With the DMA-1100P you can:
• Play DVD-quality video, music and photo files on your TV or stereo instead of on your com-
puter.
• Connect the DMA-1100P directly to your computer or connect the DMA-1100P to multiple
computers on your wired home network.
• Use the standard electrical wiring in your house to connect to your computer(s) on a Home-
Plug AV powerline network.
• Play files from a USB memory stick or hard drive.
• Play podcasts from the Internet.
The following figure shows a DMA-1100P with a USB memory stick attached, and
connected to a computer through a powerline connection using a powerline adapter. The
DMA-1100P then plays files on a TV and/or stereo.

Use the following sections in this guide (in the listed order) to view files on computers or on
a USB stick.
1 Install the Media Server Software
You must install the media server software on each computer that you will use to share
files with the DMA-1100P.
"You can only install the media server software on a Windows XP/Vista
computer. See Requirements for more details.
1Put the CD into your CD-ROM. Click Setup.
VIf the Setup screen does not display, locate and double-click setup.exe.

2The installation wizard

to install the software.

3Enter your information in this
screen. Enter a user name (up to 64 ASCII characters recommended). The company
name is optional (up to 64 ASCII characters recommended). Click Registration in the
screen that opened when you inserted the CD-ROM. Then click Media Server Serial
Number to open a text file with a serial number. Copy and paste the serial number into
the Serial Number field in the screen shown here.

4Select a destination for the software (or just leave the default).
5You can specify a name for the media server that the DMA-1100P displays on your TV.
It is helpful to use unique names if you install the media server on multiple computers.
Up to 34 ASCII characters recommended.

6If you see a screen asking about configuring the Windows XP firewall, click Yes. This
allows the DMA-1100P to access the files on your computer that you share.
VRefer to the User’s Guide if your computer has another software firewall
(ZoneAlarm, for example) that you need to configure.
7This icon displays in the system tray (usually in the bottom right corner) after the
installation is done. Double-click the icon to open the server configuration screens.
8The Published Folder List lists folders of files that your computer will share with the
DMA-1100P.
•YourMy Music, My Pictures and My Videos folders are included by default.
• To share other files, click the Add Folder button and browse to select a folder that
you want to share.
• To remove a folder from the list, click it and then click Cancel Publication.

2 Connect Your DMA-1100P
Turn off your TV before you connect the DMA-1100P.
1If your TV has a HDMI connector, use an HDMI cable to connect the DMA-1100P’s
HDMI connector (shown) to the TV, as this provides the best quality video and audio.

2If your TV does not have an HDMI connector use the Video connector and, for your
audio, use either the Right/Left Audio connector or the SPDIF connector (better
quality).
AIf your TV or audio system has a coaxial S/PDIF jack, use RCA cables to connect it
to the DMA-1100P’s S/PDIF and Video jack (shown). If you use the red connector to
connect to the SPDIF jack (A), make sure you use the red connector to connect to
the SPDIF jack on your TV (B), as shown.
Bf your TV or audio system does not have a coaxial S/PDIF jack, use RCA cables to
connect it to the DMA-1100P’s LEFT, RIGHT and Video jacks (shown). Make sure
the color of your connectors matches the jack it is using.

3If you want to play files from a USB hard drive or a USB memory stick (A), connect it to
the DMA-1100P’s USB port. (The USB memory stick is shown as an example only,
yours may differ.)
4Connect to your computer directly or through a home network using an Ethernet cable
and/or a powerline connection.
ATo connect the DMA-1100P to your computer or home network with an Ethernet
cable, connect the cable to the LAN port on the DMA-1100P as shown (A). Connect
the same Ethernet cable to your computer directly, as shown (B), or connect it to a
router on your home network.

BTo connect the DMA-1100P to your computer or your existing HomePlug network
using a HomePlug connection, plug the DMA-1100P into a standard power outlet in
your home.
• Then use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer or router to a HomePlug
adapter such as ZyXEL’s PLA-400. Follow the instructions that came with your
HomePlug adapter.
• If your router is already HomePlug enabled, you do not need to connect it to a
HomePlug adapter.
• Finally, go to Options > Homeplug in the on-screen menu to give your DMA-1100P
the same network password as that of the HomePlug adapter you wish to connect
to.
To set up a HomePlug network, see the User’s Guide on the CD that came with the pack-
age.
5Connect the POWER socket to a power source using only the included power cord.
6Your computer should already be turned on. Turn on the TV and the DMA-1100P.
2.1 Check the LEDs (Lights)
Look at the front of the device.
1The power light ( ) comes on.
2The LAN light ( ) comes on if you are connected to a computer with the LAN cable.
3The HomePlug light ( ) comes on if you are connected to another HomePlug device.
4The USB light ( ) turns on if you have attached a USB memory stick or hard drive.
VCheck your connections if the lights do not come on.
