homeowner can do in a few
minutes. The frequency of replacement will vary with operation
time, the amount of pollution generated in the home and is
affected by: number of people and their activities, the amount of
carpeting, pets, size of home, number of smokers, the pollution
level of the area. We recommend replacing the media each year.
However, if you do not run your blower continuously
(24 hours per day, 365 days per year) the media may last up to
two years. Air conditioning systems larger than 3.5 tons, or
heating systems larger than 130,000 BTUs per hour (1400 cfm),
will require more frequent attention if operated continuously.
Always remember that your Source 1 Media is at its lowest
efficiency point when it is new. Efficiency increases with usage.
There is no efficiency or performance benefit from
replacing your media too often.
To obtain replacement media, please proceed as follows:
• Call the installer of your Deluxe Media Air Cleaner.
This information is often found on your equipment.
• Call us at 800-910-9675.
Detailed instructions on the easy replacement of the Source 1
Media are furnished with each replacement media.
For fulfillment of warranty parts, call us at 800-910-9675.
Use only genuine Source 1 Model S1-FM201 replacement media
(for Model 2025 Deluxe Media Air Cleaner) or Model S1-FM401
replacement media (for Model 1625 Deluxe Media Air Cleaner)
from your heating/cooling contractor. Imitation replacement filters
have less filtering surface area which equates to shorter service
life. In addition they are not as efficient as genuine Source 1
replacement media preventing you from maintaining the superior
air cleaning performance you originally purchased.
OPERATION
Household dust is typically an accumulation of particles in a size
range of .01 micron (1/2,540,000th of an inch—invisible to the
naked eye) up to 100 microns (the diameter of a human hair).
Pollens and spores, which can aggravate allergy symptoms, are
usually in the 10-100 micron size range.
The efficiency of the Source 1 Media on the smallest particle
which can be seen with the naked eye (approximately 10 microns)
reaches 99%.
The visible household dust particles, and nearly all pollen and
spore particles, therefore, can be caught and permanently held,
very easily,
if you can get them to the air cleaner.
With central
high efficiency air cleaners, the blower of your heating/air
conditioning system performs the air movement function.
Continuous air cleaning will be accomplished when your
thermostat is set for continuous air circulation. If continuous air
cleaning is not required, or desired, you can manually set your
control for any time period you desire. Many thermostats have a
switch position for manual fan. “Automatic” turns on the blower
only when heating or cooling is required. “Fan” or “manual”
allows you to control blower operation.
For those who choose periodic cleaning, (as opposed to
continuous cleaning through continuous furnace blower
operation), the most important period is during—and for several
hours after—vacuuming your home. The vacuuming process
(unless you have a central vacuum system) stirs up a large volume
of dust particles which must be drawn into your air cleaner.
Many of the dust particles generated, while vacuuming, are so
heavy they “fall” out of the airstream before they can be drawn
out of your living area. This is why it is important to do household
dusting several hours after vacuuming. Normally once the heavy
particles “fall out”, they are only reintroduced to the air by
vacuuming, or similarly vigorous activity.
Where allergy symptoms, which are aggravated by pollens and
spores, are a concern, continuous cleaning is strongly encouraged.
To recap, when removing household dust is the major benefit you are
seeking, you should operate your air cleaner during and following
periods when dust is being generated or “stirred up”. For pollens and
spores which aggravate an allergy condition, your cleaner must be
operated continuously when these pollutants are in the environment.
The air cleaner can only be effective when air containing the
contaminants is drawn through the high efficiency media.
