Overview
Use the Prestige for secure Internet access. Refer to the User’s Guide for more information. You need to know
your Internet access information.
The following lists what you need to do:

1 Hardware Connections
You need the following items:
• One AC-DC power adaptor
• One RJ-45 Ethernet cable
• One twisted-pair (RJ-11) telephone cable
• A computer
Follow the instructions to make minimum hardware connection for initial setup.
1Using a telephone cable, connect one LINE port to a telephone jack with Internet access.
2Using an Ethernet cable, connect a computer to one of the LAN ports.
3Connect the PWR socket to a power source using only the included power adaptor for your region.
4Push in the power button to turn on the Prestige.
1.1 The LEDs
When you connect the power, the PWR LED turns on. The SYS LED
blinks while performing system testing. The SYS LED stays on if the
testing is successful.
The appropriate LAN and LINE LEDs turn on if the corresponding connections are properly made.

2 Set Up Your Computer’s IP Address
This section shows you how to set up your computer to use a fixed private IP address in Windows 2000,
Windows NT and Windows XP. This is ensures that your computer can communicate with your Prestige.
Refer to your User’s Guide for detailed IP address configuration for other Windows and Macintosh operating
systems.
1In Windows XP, click Start, Control Panel.
In Windows 2000/NT, click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
2In Windows XP, click Network Connections.
In Windows 2000/NT, click Network and Dial-up Connections.
3Right-click Local Area Connection and then click Properties.
4Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (under the General tab in
Windows XP) and click Properties.
5The Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties screen opens (the
General tab in Windows XP). Select Use the following IP Address
and fill in the IP address (choose one from 192.168.1.2 to
192.168.1.254), Subnet mask (255.255.255.0), and Default gateway
(192.168.1.1) fields.
6Click OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties window.
3 Internet Access Setup
Follow the steps below to configure the Prestige 794M for
Internet access using the Quick Start screen.
1Launch your web browser. Enter “192.168.1.1” as the web
site address. If no login screen displays, refer to Set Up
Your Computer’s IP Address on page 3 to set your computer
IP address.
2Enter “admin” as the username. Enter the login password
(“1234” is the default). Click OK.
3You should now see the web configurator Status screen.
Check the WAN status. If the WAN port status is
synchronized with other network information (such as IP
address and subnet mask), then you can access the Internet.

Otherwise, click Quick Start in the navigation panel.
4In the Quick Start screen, enter the Internet
account information provided by your ISP.
If you are given a username and password, you are
probably using PPPoA or PPPoE Internet
connection.
5Access any web site to test your Internet
connection.
Refer to the User’s Guide for advanced setup
information.

4 Troubleshooting
4.1 Procedure to View a Product’s Certification(s)
1Go to www.zyxel.com.
2Select your product from the drop-down list box on the ZyXEL home page to go to that product's page.
3Select the certification you wish to view from this page.
Problem Corrective Action
None of the
LEDs turn on
when you
turn on the
Prestige.
Make sure that you have the power adaptor connected to the Prestige and plugged in to an
appropriate power source. Use only the included power adaptor for your region.
Make sure that the device(s) connected to the Prestige is turned on. Check all cable connections.
If the LEDs still do not turn on, you may have a hardware problem. In this case, you should contact
your local vendor.
Cannot
access the
Prestige
from the
LAN.
Check the cable connection between the Prestige and your computer or hub. Refer to Section 1.1
on page 2 for details.
Ping the Prestige from a LAN computer. Make sure your computer’s Ethernet card is installed and
functioning properly.
In the computer, click Start, (All) Programs, Accessories and then Command Prompt. In the
Command Prompt window, type "ping" followed by the Prestige’s LAN IP address (192.168.1.1 is
the default) and then press [ENTER]. The Prestige should reply. Otherwise, refer to Section 2 on
page 3.
If you’ve forgotten the Prestige’s password, use the RESET button. Press the button in for more
than six (6) seconds, then release it. It returns the Prestige to the factory defaults (password is
1234, LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 etc.; see your User’s Guide for details).
Cannot
access the
Internet.
Check the Prestige’s connection to the telephone jack with Internet access. The LINE LED should
be on.
Click Quick Start in the navigation panel to verify your settings.
If required, make sure you enter your Internet account username and password exactly as given by
your ISP. The username and password are case-sensitive.
