Your ADC®A tempTM 424 Digital Tympanic Thermometer is an automatic measuring evice that
offers the A vantages of Multiple Use (Wi e Range Measurement). The A tempTM 424 offers a wi e
range measurement feature ranging from 89.6°F ~ 108°F (32°C ~ 42.2°C); the pro uct can be use
as an ear thermometer to measure bo y temperature.

ust-free, ry area at a temperature between 10° - 40° (50°F - 104°F).
• If the instrument is not going to be use for a prolonge perio the battery shoul be remove .
• Ensure that chil ren o not use the instrument unsupervise ; some parts are small enough to be
swallowe .
• Do not use the thermometer if there are signs of amage on the probe or on the
instrument itself. If amage , o not attempt to repair the instrument!
• Earwax in the ear canal may cause a lower temperature rea ing. Make sure subject's ear canal is
clean to ensure an accurate rea ing. Use caution when cleaning ears.
• The ADC®424 Digital Ear Thermometer consists of high quality precision parts. Protect it from
severe impact an shock. Keep the unit in its storage case when not in use.

4. How to M asur Body T mp ratur
The ADC®424 Digital Ear Thermometer measures the heat ra iate from the ear rum an the sur-
roun ing tissue. This energy is collecte through the lens an converte to a temperature value. The
measure rea ing obtaine irectly from the ear rum (Tympanic Membrane) can ensure the most
accurate bo y temperature. Measurements taken from the surroun ing tissue of the ear canal generate
lower rea ings an may result in mis iagnosis of a fever.
To avoid an inaccurat m asur m nt:
• Use ONLY ADC®probe covers, as this unit is calibrate to work with probe covers.
• Straighten the ear canal by gently pulling the mi le of the ear back an up. This ensures mea-
surement of heat from the ear rum. (Please note: Pull outer ear out for newborns - age 1)
• Place the probe firmly into the ear canal. Press the Start button an keep the probe in the ear until
the thermometer beeps to in icate completion of the measurement.

5. Mientras hale e la oreja, inserte correctamente el extremo e me ición en el canal au itivo

1. Press the ON/OFF button. The isplay is activate to show all
symbols for 2 secon s. (Fig. 1)
2. The last measurement rea ing will be shown on the isplay
automatically for 3 secon s with the “M“ symbol visible. (Fig. 2)
3. A beep soun is hear . The °C or °F symbol will flash. The
thermometer is rea y to measure. (Fig. 3)
4. Straighten the ear canal by pulling the outer
ear up an back to give a clear view of
the ear rum.
• Chil ren ages 1 year to a ult:
- Pull the ear up an back. (Fig. 4)
(Caution: Many pe iatricians suggest use of ear
thermometers for chil ren ol er than 6 months.)
• For chil ren un er 1 year:
- Pull the ear straight back (Fig. 5)
5. While pulling the outer ear, insert the probe snugly into
the ear canal an press the "START” button. Release it, when
you hear a beep soun . A beep in icates measurement
is complete. (Fig. 6)
6. Remove the thermometer from the ear. The isplay shows the
measure temperature.
7. Replace the probe cover after each measurement. To o this, follow the
instructions in section 6, (How to apply a new probe cover).
8. In or er to assure accurate rea ings, please wait at least 30 secon s after
3-5 continuous measurements.

obteni a irectamente el tímpano (Membrana timpánica) asegura la me ición e la temperatura el cuerpo
e la manera más exacta posible. Las me iciones realiza as en los teji os
circun antes el con ucto au itivo an lugar a valores más bajos que pue en con ucir al iagnóstico
erróneo e inexistencia e fiebre.
Cómo vitar una m dición incorr cta:
• Primero coloque el capuchón. La uni a está calibra a para lecturas precisas con los cupuchones.
• Tire e la zona me ia e la oreja hacia arriba y para atrás, para que el con ucto au itivo que e en línea recta.
• Intro uzca firmemente el extremo e me ición en el con ucto au itivo, presione el botón e inicio
(Start) y no retire el termómetro el con ucto au itivo hasta que el termómetro emita un bip in icativo e
que la me ición ha finaliza o.

NOTE:
• For an infant, it is best to have the chil laying flat with hea si eways so the ear is facing
towar s you.
For an ol er chil or a ult, it is best to stan behin an slightly to the si e of the patient.
• Always take measurements in the same ear since temperature rea ings may be ifferent from the
right an left ear.
• Wait a few minutes before taking ear temperature after sleeping.
• It is recommen e that three temperatures in the same ear be taken an the highest one taken as
the rea ing. This is very important with:
1) Newborn infants in the first 100 ays.
2) Chil ren un er three years of age with a compromise immune system an for whom the presence
or absence of fever is critical.
3) When the user is learning how to use the IR thermometer for the first time until he/she has
familiarize himself/herself with the instrument an obtains consistent rea ings.

8. Changing from Fahr nh it to C lsius and vic -v rsa
The ADC®Digital 424 Thermometer can isplay temperature measurements in either Fahrenheit or
Celsius. To switch the isplay between °F an °C, turn the unit off. Press an hol the Start button

Use an alcohol swab or cotton swab moistene with alco-
hol (70% Isopropyl) to clean the thermometer casing an
the measuring probe. Ensure that no liqui enters the inte-
rior of the thermometer.

The ADC®Digital 424 Ear Thermometer is
supplie with one lithium battery, type CR2032.
Replace with a new CR2032 battery when the
low battery symbol appears on the isplay.
Use a screw river to loosen the screw from
battery cover. Remove the battery cover an
replace battery. Do not overtighten screw when
replacing the cover.
