I. THEORY OF OPERATION
INTENDEND USE: The Zentox Pure Air 500 air
purification device by Photox™ reduces airborne
microorganisms in enclosed area such as medical
treatment rooms, hospital wards and healthcare
facilities.
Not for use in an oxygen rich environment.
II. DESCRIPTION
The Zentox Pure Air 500 unit consists of four (4)
Catalytic Reaction Modules, (CRM’s) that act as active
surfaces in which the air being treated passes through.
The CRM’s consist of a high airflow (low pressure drop)
glass fiber media coated with the catalyst to oxidize
VOC’s.
The design is such that all air passes through the CRM’s
with no undesirable short-circuiting or “by-passing” of the
catalytic surfaces.
The CRM’s are pleated to maximize the reactive surface
area.
The Zentox Pure Air 500 unit is equipped with four (4),
36-watt, Germicidal UV lamps, one directed at each
CRM for maximum efficiency. Air is circulated through
the unit by means of a variable speed fan that is capable
of moving up to 500 scfm. Air is drawn into the unit on
all four sides of the unit, and then moves into the
reaction zone where the Zentox Pure Air process occurs.
Treated air is then discharged out the top of the unit in

6
four different directions. This design facilitates effective
air circulation in the room and accomplishes a complete
turnover of the room air every 7 minutes in a 20’ X 20’ X
10’ room.
The unit has only one moving part, a fan to draw in the
air to be treated, and recirculated in the room. The unit
consumes very little power and can be safely operated
continuously when used according to this manual.

IV. OPERATION
A. Remove the unit from its' packing box. Insure all
packing materials are removed from the louvers to
insure correct airflow.
Warning Risk of Suffocation –Plastic bags can be
dangerous. To avoid danger of suffocation, keep bag
away from babies and children.
B. The UV lamps are shipped with the unit but are not
installed. Follow the yellow quick reference installation
instruction sheet included in the box to install UV lamps
prior to operation. Instructions for installation of UV
lamps can be found in this manual beginning on page
15.

7
C. Place the unit in a dry, out of the way area. Make
sure that there is a minimum of six (6) inches of
clearance around the unit to allow for a proper airflow.
The attached wheels allow for easy maneuverability of
the cabinet.
Insure wheel lock is disengaged prior to moving unit.
D. Set On/Off switch in the “Off” position.
E. Insert power cord into power receptacle. Insure
there is power to the outlet.
Place cord to avoid trip hazard!
F. Turn the knob on the front of the unit in a clockwise
direction to the HIGH Position. This will turn the unit on
and will turn on the lamps and the fan to its maximum
speed. There should be air movement through the unit.
(The unit has a variable speed fan, which can be used to
reduce the airflow and sound level by turning the Knob in
a clockwise direction.) Airflow can be verified by
detecting a slight breeze at the top of the unit. If not,
turn off unit and make sure there is a power connection.
It is also possible that the unit may have a blown a fuse.
Refer to Section VI, Unscheduled Maintenance, of this
manual for instructions on how to replace the fuse.
CAUTION: Do not place items and /or liquids on top of
unit.
For dry locations only
Pour emplacements secs seulement

V. SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
User responsible for compliance with medical
disinfection protocols.
It is recommended that the Catalytic Reaction Module
(CRM) and Ultraviolet (UV) Lamp be changed annually.
The CRM in a normal room with light dust, should be
changed once every 8,500 hours of operation
(Approximately once per year). The CRM should be
replaced with genuine Zentox Pure Air CRM.
This unit is equipped with an hour meter on the front
panel which records operating hours.
Although the CRM is not consumed during operation it
will become fouled with dust that will interfere with
airflow and the unit’s efficiency. In environments where
the air is heavily laden with dust, the CRM should be
changed more frequently. Optimal indoor air quality will
be achieved by proper maintenance of the Zentox Pure
AirTM Advanced Air Purification System. Failure to
replace CRM as recommended will reduce the efficiency
in the operation of the Zentox Pure Air™Advanced Air
Purification System.
The UV lamps have an operating life of 8,500 hours.
This equates to approximately one year of operation at
twenty-four hours a day. The lamps should be replaced
with genuine Zentox Pure Air™lamps.

9
Dust will also accumulate on the surface of the lamps,
thus decreasing effectiveness. It is suggested that the
lamps be checked periodically for particle build-up and
cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.
When handling a UV lamp, wear clean gloves or
wrap a cloth around lamp to avoid oil from
hands getting on surface of lamp. If a lamp
picks up fingerprints or other smudges, wipe off
thoroughly with glass cleaner and a clean cloth
before operating the unit. Failure to keep lamps
clean of fingerprints or smudges will significantly
reduce the life of the UV lamp.
Be sure to record the date and service done on
the Service Record that is located on the inside
of the back cover of this manual.
A. Opening the unit
1. To remove the UV lamps, open lid by removing one
Phillips™ head screw from the front of the unit (See

CAUTION: Unit is top heavy when lid is open for
service.
B. Removing the CRMs
1. After opening the cabinet, remove all 4 CRM’s by
sliding modules upward and out of their retaining
sleeves. (See Figure 3)

13

2. Install new CRM’s by reversing the process of
removal.
Use caution when the lid is open to prevent injury
from falling lid.
The CRMs cannot be cleaned and re-used.
The CRMs should be installed so the
indicator arrow on the CRM points towards
the UV lamps. Improper installation will
reduce the operating efficiency of the
Advance Air Purification System.
Replace the UV lamp, if necessary, before
installing a new CRM.
NOTE

14
Replace UV lamps and CRM(media) after one year or
cumulative use of a maximum of 8,000 hours.
C. Removing the UV Lamps
1. Lift the Light Shield out and set it aside (see Fig. 4).

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all 4 lamps before installing
any new UV Lamps.
NOTE
UV lamps may be disposed of in a
similar manner as fluorescent lamps.
D. Installing new UV Lamps
NOTE

17
Be sure to install a genuine Zentox Pure
AirTM replacement lamp.
When handling the new UV lamps,
wear clean gloves or wrap a cloth
around lamp to avoid oil from hands
getting on surface of lamp. If lamp
picks up fingerprints or other
smudges, wipe off thoroughly with
glass cleaner and a clean cloth before
operating the unit. Failure to keep the
lamp clean of fingerprints or smudges
will significantly reduce the life of the
UV lamp.
1. Grasp the lamp near the plug at one end.
2. Gently press the lamp so that the metal support clip
snaps between the tubes of lamp. (see Figure 7).

VI. UNSCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
Unplug unit from power source before servicing.
A. Power Protection: The Zentox Pure Air™unit has a
fuse for electrical protection. If the fuse has blown,
check and if necessary correct the condition that caused
the fuse to blow. A new fuse can be easily installed in its
receptacle located near the power cord at the rear
bottom of unit.

Fusible 5 Amperes
Relamp with MAX: 36 watt TYPE: PL-L 36W/TUV
Use only 125/250-Volt Fuse, 5 Amp Max
Air quality benefits will be lost with loss of power.
B. No attempts should be made to service or replace
any of the other components in the unit except those
listed above. Should any other component need
replacing, please contact Zentox Corporation for Return
Authorization and shipping information.
