Requirements
Make sure you have the following things before you start:
•INTERNET ACCESS: You need a broadband modem or router with
an Internet access already installed in your network.
•VoIP ACCOUNT: If you wish to make phone calls over the Internet,
you need the account information provided by your VoIP service
provider (the company that lets you make phone calls over the
Internet).
•3G account: if you want to access the Internet through a 3G
network. The EMG5324-D10A uses this 3G connection as your
WAN or a backup when the Ethernet WAN connection fails.
•WEB BROWSER: Internet Explorer 6.0 and later versions, with
JavaScript enabled, or Mozilla Firefox 3 and later versions, or Safari
2.0 and later versions. The browser will be used to access the

1. WAN: For Internet access, you need to have a DSL router or modem
already installed in your network. Use an Ethernet cable to connect
this port to an Ethernet jack in the modem.
2. ETHERNET: If you want a wired connection to the EMG5324-D10A,
use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to one of these ports for
initial configuration and/or Internet access.
3. USB 2.0: There are two USB ports on your EMG5324-D10A, one is
at the back panel and one is at the side panel. You can do the
following:
a. Use a USB cable (not provided) to connect a USB device
(version 2.0 or lower) such as USB hard drive or printer for file or
printer sharing.
b. Insert a 3G adapter to access the Internet wirelessly via a 3G
network. The EMG5324-D10A uses this 3G WAN connection as
a backup when the DSL/Ethernet WAN connection fails.
4. PHONE: To make calls over the Internet, use a telephone cable (and
any telephone adaptor provided with your EMG5324-D10A) to
connect a telephone to the PHONE 1 or PHONE 2 port. If you only
have one telephone, you should use PHONE 1.
5. Use the power adaptor provided with your EMG5324-D10A to
connect an appropriate power source to this socket.
6. Push the POWER button to the ON position.
Look at the LEDs (lights) on the front panel of the EMG5324-D10A:
•ThePOWER light blinks during start-up and stays on once the
EMG5324-D10A is ready.

66
• The ETHERNET light turns on if the corresponding ETHERNET port
is properly connected and it blinks when there is traffic. If you do not
connect a computer correctly to any of these ports, the ETHERNET
lights will not turn on.
• The WLAN/WPS light stays on and green when the wireless LAN is
ready. The light will not turn on if the wireless connection is not
activated. It is blue when WPS configured.
• The WAN light stays on if a physical Ethernet connection to the WAN
exists. It blinks when transmitting data.
• The INTERNET light is green when Internet access is available. It
blinks when transmitting data.
• The PHONE lights stay on when your SIP account is registered and
they blink if the receiver is off the hook.
• The USB light(s) turn on when there is a USB device (printer or
memory stick) or a 3G adapter connected to the EMG5324-D10A
and blinks when transmitting data.
If the POWER light does not turn on during start up, try turning the EMG5324-D10A
off, check the connections, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on. If the
problem persists, you may have a hardware problem and you need to contact your
vendor.
Internet Access Setup
If you have Internet access, the WAN and INTERNET lights will be on.
Open your web browser and go to http://www.zyxel.com. You may be
prompted to enter your username and password when attempting to
browse.
• If the WAN light is not on, try turning the EMG5324-D10A off, check
the connections, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on. If the
WAN light is still not on, contact your service provider.
• If the WAN light is on, but the INTERNET light is off, you may need
to enter your Internet access configuration using the Web
Configurator - see page 9.
