WhatisWireless LAN?
WirelessLocalArea Network(WLAN) systemsofferagreat numberof
advantagesovertraditionalwired systems.WLANisflexibleand easytosetup
andmanage. Theyarealsomoreeconomicalthan wiredLANsystems.
Usingradiofrequency(RF)technology,WLANtransmitandreceivedatathrough
the air. WLANcombine dataconnectivitywithusermobility. For example, users
canroamfromaconferenceroomtotheirofficewithoutbeingdisconnected from
the LAN.
UsingWLAN, userscanconvenientlyaccess-shared information,and network
administratorscanconfigure andaugmentnetworkswithoutinstalling or moving
networkcables.
WLANtechnologyprovidesuserswithmanyconvenientandcostsavingfeatures:

Infrastructurenetworkinghasthefollowing advantages

Notes on Wireless LANConfiguration
When configuringawireless LAN(WLAN), besure tonotethe followingpoints:
‧Optimizetheperformanceofthe WLANbyensuringthat thedistance
betweenaccesspointsisnottoofar.Inmostbuildings,WLANAdapters
operatewithinarangeof100~ 300feet,depending on the thicknessand
structureofthe walls.
‧Radiowavescanpassthrough wallsandglassbutnotmetal. If thereis
interferenceintransmitting through awall,it maybe thatthe wall has
reinforcingmetalinitsstructure. Installanotheraccesspointtocircumvent
thisproblem.
‧Floorsusuallyhavemetalgirdersandmetalreinforcingstrutsthatinterfere
withWLANtransmission.

Chapter 2 DriverInstallation forWindows
*You havetoinstallyourhardwarefirst beforeyoubegintoinstall
thedrivers.
DriverinstallationforWindowsXP
Followthe stepsbelowtoinstallthe MiniPCIWirelessLANCarddriversforWindows
XP.
1. InsertthedriverCD toyour CD-ROMand turnoff notebook.
2. Releasethescrewsand openthe miniPCIslotcover (It shouldlocatedon the
backofyour notebook)carefully.
3. InserttheMiniPCIWirelessLANCard tominiPCIslotofnotebooksecurely.
(RefertoChapter 2 –Hardwareinstallation.)
4. Turn onyour notebook.
5. After WindowsXPdetectstheminiPCI Wireless LANCard,the Found New
Hardware Wizard windowappears. Select Install thesoftwareautomatically
[Recommended] andinsertthe driverCD-ROMintoCD-ROMdriveand click
Next tocontinue.

6. Click ContinueAnyway tocontinue the installation.
7. The Windowshasfinished installingsoftwareforthe device.Click Finish tofinish
the installation
Then systemwillstarttoinstall Wirelessutilityautomatically.
