Advantech warrants to you, the original purchaser, that each of its
products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one
year from the date of purchase.
This warranty does not apply to any products which have been
repaired or altered by persons other than repair personnel authorized
by Advantech, or which have been subject to misuse, abuse, accident
or improper installation. Advantech assumes no liability under the
terms of this warranty as a consequence of such events.
Because of Advantech’s high quality-control standards and rigorous
testing, most of our customers never need to use our repair service. If
an Advantech product is defective, it will be repaired or replaced at no
charge during the warranty period. For out-of-warranty repairs, you
will be billed according to the cost of replacement materials, service
time and freight. Please consult your dealer for more details.
If you think you have a defective product, follow these steps:
1. Collect all the information about the problem encountered. (For
example, CPU speed, Advantech products used, other hardware
and software used, etc.) Note anything abnormal and list any on-
screen messages you get when the problem occurs.
2. Call your dealer and describe the problem. Please have your
manual, product, and any helpful information readily available.
3. If your product is diagnosed as defective, obtain an RMA (return
merchandize authorization) number from your dealer. This allows us
to process your return more quickly.
4. Carefully pack the defective product, a fully-completed Repair and
Replacement Order Card and a photocopy proof of purchase date
(such as your sales receipt) in a shippable container. A product
returned without proof of the purchase date is not eligible for
warranty service.
5. Write the RMA number visibly on the outside of the package and
ship it prepaid to your dealer.

1.1 Introduction
Dual Intel Pentium III Processors
The MIC-3389 can be configured with dual or single Pentium®III
processors. Dual processor configuration can support symmetric
multiprocessing operations under supporting operation system
software. With the special-designed heat sink, the MIC-3389 can
support the Pentium®III processors with up to 1 GHz CPU speed.
Up to 2 GB SDRAM with Registered ECC
Designed with the ServerWorks ServerSet III LE chipset, the MIC-
3389 memory system supports the most economical SDRAM technol-
ogy and can be configured with up to 2 GB of registered Error
Correcting Code (ECC) DIMMs with the 100/133 MHz front-side
bus.
64-bit CompactPCITM Interface
The MIC-3389 supports a 64-bit PCI interface on the physical
CompactPCITM connectors J1 and J2. Through the Intel®21154 PCI-
to-PCI bridge, the MIC-3389 is applicable up to 8-slot CompactPCI
enclosures can drive up to seven bus master PCI slots.
On-board VGA/Dual LAN/Dual USB/Serial Ports
The MIC-3389 offers complete all the functions of an industrial
computer with the rugged Eurocard form factor, such as the on-board
VGA interface, dual 10/100 Mbps fast Ethernet ports, dual RS-232
serial ports, dual USB, and one PS/2 keyboard/mouse connector. All
these I/O ports can be routed on either the front or the rear I/O panel
depending on applications. For easy monitor and control, the MIC-
3389 front panel also has LEDs for the power status and HDD
operation, as well as a reset button.

1.5 Jumpers
1.5.1 Jumper Locations
The MIC-3389 provides jumpers for configuring your board for
specific applications other than the default settings.
Table 1-1 lists the jumper functions. Figure 1-2 illustrates the jumper
locations.

1.5.2 PVIO Selection (JP2)
The jumper JP2 is used to select the PCI bus reference voltage before
the PCI-to-PCI bridge (PVIO). The MIC 3389 allows PVIO to be set to
either 5V or 3.3V. The default is configured as 3.3V. If the different
voltage is needed, please refer to the following table for changing the
PVIO voltage.

1.5.3 Clear CMOS (JP3)
This jumper is used to erase CMOS data and reset system BIOS
information. Follow the procedures below to clear the CMOS.
1. Turn off the system.
2. Close jumper JP3 (2-3) for ablut 3 seconds.
3. Close jumper JP3 (1-2)
4. Turn on the system. The BIOS is reset to its default setting.

The MIC-3389 provides the on-board hardware monitor function.
From the CMOS, users can read the MIC-3389’s dual CPU status (e.g.
the CPU voltages, temperatures and fan speeds), the battery voltage,
and the on-board +3.3 V, +5 V and +12 V voltages. The MIC-3389
default setting is to enable the on-board hardware monitor function.
Should an users wants to disable it, and to enable an external alarm
system, please refer to the following table for the correct jumper settings.

Note: When the on-board hardware monitor is enabled, the
external alarm has to be disabled at the same time.
When the external alarm is enabled, the on-board
hardware monitor has to be disabled, too.
1.6 Connectors
On-board connectors link to external devices such as hard disk drives,
keyboards, or floppy disk devices, etc. Table 1-5 lists the function of
each connector, and Figures 1-2 and 1-3 illustrate each connector
location. Chapter 2 gives instructions for connecting external devices
to your MIC-3389.
