GENERAL
The installation must conform to these instructions, the local code
authorityhavingjurisdiction,andtherequirementsofthepowercompany.
Inthe absence of coderequirementsfollow NFPA-70(current edition),

WATER HEATERLOCATION
Aminimum clearance of 4" must be allowed for access to replaceable
partssuch as the thermostats, drain valve and relief valve.
Adequateclearance for servicing this appliance should be considered
beforeinstallation, such as changing theanodes,etc.
The water heater should be located as close to or centralized to the
waterpipingsystem aspossible. The waterheatershould belocated in
anarea not subject to freezing temperatures.
CAUTION
THEHEATERSHOULDBELOCATEDINANAREAWHERELEAKAGEOF
THETANKORCONNECTIONSWILLNOTRESULTINDAMAGETOTHE
AREAADJACENTTOTHEHEATERORTOLOWERFLOORSOFTHE
STRUCTURE. Whensuchlocationscannot beavoided,asuitabledrain
pan piped to an adequate drain should be installed under the heater.
Suchpans shouldhave aminimum lengthandwidth ofat least2 inches
greaterthanthediameteroftheheaterandshouldbepipedtoanadequate
drain. Drain pans suitable for these heaters are available from your
distributor or Water Products Company,5621 W. 115th Street, Alsip,IL
60803, or at www.hotwater.com/parts.
Under no circumstances is the manufacturer to be held liable for any
waterdamage in connection with this water heater.
HEATERSWITHOUTDRAINVALVES:
For convenience of service, it is recommended that a drain valve be
installed in the inlet piping, as close to the heater as possible, see
page2.

RATING)THATWILLBEADEQUATEFORYOURSIZEHEATER.
Check the metal tag on the relief valve and compare it to the heater’s
ratingplate. The pressureratingof thereliefvalve mustnotexceed the
workingpressure shownon the ratingplate oftheheater andthehourly
Bturated temperaturesteam discharge capacityof thereliefvalve shall
notbelessthantheinputratingoftheheater. (Wattsx 3.415 = Btu/hr.
rate) NOVALVEISTOBEPLACEDBETWEENTHERELIEFVALVEAND
TANK. DONOTPLUGTHERELIEFVALVE.
Thedrainlineconnectedtothisvalvemustnotcontainareducingcoupling
orotherrestrictionand shouldterminate neara suitabledrain toprevent
waterdamage duringvalveoperation. Discharge line shallbe installed
toallowcompletedrainageofboththevalveandline. DONOTTHREAD,
PLUGORCAPTHEENDOFTHEDRAINLINE.
CLOSED WATER SYSTEM
A closed system will exist if a back-flow preventer (check valve),
pressurereducingvalve,orothersimilardeviceisinstalledinthecold
water line between the water heater and the street main (or well).
Excessivepressuremaydevelopdue tothethermalexpansionofheated
watercausingprematuretankfailureorintermittentreliefvalveoperation.
Thistype offailure isnot coveredbythe limitedwarranty. Anexpansion
tank or device may be necessary in the cold water supply to alleviate
thissituation, seepage2. Contact thelocal plumbing authority.

1. Removepipe insulationfrom carton.
2. Fitpipe insulationovertheincomingcold waterlineandthehot water
line. Makesure thattheinsulation isagainsttop coverofthe heater.
ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS
The heater internal wiring conforms with one of the diagrams on
page4. The heaterdata plateidentifies this wiringby designationin the
spacemarkedCIRCUIT. Thevoltageandwattageratingsarealsoshown
onthe plate.
REMOVINGPANELSFROMTABLETOPMODELS
The drain valve, electrical components and wiring leads are situated
behindthe two front covers (See page 2):
DANGER
1. Turn offthe heater electrical supply.
2. For access to the thermostatandelementsremove the two screws
on the tall front cover located on the right side facing the unit, then
remove cover. Then open the flap of installation to expose the
thermostatandelement.
3. For access to the drain valve remove the one screw in the smaller
accessdoor located in the bottom left hand side of the front panel.
4. To removethe top panelgraspthe back splashand pull towardsthe
front sliding it toward you.
