The O-ringsealisthemainbarrierbetweenthe wateroutsideandtheairspacewithinthe
camera. Itis aneffectivebarrieronlyifthesealisproperlymaintained.TheO-ringsealshouldbe
inspectedbeforeeverydive.Thefollowinginformation isprovidedyou¡reyourguidanceinusing
andmaintainingtheO-ringseal.
4.5 Maintainingthe O-ringSeal:
IfthemainbodytolidO-ringisnotinstalled,installtheO-ring beforediving.Thisistheonlyuser
serviceableO-ring.Itscareandmaintenanceiscriticaltothewatertightintegrityofthehousing.TheO-ring
shouldbereplacedattheserviceinterval(seesectiononservice).IftheO-ringiscontaminated,ornotalready
installed,inspectgrease andinstalltheO-ringaccordingtothefollowing guidelines.
4.6 Inspection,cleaningandre-instillationofthe O-ring
Tools:
Asoftcottonbudor spongeapplicator,makesure theseare freeofallchemicalsorcontamination
such asloosefibers, andthetubeofsilicone grease suppliedwiththe housing.Noteothertypesofsilicone
greasespecificallyfor usewithunderwater cameraequipmentcanusuallyalsobeused.Itisadvisedtocarry
outthefollowingprocedure onafirmcleanlevelsurface,(e.g.atatable),topreventskiddingespeciallyuseful
tohavewhendivingfromaboat.
When tomaintaintheO-ringseal:
RemovetheO-ringperiodicallyforinspection.Itisnotnecessarytoremove,cleanand
re-install theO-ringaftereverydiveprovidedtheO-ringdidnotbecomecontaminated.Asaruleofthumbset
upthecameraand housing beforeaday sdiving.Ifthehousingisrequiredtobeopenedbetweendivesfor
changing memorycardorre-chargingbatteries,makesuretheoutsideofthehousingisthoroughlytoweled
drybeforeopeningup.After removing thelidandservicingthecamera,replace the lid straightaway,rather
thanleaving itlyingaround.Before replacingthelid,makesurethatnocontaminationsuch asdust,hair,salt,
sand etc.hasfallenontotheO-ringorO-ringrecess,asaprecautionwe recommendtoinspecttheO-ring
everytimethelidisopenedandtocarryoutthemaintenanceifnecessary.
Procedure:
Place the lidonafirmnon-slip levelsurface.
TheO-ring canbe extractedusinganO-ringextractor tool(make sure
the toolasnosharpedges).Alternativelyusethe flatsofthethumbsto
gentlystretchtheO-ringontwofaces(Fig.4)thusmaking asmall loop
protrudingafew mm.Theloopcanthenbegraspedbetweenfinger and
thumb,topulltheO-ringover thelip.
CleantheO-ringrecess(thesquaregroovewheretheO-ringsits)with
acottonbud.
InspecttheO-ring allthewayrounditssurfacefordamagesuchascutstearsorcontamination.Thisshould
bedonevisuallyandalsobyfeelingthesurfacetexturebetweenfingerandthumb.
IFTHEO-RINGISDAMAGEDORSUSPECTED OF BEINGDAMAGED,DISCARDITIMMEDIATELY.
A spareO-ringissuppliedwithyourhousing,orareplacementO-ringcanbeobtainedfrom10 BAR.Ifthe
O-ringiscontaminatedor suspectedofbeingcontaminated,cleanitwithacottoncloththatisfreeofall
chemicalsorcontamination.After cleaninginspecttheO-ringagain.
OncetheO-ringhasbeeninspectedandverifiedfitforuse,applya SMALL amountofSiliconegreasetothe
O-ring.ThesiliconegreasemustbeevenlydistributedroundtheO-ring
Replace theO-ringintothegroove;run afingerroundtheO-ring,tomakesure itissnuglyseatedinthe
