Troubleshooting
Before you call for service. . . . . .
A quick check of the Operating Instructions in this manual may prevent an
unnecessary service call. Before calling your authorized Access
Industries' dealer for service, refer to the following checklist . . .
Ifliftwillnotoperate:
Check for obstructions in the path of the lift.
Check that the swivel seat is in the locked, riding position.
Replace the 9V batteries in the wireless remote controls if necessary.
(make sure the + and - are installed correctly)
If lift will still not operate, contact your local authorized dealer for immediate
service. If your lift needs servicing, use only original replacement parts
and hardware to maintain quality and performance.
Information on Battery Operated Lifts Only:
If the Lift Bleeps After Stopping:
When the lift stops and the 115 VAC power is not connected, the bleeper
will sound for 20 seconds and stop, the control board will then go into
standby mode. Make sure the lift's power cord is plugged into the 115
VAC outlet or check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker at the main
circuit box.
If the Lift Bleeps While Running:
Battery capacity is 30% or less. This may have been caused by:
1) Batteries have not been charged.
2) Heavy use of the lift.
3) The batteries are not holding their charge due to age.
Contact your authorized dealer for service.
If the Lift Runs at Half Speed
Battery capacity is 10% or less. This may have been caused by the
reasons above.
Contact your authorized dealer for service.

new horizons of independent living!
Your lift has been manufactured with the same precision and care that
has been a tradition at Access Industries for more than 50 years. You can
be proud of the fact that you join thousands of others who have turned to us
for the ideal solution to their accessibility challenges.
As you will soon discover, your lift is easy to operate and has been
designed for years of dependable operation. However, as with all
electrical and mechanical equipment, proper operation and periodic
maintenance is required.
This manual has been prepared to provide clear and concise
operating and maintenance instructions. We urge you to read and adhere
to the important guidelines provided in this manual before you attempt to
operate your lift.
Proper and safe operation of your stairway lift requires proper installa-
tion, maintenance and service. Only an authorized Access Industries'
dealer should install, maintain, service or repair your new stairway lift. If
you need information regarding the local dealer in your area, please call
800-829-9760.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential in keeping your Excel stairway lift in
proper operating condition. Please remember, you, as the owner of this
equipment, are responsible for making sure maintenance and upkeep is
performed on a regularly scheduled basis.
We strongly urge you to protect your investment by having only an autho-
rized Access Industries' dealer perform all required maintenance, service
and repair work. They are trained technicians, qualified to do the job.
To assure proper operating condition of your lift, the items listed below
should be inspected and/or serviced every six (6) months by your dealer.
Inspect trailing cable for wear. The cable must be replaced if showing
signs of wear.
Tighten all fastening anchors.
Verify proper operation of the footrest obstruction sensor.
Lubricatethegearrack
insidethetrackwiththelubricant
providedwith
the lift.
Clean and lubricate the track where the wheels make contact with the
lubricant provided with the lift.
• Do not attempt to service the lift yourself. Contact your local authorized
Access Industries' dealer.
• Do complete and mail in your warranty card or register at
www.accessind.com/register
• Do show a family member and/or neighbor how to operate the lift in the
event you would need assistance.
• Do keep your lift and track clean and free of dirt.
• Do have your dealer perform general maintenance and lubrication on
your lift to keep it looking and operating like new.
• Do make sure the dealer has explained proper operation and
maintenance procedures.
• Do keep the lift connected to AC power at all times to charge the
batteries,if battery operated.

Operation and Description of Features
Learn the location and function of all features before using your Excel
stairway lift. The dealer should explain the features and operating
instructions once the lift is installed. If the dealer did not explain this to
you, please contact them.
Operating Controls: There is a seat control switch located underneath
the seat and two wireless remote controls.
To operate the lift, press and hold the switch on the unit control or one of
the buttons on a remote control (red is UP and green is DOWN). When a
button or switch is pressed, the lift will bleep and begin to move after a half
second delay.
The lift automatically stops at the ends of the track and it can be stopped at
anytime by releasing the switch or button.
Folding Armrests: The armrests can be folded up and out of the way
when the lift is not in use. The armrests must be in the down position when
riding the lift.

KeepingYour Lift Trouble Free
Your Excel stairway lift will provide years of trouble free service if you
follow these helpful hints:
• Do not exceed the lifting capacity of 300 pounds (135kg).
• Do not operate the lift outdoors. The lift is designed for indoor use only.
• Do not operate the lift with a child or pet in your lap. The lift is designed
for one person only.
• Do not use an extension cord to supply power to your lift. The lift's
power cord should be connected directly to the power source.
• Do not allow weight on seat to be "off center".
• Do not allow children to play on the lift.
• Do not stand up on the lift while operating.
• Do not operate the lift if it has been damaged in any manner.

Folding Footrest: The footrest can be folded up and out of the way when
the lift is not in use. The footrest must be in the down position when riding
the lift. Sensors are provided in the footrest to detect obstructions. When
an obstruction is encountered, the lift will stop. The direction of the lift may
be reversed so the obstruction can be removed.
Track Obstruction Sensors: Sensors on the unit detect obstructions and
stops the lift when an obstruction is encountered. The same sensor is
used to automatically stop the lift at each end of the track.
Swivel Seat Handle: Swivel seat handles, provided on both sides of the
seat, allow the seat to be swiveled 60° or 90° at the upper landing.
Seat Belt: Seat belt must be securely fastened around waist or chest
before operating the lift. (not shown)
Battery Operation: If equipped, the lift is operated from two 12 volt
batteries and should be connected to AC power to charge the batteries at
all times.
Battery Disconnect Switch: If equipped, this switch (on top of the
chassis) removes battery power to the lift. The batteries will not charge
when this switch is turned off. (not shown)
