OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
This operation and maintenance manual is an integral part of the M2 milling unit comfort line and
must be kept in a place known to the operator and easily and immediately accessible at all times.
The milling units may only be operated by fully trained people.
For reasons of readability, the milling units are summarised under the designation M2 milling unit
or milling unit, if the given information applies to both milling units. In addition, the masculine
form is chosen for designating people but all indications refer to members of all sexes.
This operation and maintenance manual contains all the information required for the safe use of
the M2 and M2 Dual milling units produced by Zirkonzahn srl. However, it is not intended to
replace a training course with regard to the scope of application.
The participation in a CAD/CAM training course offered by Zirkonzahn is recommended.
Operational capability and long-term value of the system can only be guaranteed if service and
maintenance work prescribed in the appendix are carried out.
This manual is subject to amendments at Zirkonzahn's sole discretion in the event of technical
further development.
This operation and maintenance manual is a translation of the original German version. Translations in
several languages are available directly in the Zirkonzahn.Fräsen software which belongs to the milling
unit and can be called up by clicking on “More”. An updated version, if available, can be requested

materials can - depending on the equipement - be processed precisely and particularly cleanly with
dry or wet processing.
The proven 5+1 axis simultaneous milling technology with extra large Teleskoper Orbit (Ø 125 mm)
ensures optimal milling results. Also hard-to-reach areas, such as undercuts and divergences can be
milled without any problems. In addition, several workpieces (e.g. glass ceramics,

The milling chamber is spaciously designed, optimally illuminated and easily accessible and
viewable. Via integrated PC, milling processes and calibration processes can be started and
elaboration tools can be loaded. In the contamination-protected tool chamber with 21-compartment
tool changer, milling tools are automatically exchanged and organised. The M2 Dual milling
units are equipped with two milling chambers as well as a contamination-protected tool chamber
containing 3 magazines with 21 tool slots each and an automatic tool changer function. The optical

tools makes sure that the correct tools are used. The milling unit has an automatic self-cleaning
and drying function as well as a cleaning kit for manual cleaning.
Functional description of the milling unit
The M2 milling unit works with 5+1 axes simultaneous milling technology. The CNC control data
of the toolpaths are generated by the CAM system.
The mechanical, pneumatic and electronic components are arranged in a sturdy tubular frame
whose surface are made with safety glass. The frame, equipped with a printed circuit board on
the rear side as well as an air purge system, protects the mechanical, pneumatic and electronic
components from dusts. The anti-scratch safety glass is also easy to clean and gives the milling
unit a fresh look even after years of intensive use.

USAGE
ZIRKONZAHN – OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE M2 MILLING UNIT COMFORT LINE – VERSION: 19/05/2021
INTENDED USE
The M2 milling unit was designed exclusively for the manufacture of dental restorations,
but can also be used for the production of jewellery.
The M2 milling unit is designed for processing the following materials:
- Zirconia*
- Dental resins*
- Wax*
- Sintermetall*
- Composite*
- Titanium* (can only be milled with wet processing function)
- Cobalt-Chromium*
- Wood*
- Glass ceramics
- Raw-Abutments®(prefabricated titanium abutments)
*In principle, all Zirkonzahn materials are suitable for the corresponding categories.
The processing of third party materials in this system is not recommended due to the lack of
coordination regarding tools as well as milling strategies.
It is recommended to use only Zirkonzahn original burs with a 6 mm shank diameter!
USAGE

CHAPTER
USAGE
ZIRKONZAHN – OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE M2 MILLING UNIT COMFORT LINE – VERSION: 19/05/2021
For using this milling unit, a basic dental technical knowledge is required. The participation in a
CAD/CAM training course offered by Zirkonzahn is recommended.
The M2 milling unit can only be operated with a suitable extraction unit (see technical data).
Directive "2004/37/EC - Protection against the risks related to exposure to carcinogens or

Zirkonzahn assumes no liability for any damage to health caused by possible dust exposure in
connection with the milling unit.
Direct contact between rotating tools and the user is excluded when the system is used correctly.
NOT INTENDED USE
Uses that are not described in the chapter "Intended use" do not fall within the scope of intended use.
The manufacturer declines any responsibility for this.
Particular attention must be given to the following unintended and unauthorised uses:
- The machine is not conceived for processing sintered zirconia.
- The milling unit is not designed for operation in an explosive atmosphere and must not be used
in explosion-endangered areas.
- Important components of the milling unit work with oil-free compressed air (e.g. opening
the milling spindle). Operation without compressed air or with compressed air that does not
