InstallingtheRouter
Connect theADSL LineandTelephone
•Connectone end ofanRJ-11 cable fromyour ADSLconnectionand the other
end tothe LINEportofthe router.Use asecond RJ-11cable toconnect
betweenatelephone and the PHONEportofthe router.
Connect thePCtotheRouter
•TousetheEthernetconnection,connecttheEthernetcablefromthecomputer
directlytothe router.Connectone end ofthe Ethernetcable tothe port
labeledLANonthebackoftherouter andattach theother endtotheEthernet
portofyour computer.
•Or,youcanuse the suppliedUSBcabletoconnectyour computer directlyto
the router.Connectone end ofthe USBcable totheUSBportonthe backof
therouter andconnecttheother endtoafree USBportonyourPC.TheFound
New Hardware WizardwillopenonyourPC.See USBDriver Installationbelow.
•Ifyour LANhasmore thanone computer,youcanattach one end ofan
Ethernetcabletoahuboraswitch andtheother tothe Ethernetport(labeled
LAN) onthe router.Note that either acrossover orstraight-throughEthernet
cablecanbeused.Therouter automaticallyrecognizesthetypeofconnection
that isrequired.
Connect thePowerAdapter
•Complete the processbyconnecting the AC power adapter tothe POWER
connector onthe backofthe device and plug the adapter intoawall outletor
power strip.Thenturnonand bootup your PCand anyLANdevices, such as
hubsor switches,and anycomputersconnected tothem.

materialincluding concrete,wood,or drywall.Selectanappropriatelocationfreefrom
obstructionsor anypossibleinterference.Makesure the cablescanbe easilyattached
tothe router withoutstrain.The illustrationbelowshowshow tomountthe router
horizontallyonawall.

ConfiguringYourComputer
Prior toaccessing the router throughthe LANor the USBport,notethe following
necessaryconfigurations
•Your PC’sTCP/IP address:192.168.1.__( the lastnumber isanynumber
between2and 254)
•The router’sdefaultIP address: 192.168.1.1
•Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Beloware theproceduresforconfiguringyourcomputer.Followtheinstructionsforthe
operating systemthat youare using.
Windows2000
1. IntheWindowstaskbar,clickontheStartbuttonandpointtoSettings,Control
Panel,and Networkand Dial-up Connections(inthat order).
2. ClickonLocalAreaConnection.Whenyouhave the LocalAreaConnection
Statuswindow open,clickon Properties.
3. Listedinthewindoware theinstallednetworkcomponents. Ifthelistincludes
InternetProtocol(TCP/IP),thenthe protocolhasalreadybeenenabled,and
youcanskip toStep 10.
4. IfInternetProtocol(TCP/IP) doesnotappearasaninstalledcomponent,then
clickon Install.
5. IntheSelectNetworkComponentTypewindow,clickonprotocolandthenthe
Add button.
6. SelectInternetProtocol(TCP/IP) fromthelistand thenclickon OK.
7. Ifprompted torestartyour computer withthe new settings, click OK.
8. After your computer restarts,clickonthe Networkand Dial-up Connections
iconagain,and rightclickonthe LocalAreaConnectioniconand thenselect
Properties.
9. Inthe LocalAreaConnectionPropertiesdialog box,selectInternetProtocol
(TCP/IP) and thenclickon Properties.
10. Inthe InternetProtocol(TCP/IP) Propertiesdialog box,clickinthe radio
buttonlabeled UsethefollowingIPaddress and type 192.168.1.x (where
xisanynumber between2and254)and255.255.255.0intheIPaddress field
and SubnetMaskfield.
11. Clickon OK twice tosave your changesand thenclosethe ControlPanel.

components. Makesure the boxfor InternetProtocol(TCP/IP) ischecked and
thenclickon Properties.
4. Inthe InternetProtocol(TCP/IP) Propertiesdialog box,clickinthe radio
buttonlabeled UsethefollowingIPaddress and type 192.168.1.x (where
xisanynumber between2and254)and255.255.255.0intheIPaddress field
and SubnetMaskfield.
5. Clickon OK twice tosave your changesand thenclosethe ControlPanel.

Login to theRouter
Thissectionwillexplainhow tolog intoyour router using the following steps
1. Launch your web browser.
2. Enter the URL http://192.168.1.1 inthe address bar and press Enter.
A loginscreenlike theone belowwillbe displayed afteryouconnecttothe user
interface.
3. Enter your user name and password,and thenclickon OK todisplaythe
user interface.
NOTE:The user name /password are Admin/ Admin and case sensitive.

Tosetup your router withabasicconfiguration,fromthe Home page,selectSetup.
The page isdivided intotwosubsections LANconfigurationand WANconfiguration.
LAN Configuration
Ononesideofyourrouter,youhaveyourownLocalAreanetwork(LAN)connections.
Thisiswhere youplug inyour localcomputerstothe router.The router isnormally
configured toautomaticallyprovide allPCsonyour networkwithInternetaddresses.

The router also hasEthernetswitch capabilitiesfor the4physicalports.Selectthe
valueforeach enabledport.Valuesinclude auto,10/halfduplex,100/halfduplex,
100/halfduplex,and100/fullduplex.
Firewall /NATServices
The defaultsetting for firewall and NATservicesisenabled.

NewConnection
Before the router will pass anydata betweenthe LANinterface(s) and the WAN
interface,the WANside ofthe router mustbe configured.Depending uponyour DSL
service provider oryour ISP,youwill needsome (or all) ofthe following information
before youcanproperlyconfigure theWAN
•Your DSLline VPIand VCI
•Your DSLencapsulationtypeand multiplexing
•Your DSLtraining mode
For PPPoA or PPPoE users,youalsoneed these valuesfromyour ISP
•Your username and password
For RFC1483 (Bridged or RoutedIPOverATM) users, youmayneedthesevalues
fromyour ISP
•Your DSLfixed InternetIP address
•Your SubnetMask
•Your Defaultrouter
•Your primaryDNSIP address
Sincemultipleuserscanusetherouter,therouter cansimultaneouslysupportmultiple
connectiontypes. Hence,the user mustsetup differentprofilesfor each connection.

Username: The username for the PPPoA access;thisisprovided byyour DSLservice
provider oryour ISP.
Password: The password for the PPPoA access;thisisprovided byyour DSLservice
provider oryour ISP.
IdleTimeout: Specifiesthat PPPoA connectionshoulddisconnectifthe linkhasno
activitydetected for nseconds.Thisfield isused inconjunctionwiththe On-Demand
feature.Toensure that thelinkisalwaysactive,enter a0inthisfield.
KeepAlive: Whenon-demand optionisnotenable,thisvalue specifiesthe timeto
waitwithoutbeing connected toyour provider before terminating the connection.To
ensure that the linkisalwaysactive,enter a0inthisfield.
On-Demand: Enableson-demand mode.The connectionwilldisconnectifnoactivity
isdetected after the specified idle timeoutvalue.
SetRoute: Specifythisconnectionasthe default-route.
Debug:EnablesPPPoA connectiondebugging facilities.
Modem
Selectthe modulationtype fromthe listand click Apply tocontinue.
Bridge
A pure bridged connectiondoesnotassignand IP address totheWANinterface.NAT
and firewall rulesare notenabled.Thisconnectionmethod makesthe router actasa
hub,and justpassespacketsacross theWANinterfacetothe LANinterface.

Toconfigure therouter asabridge,fromtheHomepage,clickonSetupandthenclick
onNew Connection.ThedefaultPPPoEconnectionsetupisdisplayed.AttheTypefield
selectBridge and the Bridge connectionsetup pageisdisplayed.Give your Bridge
connectionaunique name;the name mustnothave spacesand cannotbeginwith
numbers. Selectthe encapsulationtype (LLCor VC);ifyouare notsure justuse the
defaultmode.Selectthe VPIand VCIsettings;your DSLservice provider or yourISP
willsupplythese.Alsoselectthequalityofservice(QOS);leavethedefaultvalueifyou
are unsure or the ISP did notprovide thisinformation.
