8INJ MANUAL VER. 2 REV. 0
General description
8INJ is a Power over Ethernet injector with integrated surge protection device belonging to the Smart Power Module System
family: a simple system designed to power up to 8 PoE devices where Plug n 'Play is required. Each PoE port works
independently and ensures the highest level of reliability and security.
There are power terminals for each port. Each power supply terminal has its own voltage present LED indicator.
Gigabit data port, galvanically isolated.
Gigabit port with PoE output to power different devices according to the chosen GigaKey. The output voltage of the PoE port
is equal to the input voltage at the power connector of the same port.
On the front there is a “9.KEY” LED that will indicate if the key is inserted correctly.
On the front there is a LED with the port number (1 to 8) which indicates if the port is powered.

8INJ features
Manages any kind of PoE
Each port can be configured to handle a different type of PoE injection map. The configuration of the power pin out is simple
and does not require any IT skills: just insert the specific electronic GigaKey and the port is configured.
Surge protection
Connected devices are protected from electrostatic overvoltage and electric shock. The combination of different types of
arresters maximizes efficiency and reduces the action time.
Galvanic Isolation
Galvanic isolation protects circuits and people from overvoltages between the input side and the output side. This results in
the best protection for your devices and for you.
More power
Up to 3A (145W@48V) per PoE port.
Compact design
The unit can manage up to 8 PoE ports. All functionalities are contained in a single rack unit.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• (*) Although the typical value indicates that 3A current can flow continuously and indefinitely, this value must not be
exceeded.
• (*) The typical current of 3A per port can be reached if the PoE configuration chosen to power a device is via GigaKey:
GS-K-AB or GS-K-9.S because both use all four pairs of conductors for power supply. If instead we use the other
GigaKeys: GS-K-B or GS-K-BR, the typical current per port will be 1.5A2.

8INJ MANUAL VER. 2 REV. 0
Installation
The 8INJ is designed for installation in a 19 "rack cabinet, however the fixing flaps can be rotated 90 ° for wall mounting.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Use only the parts supplied with the device for fixing the fins; the use of different parts can cause
irreparable damage to the device.
Before turning on the device it is advisable to connect the grounding terminal, fix the chassis to the cabinet or to the wall,
insert the chosen GigaKey keys and connect the signal cables, in particular:
• Wire the power supply.
• Connect the ethernet cables.
• Connect the power supply pins of the power supply to each port, paying attention to the polarity adopted.
• Connect the power supply to the electricity.
These cables are not supplied with the 8INJ.
Typical configuration
A typical configuration that can be obtained with this device is to combine it with NCore Lite, an Active Power Station 9dot
with 8 configurable power outputs for different voltages that allows modular power supply with ACDC or DCDC and has a
battery charger.
By powering an 8INJ with NCore Lite we can improve the benefits of both devices by remotely managing each output port and
thus having remote and indirect control over the input power of the 8INJ's PoE ports. That is, by controlling the NCore Lite
solution will allow you to control 8INJ ports as well.
This configuration transforms a PoE injector device into a remotely manageable integral power solution.

Physical interface
LED coding
Below are the meanings of the LEDs:
LED Color Description
9.KEY Fixed green GigaKey inserted correctly
Numero di porta (da 1 a 8)
Fixed green Power supply on the door
Table 1 – LEDs indications
Power input
The power input technical information is detailed below:
Input voltage Self-consumption Max load
Input 10 – 60V DC < 0.25W per port 180W
Table 2 - voltage range, self-consumption and maximum input load
IMPORTANT NOTE: Each power connector is galvanically isolated from the others.
Special case -48V
The power input does not allow polarity inversion. If you have a voltage of -48V (as often happens in some telecommunications
systems), it is sufficient to connect the 0V cable to the positive (+) terminal and the -48V to the negative (-) terminal according
to the indications of the silkscreen.
Output power
The main function of the PoE injector of this device is to allow the powering of other equipment on the network. 8INJ PoE
injector are passive injectors.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unlike active PoE, passive PoE does not use any protocol to determine the type of device to be powered;
it simply applies a type of voltage to its port without identifying which type of PoE standard or supply voltage the connected
load is compatible with. Using an unsuitable voltage and / or wrong pin out can cause irreparable damage to the powered
device.
It is possible to power a wide range of devices that accept different voltages as this device essentially replicates the voltage
from the power terminals to the PoE output ports without applying any conversion.
This offers great versatility when it comes to connecting several PoE devices in the same infrastructure as each port can be
powered with a different voltage than the rest.
In addition to supporting different voltages, the 8INJ has the ability to select the pin out of the PoE output ports, with the
GigaKey, thus allowing it to power a wide range of devices on the market.
To find out if your PoE device can be powered via 8INJ, just check the pin out that the GigaKeys allow you to select and see if
it matches the input pin out of your equipment3.
GigaKey
This is the generic name that identifies the output pin out selection keys of each PoE port.
3
See the “GigaKey” section

12
8INJ MANUAL VER. 2 REV. 0
The GigaKey has been designed to avoid manipulating the microswitches or jumpers which usually satisfy this function but
are subject to errors. This simplifies the selection, which can be done simply by inserting the chosen key into the slot
corresponding to the PoE port.
If desired, you can select a different key for each PoE port on the same unit.
At the moment 4 different GigaKeys have been developed that allow a wide range of compatibility between the devices on the
market. They are easy to identify through their code and different colors.

(*) These are just some of the devices that can be powered by 8INJ. The list is very long, if you want to know if your equipment can be connected to 8INJ, please do
not hesitate to contact us.
Pay attention to the direction of insertion of the GigaKeys in the slots: the correct position is with the screen printing facing
upwards.
ATTENTION: in case of incorrect insertion of the GigaKey, the device will still supply power to the port, but with an
unpredictable pinout. This can cause damage to connected devices.
Special case -48V
There are installations that require -48V power supply via the network, this option is perfectly feasible with 8INJ. We simply
have to connect -48V to the 8INJ
4
input and then choose the correct GigaKey in order to get -48V on the PoE ports based on
the input pin out of the devices we want to connect.
Protection
On each port there are double phase surge arresters TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) and GDT (Gas Discharge Tube).
