OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
This operation and maintenance manual is an integral part of the M1 milling unit compact line and
must be kept in a place known to the operator and easily and immediately accessible at all times.
The milling units may only be operated by fully trained people.
For reasons of readability, the milling units are summarised under the designation M1 milling unit
or milling unit/machine, if the given information applies to both milling units. In addition, the
masculine form is chosen for designating people but all indications refer to users of all sexes.
This operation and maintenance manual contains all the information required for the safe use
of the M1 Abutment, M1 Soft, M1 Wet and M1 Wet Heavy Metal milling units produced by
Zirkonzahn srl. However, it is not intended to replace a training course with regard to the scope
of application.
The participation in a CAD/CAM training course offered by Zirkonzahn is recommended.
Operational capability and long-term value of the system can only be guaranteed if service and
maintenance work prescribed in the appendix are carried out.
This manual is subject to amendments at Zirkonzahn's sole discretion in the event of technical
further development.
This operation and maintenance manual is a translation of the original operating instructions.
Translations in several languages are available directly in the Zirkonzahn.Fräsen software which
belongs to the milling unit and can be called up by clicking on "More". An updated version,
if available, can be requested to Zirkonzahn headquarters in Gais (phone +39 0474 066 660;

GENERAL
ZIRKONZAHN – OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL M1 MILLING UNIT COMPACT LINE – VERSION: 13/05/2021
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE MILLING UNIT
The complete Compact Line is particularly compact and space saving and is characterised by its
extreme short milling times thanks to the fast engines. It can be combined in an optimal way with
the Zirkonzahn Scanner S600 ARTI and the user-friendly Zirkonzahn.Software. To avoid any
damage, the mechanical, pneumatic and electronic components are arranged in a sturdy tubular
frame structure whose four surfaces are made with special glass and equipped with a metal panel
on the rear side. Vibrations are dampened by rubber buffers.
The chosen version determines which indications can be processed with which materials:
With the M1 Abutment milling unit it is possible to produce individual titanium abutments out
of precast titanium abutment blanks (Raw-Abutments®) in a fast way. The M1 Soft milling unit
is particularly suitable for the dry processing of soft materials such as Sintermetall and zirconia.
With the integrated wet processing function, up to four glass ceramic blanks can be milled in a
single milling process with the M1 Wet milling unit. With its orbit built on four bearings and the
integrated wet processing function, the M1 Wet Heavy Metal milling unit is ideal for the milling
of hard metals such as titanium.
Functional description of the milling unit
The M1 milling unit is conceived for 4 axes processing (M1 Abutment) or 5+1 axes processing
with simultaneous milling technology. The CNC control data of the toolpaths are generated by
the CAM system. The entire milling process, including tool changing, is automated and takes
place in the machine's enclosed milling chamber. The process can be observed by the user at
any time via the integrated camera. Loading/unloading the orbit and the tool magazine, starting
the milling process, calibrating and cleaning the machine are the only processes that have to be
performed manually.

*In principle, all Zirkonzahn materials are suitable for the corresponding categories. The
processing of third party materials in this system is not recommended due to the lack of
coordination regarding tools as well as milling strategies.
It is recommended to use only Zirkonzahn original burs with a 3 or 6 mm shank diameter,
depending on the used milling spindle.
For using this milling unit, a basic dental technical knowledge is required. The participation in a
CAD/CAM training course offered by Zirkonzahn is recommended.

NOT INTENDED USE
Uses that are not described in the chapter "Intended use" do not fall within the scope of intended
use. The manufacturer declines any responsibility for this.
Particular attention must be given to the following unintended and unauthorised uses:
- The machine is not conceived for processing sintered zirconia.
- The milling unit is not designed for operation in an explosive atmosphere and must not be used
in explosion-endangered areas.
- Important components of the milling unit work with oil-free compressed air (e.g. opening
the milling spindle). Operation without compressed air or with compressed air that does not
