1 Safety Instructions
1.1 Specific Condition of Use
The BM24L10 series
1
weighing sensors are suitable for technical weighing applications within the
specified environment and measuring range, and are not suitable for any purpose beyond
the specified range.
The sensor has to be installed by qualified personnel in accordance with safety specifications,
technical requirements and these installation instructions.
In addition, please properly transport, store, install and operate with care according to the
installation and cleaning instructions.
1.2 Safety Loading
The load cell must be operated in accordance with the technical data sheet, in particular, the
specified safety overload requirement.
It must be noted that when multiple load cells are mounted on single scale, the load on
every single load cell is not always evenly distributed and care must be taken not to overload them.
1.3 Used as Equipment Unit
The load cell can be used as an equipment unit. However, it must be noted that in order to improve
the output sensitivity, the design of the load cell does not conform to the common safety factors in
mechanical design. Please refer to the "Safety Loading" and "Technical Specifications" for details.
1.4 Additional Safety Precautions
As a passive component, when the equipment fails, the sensor does not have any ability to actively
cut off the fault, nor does it perform any obligation to actively cut off the fault.
This function needs to be considered and designed by the users themselves.
If the load cell fails or breaks and may cause damage to the equipment or casualties, the user must
take appropriate safety measures, such as automatic emergency shutdown, overload protection,
and other anti-fall protection, etc.
1
‘series’ refers to the fact that this model load cell is available in three different capacities with the same outer dimensions.

1.5 General Risk of Non-Compliance with Safety Instructions
The sensor is designed to be reliable, but may be at risk if it is improperly installed, positioned and
operated, or if it is installed, positioned and operated by untrained personnel. Any personnel
related to operation or maintenance must read and understand the installation instructions,
technical specifications and cleaning instructions carefully, particularly the technical specifications
and cleaning method, otherwise it may lead to damage of the sensor(s), and may result in property
damage and/or injuries of personnel nearby.
1.6 Product Changes and Modifications
For design and safety reasons, users are prohibited any change or modification to the sensor unless
expressly approved by ZEMIC. We are not responsible for any loss caused by any change or
modification without permission. Any modification without permission immediately voids warranty.

Note: 1) The loading point is allowed to have appropriate deflection angle, but within 5°.
2) The customer's bottom mounting plate shall have at least a bevel of 3° ~ 5° for liquid discharge/draining.

Fix the bottom of the sensor on the mounting hole, and apply the load from the top.
ZEMIC provides a round sealing ring for sealing the gap between the lower end of the sensor and
the customer's bottom mounting plate to prevent microbial contamination.
This sealing ring has an FDA approval (silicone rubber RH200-50).
The sensor has a small ridge on top the rubber coating from the cup, that creates a seal between the
sensor and the customer’s top mounting plate. No additional sealing is necessary there.
The EHEDG guideline recommends a minimum clearance between the equipment and the floor or
wall of 300mm for easy access for cleaning and inspection.
Make sure the required screws have dome shaped heads and are EHEDG compliant/approved.

2.2 Pre-Cautions
During the sensor installation process, the following matters should be noted:
1) Operate the sensor carefully; do not to bump or scratch the unit, do not pull the cable.
2) During on-site installation, welding current shall not pass through the sensor. If this can’t be
avoided during installation, an appropriate low Ohmic resistance connection must be made to
bypass the sensor electrically before welding.
3) Ensure that overload of the sensor’s capacity is to be prevented at all times.
If possible, the customer is to install a mechanical overload protection.
As with precision measuring components, the sensor should be handled with care.
Any knock or drop may cause permanent damage to the sensor.
4) Install the sensor(s) according to the directions given in the EHEDG documents e.g. 8, 13 etc.
E.g. mount the sensor(s) in a self-draining orientation, which means that the angles will be
chosen in such a way that fluids can be drained completely by gravity alone.
5) In case welded adapters/mounting plates, etc. are used, the food contact surfaces must have a
surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, adapters must be TIG welded. Directions for welding are
given in EHEDG documents 9 and 35.
6) Install the sensor with the first 100mm of the cable exiting the cable gland in perpendicular
fashion, so that the cables’ own weight is supported and no bending at the gland is possible.

3 Cleaning
3.1 Cleaning Method
This sensor is a hygienic sensor, suitable for food, medical, biological and other application fields,
following the EHEDG design principles, including the absence of horizontal ledges, for draining.
The sensor is structurally easy to clean, and the result should be the same, no matter what cleaning
method the customer uses, such as dry cleaning and wet cleaning.
The sensor is suitable for wet cleaning without dismantling, so during cleaning, the sensor must not
be dismantled.
Recommended cleaning methods are as follows:
1) Dry cleaning, using tools including rag and/or a soft brush.
2) Wet cleaning, using wet cloth, chemicals, low pressure clean water.
3.2 Pre-Cautions
The operator should pay attention to the following matters in the cleaning process:
1) Cleaning carefully to prevent scratches on the outer surface of the sensor caused by cleaning
tools.
2) Regular cleaning to prevent dirt and micro-organisms from gathering and breeding.
3) Carefully clean, and the cleaning scope should include all leakage surfaces of the sensor.
4) When using chemicals for wet cleaning, the pH value of the chemical solution shall be between
5 and 9, and hydrofluoric acid shall NOT be used for cleaning.
5) High pressure cleaning is prohibited! When using low pressure clean water for wet cleaning, the
water pressure shall not exceed 0.3Mpa (3 bar).
Figure 3-1 is the schematic diagram of using low pressure clean water for cleaning:

Furthermore, care must be given to the fasteners.
When fasteners are required, only domed head screws and nuts must be used.
These need to be EHEDG compliant and approved.
The exposed interfaces need to be sealed with sealing washers and there must be no threads
exposed in the installed configuration of the machine feet.
The rubber sealing ring that is used to seal the space between the sensor and the bottom mounting
plate is included with the sensor.
This sealing ring (made from silicone rubber RH200-50) has an FDA approval.

4.2 Pre-Cautions
In the process of connecting cables, the following matters should be paid attention to:
1) Pay attention to protection during connection, and do not damage the cable jacket.
2) In general, it is not recommended to extend the cable. If this is a must, choose shielded, low
capacitance cables and make sure they are well connected with low contact resistance.
3) Do not set the sensor cable in parallel with the power circuit and control circuit on the
installation site. If this is necessary, the sensor cables need to be shielded and protected.
