Unpacking: Thank you for purchasing the Dotz Panel 2.4 by ADJ Products, LLC. Every Dotz Panel 2.4
has been thoroughly tested and has been shipped in perfect operating condition. Carefully check the
shipping carton for damage that may have occurred during shipping. If the carton appears to be dam-
aged, carefully inspect your xture for any damage and be sure all accessories necessary to operate
the unit has arrived intact. In the case damage has been found or parts are missing, please contact our
toll free customer support number for further instructions. Do not return this unit to your dealer without

Introduction: The Dotz Panel 2.4 is part of ADJ’s continuing pursuit for creating high quality aord-
able intelligent xtures. The Dotz Panel 2.4 is a high performance, DMX intelligent, LED xture. This
xture is a great piece for retail stores, displays, mood, architectural, interior and exterior decoration,
and clubs. This unit can be used as a stand alone unit, or in a Primary/Secondary conguration. The
unit can also be controlled via DMX controller. This xture is suitable for theaters, studios, retail stores,
and other similar locations.

To optimize the performance of this product, please read these operating instructions carefully to
familiarize yourself with the basic operations of this unit. These instructions contain important safety
information regarding the use and maintenance of this unit. Please keep this manual with the unit for
future reference.

Dotz Panel 2.4 Safety Precautions
• To reduce the risk of electrical shock or fire, do not expose this unit rain or moisture
• Do not spill water or other liquids into or on to your unit.
• Be sure that the local power outlet match that of the required volt- age for your unit.
• Do not attempt to operate this unit if the power cord has been frayed or broken. Do not attempt
to remove or break off the ground prong from the electrical cord. This prong is used to reduce the
risk of electrical shock and fire in case of an internal short.
• Disconnect from main power before making any type of connection.
• Do not remove the cover under any conditions. There are no user serviceable parts inside.
• Never operate this unit when it’s cover is removed.
• Never plug this unit in to a dimmer pack
• Always be sure to mount this unit in an area that will allow proper ventilation. Allow about 6”
(15cm) between this device and a wall.
• Do not attempt to operate this unit, if it becomes damaged.
• This unit is intended for indoor use only, use of this product out` doors voids all warranties.
• During long periods of non-use, disconnect the unit’s main power.
• Always mount this unit in safe and stable matter.
• Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by
items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to the point they exit from the unit.
• Cleaning -The fixture should be cleaned only as recommended by t he manufacturer. See page 21
for cleaning details.
• Heat -The appliance should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers,
stoves, or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
• The fixture should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
1. The power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged.
2. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the appliance.
3. The appliance has been exposed to rain or water.
4. The appliance does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in perfor-
mance.

Power Supply: The ADJ Dotz Panel 2.4 contains an automatic voltage switch, which will auto sense
the voltage when it is plugged into the power source. With this switch there is no need to worry
about the correct power voltage, this unit can be plugged in anywhere. Always use the power cable
that was included with the unit.
DMX-512: DMX is short for Digital Multiplex. This is a universal protocol used by most lighting and
controller manufacturers as a form of communication between intelligent xtures and controllers. A
DMX controller sends DMX data instructions from the controller to the xture. DMX data is sent as
serial data that travels from xture to xture via the DATA “IN” and DATA “OUT” XLR terminals locat-
ed on all DMX xtures (most controllers only have a DATA “OUT” terminal).
DMX Linking: DMX is a language allowing all makes and models of dierent manufactures to be
linked together and operate from a single controller, as long as all xtures and the controller are DMX
compliant. To ensure proper DMX data transmission, when using several DMX xtures try to use
the shortest cable path possible. The order in which xtures are connected in a DMX line does not
inuence the DMX addressing. For example; a xture assigned a DMX address of 1 may be placed
anywhere in a DMX line, at the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in the middle. When a xture is
assigned a DMX address of 1, the DMX controller knows to send DATA assigned to address 1 to that
unit, no matter where it is located in the DMX chain.
Data Cable (DMX Cable) Requirements (For DMX Operation): The Dotz Panel 2.4 can be con-
trolled via DMX-512 protocol. The Dotz Panel 2.4 has 5 DMX Channel Modes. The DMX address is
set on the rear panel of the Dotz Panel 2.4. Your unit and your DMX controller require an approved
DMX-512 110 Ohm Data cable for data input and data output (Figure 1). We recommend Accu-Cable
DMX cables. If you are making your own cables, be sure to use standard 110-120 Ohm shielded ca-
ble (This cable may be purchased at almost all professional sound and lighting stores). Your cables
should be made with a male and female XLR connector on either end of the cable. Also remember
that DMX cable must be daisy chained and cannot be split.

Notice: Be sure to follow gures two and three when making your own cables. Do not use the
ground lug on the XLR connector. Do not connect the cable’s shield conductor to the ground lug
or allow the shield conductor to come in contact with the XLR cable’s outer casing. Grounding the
shield could cause a short circuit and erratic behavior.
Special Note: Line Termination. When longer runs of cable are used, you may need to use a termi-
nator on the last unit to avoid erratic behavior. A terminator is a 110-120 ohm 1/4 watt resistor which
is connected between pins 2 and 3 of a male XLR connector (DATA+ and DATA-). This unit is inserted
in the female XLR connector of the last unit in your daisy chain to terminate the line. Using a cable
terminator (ADJ part number Z-DMX/T) will decrease the chances of erratic behavior.
5-Pin XLR DMX Connectors. This unit use 5-pin DMX-512 data cables for DATA transmission. 5-pin
DMX xtures may be implemented in a 3-pin DMX line. When inserting standard 5-pin data cables in
to a 3-pin line, a cable adaptor must be used. These adaptors are readily available at most electron-
ics stores. The chart below details a proper cable conversion.

Dotz Panel 2.4 System Menu
The LCD backlight will shut o after 30 seconds. To reactive the backlighting, press and hold
the MODE button for 5 seconds.
DMX Mode - Set the DMX Address and DMX Channel Mode.
1. Press the MENU button until “DMX Mode” and underneath “ADDR: XXX” and “CH:XX” is dis-
played, press ENTER.
2. “XXX” will now begin to ash, use the UP and DOWN buttons to nd your desired DMX address,
then press ENTER.
3. “XX” will now begin to ash, use the UP and DOWN buttons to nd your desired DMX Channel
mode, then press ENTER.
Secondary Mode - This will let you set your unit as a secondary unit in a primary/secondary
conguration.
1. Press the MENU button until “Secondry Mode” is displayed.
2. Your unit will now follow the behavior of the Primary unit.
Sound Mode - In this mode the unit will run in sound active mode.
1. Press the MENU button until “Sound Mode” is displayed.
2. Press ENTER to adjust your sound sensitivity. When you press ENTER the number next to “Sens”
will begin to ash, use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the sound sensitivity. Once you found
your desired sensitivity press ENTER to conrm.
3. When you press ENTER the number next to “FQN” will begin to ash, use the UP and DOWN
buttons to adjust the amount of times you would like the program to cycle before changing to the
next program. Press ENTER to conrm.
Auto Run.
1. Press the MENU button until “Auto Run” is displayed, and “FQN:XX” will be displayed under-
neath. “XX” representing the number displayed.
2. Press ENTER and the number will begin to ash, use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the
amount of times you would like the program to cycle before changing to the next program. Press
ENTER to conrm.
Built-In Programs - See the chart for Built-In Programs at the beginning of this section for de-
tailed descriptions of the available programs.
1. Press the MENU button until one of the Programs shown in the Built-In Program table is dis-
played. The displayed program depends on the last program you had set the unit to.
2. Press ENTER to move through the various adjustments of each program, and use the UP and
DOWN button to make adjustments.
Dim Curve - This setting will let you select your desired dimming curve.
1. Press the MENU button until “Dim Curve” is displayed, press ENTER.
2. 1 of 5 dimming curve settings will be displayed: Standard, Stage, TV, Architectural, or Theatre.
Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select your desired dimming curve and press ENTER to con-
rm.

Pixel Flip - In this mode you adjust the unit so that the LEDs in DMX mode will illuminate at
your desired starting point.
1. Press the MENU button until “Pixel Flip” is displayed, press ENTER.
2. Either “OFF” or “ON”, will be displayed. “ON” will have the unit light up bottom right to left. “OFF”
will have the unit light up top left to right. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to nd your desired set-
ting, and press ENTER.
NO DMX - This mode is used to dene how the xture will behave in the event that DMX signal
is lost or interrupted.
1. Press the MENU button until “NO DMX” is displayed, and either “Sound”, “Auto”, “Black”, or
“Hold” will be displayed beneath.
2. Press ENTER and the bottom choice will begin to ash. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to choose
an operating mode you would like the unit to start up in when power is applied or the DMX signal
is lost.
• Sound - If the DMX signal is lost or power is applied, the unit will automatically go into
sound active mode.
• Auto - If the DMX signal is lost or power is applied, the unit will automatically go into Auto
Run Mode.
• Black (Blackout) - If the DMX signal is lost or power is applied, the unit will automatically go
into stand by mode.
• Hold - If the DMX signal is lost the xture will stay in the last DMX setting. If power is applied
and this mode is set, the unit will automatically go into the last DMX set up.
3. Press ENTER to conrm your desired set up.
Personality - This will let you set your unit as a Primary in a primary/secondary conguration.
1. Press the MENU button until “Personality” is displayed. Your unit will now be the Primary unit in a
Primary-Secondary conguration.

Universal DMX Control: This function allows you to use a Elation® universal DMX-512 controller to
control the chases and patterns, dimmer and strobe. A DMX controller allows you to create unique
programs tailored to your individual needs. The Dotz Panel 2.4 has 5 DMX channel modes; a 3
Channel Mode, 6 Channel Mode, 8 Channel Mode, 24 Channel Mode, & 29 Channel Mode. See the
System Menu section of this manual for detailed instructions regarding how to select your desired
channel mode.
1. This function will allow you to control each individual xture’s traits with a standard DMX 512
controller such as the Elation® Show Designer™ or the Elation® DMX Operator.™
2. To run your xture in DMX mode, follow directions shown in the System Menu section of this
manual to set your DMX address and DMX Channel mode.
3. Plug in the xture via the XLR connections to any standard DMX controller.
4. For longer cable runs (more than a 100 feet) use a terminator on the last xture.

Dotz Panel 2.4 Primary-Secondary Configuration
Primary-Secondary Operation: This function will allow you to link up to 16 units together and oper-
ate without a controller. The units will be sound activated. In Primary-Secondary operation one unit
will act as the controlling unit and the others will react to the controlling units programs. Any unit can
act as a Primary or as a Secondary.
1. Using approved DMX data cables, daisy chain your units together via the XLR connector on the
rear of the units. Remember the Male XLR connector is the input and the Female XLR connec-
tor is the output. The rst unit in the chain (primary) will use the female XLR connector only, while
the last unit in the chain will use the male XLR connector only. For longer cable runs, it is strongly
recommended to use a teminator on the last xture.
2. On the Primary unit, designate the unit as a “Primary” unit following the instructions shown in the
System Menu section of this manual. Then set your desired operating mode.
3. On the Secondary units press the MODE button until “Secondary Mode” is displayed.
4. The Secondary units will now follow the Primary unit.

When Channel 25 is being used between the values of 136-239, Channel 26 will control the speed of
the programs.
When Channel 25 is being used between the values of 240-255, Channel 26 will control the sound
sensitivity.

Dotz Panel 2.4 Installation
When installing the unit, the trussing or area of installation must be able to hold 10 times the weight
of the xture and all accessories without any deformation. The unit must be secured with a second-
ary safety attachment, e.g. an appropriately rated safety cable. Never stand directly below the unit
when mounting, removing, or servicing the unit.
Overhead mounting requires extensive experience, including calculating working load limits, installa-
tion material being used, and perodic safety inspection of all installation materials and the unit itself.
If you lack these qualications, do not attempt to perform the installation yourself.
The installation should be checked by a skilled person once a year.
The Dotz Panel 2.4 is fully operational in two dierent mounting positions: hanging upside-down
from a ceiling or set on a at level surface. To avoid internal damage to the unit, never mount the
unit on its side. Be sure this xture is kept at least 0.5m away from any ammable materials (deco-
ration etc.). Always use and install the supplied safety cable as a safety measure to prevent acci-
dental damage and/or injury in the event the clamp fails. Never use the carrying handles for second-
ary attachment.
Dotz Panel 2.4 Power Cord Daisy Chain
With this feature you can connect multiple xtures to one another using the IEC input and output
sockets.
The maximum number of xtures that can be connected in this way is as follows:
• 120V power: 8 xtures maximum
• 230V power: 17 xtures maximum
After these maximum values are exceeded, a new power outlet must be used for additional xtures.
All connected xtures must be of the same model type. DO NOT mix xture model types.
